Great to hear you are starting to post new videos. I am sure many of us long time followers, have reached the limits of GB and have downloaded Logic, and are in need of the guidance you have given in GB. Yes, there is help videos on CZcams, but not with your ablilty or approach, I find missing. Please, considered BG, LPX, and Beyond, or the like. Thank you for help these past years, Russ

I switched a couple months ago. Mostly it wasn't too hard. Taking an old GarageBand mix and putting it into Logic helped a bunch. You can see what things GarageBand does with send and aux behind the scenes . I found getting the reverb I want easier in Logic after I saw how the send and Aux worked. One thing that puzzled me for awhile was when you hook your audio input device in at the top of the Chanel strip above EQ and setting there's a rectangle box with a circle box beside it. that needs to be set all the way clockwise or you don't get a recordable signal. I was pulling hair for awhile.
I find Logic fun! I'm 66 and need to keep the brain cells working.

Nice to see you making the switch. I switched over months ago and though GB is still in my toolkit, LPX has made a huge difference in my workflow. Your music will step up to the next level. I have no doubt about it, as you are very talented and I felt you really reached the limits of GB.

Right on learned a lot back way when from yeah. Felt like I hit the wall in garage band. Now that it’s winter it’s time to start another batch of recordings and make the job.any thing you notice between the two programs is much appreciated. I find I always end up watching your videos because your actual using the program to record songs where I find a lot of CZcamsrs seem to think it’s the same with slapping a pile of loops together and saying I created a song for you here. ( no you didn’t you just slapped a bunch of loops down and expected me to relate this to my calluses). I also learned stuff from you that no one seemed to be talking about. I am glad you made the switch because when I hit the wall I figured there wasn’t much you could teach me. It was to the point in finale mixes your where recommending plugins. Which wasn’t where I wanted to go. So to find you once again heading down this road it’s a good feeling. So keep on exploring and teaching. And if I can make a request when coming to some tunes can you write and record something fast and heavy. Would be interested to see how that mix comes out. I feel if you push your vocals. It would give you a nice sharpness Cheers keep up the good work.

Great video as always Lewin. I’ve just made the switch after realising Logic isn’t actually that much different to GB in its simplest form, but with a LOT more features and versatility as you’ve started to demonstrate. I’m also impressed with the much wider range of sounds compared to GB, even though I had MainStage3 loaded too previously. Those horn sections you haven’t downloaded yet are amazing! Different instrument for each key you press, so for a chord, you get a whole brass section. Don’t think you mentioned that currently you can get Logic X Pro on a free trial for 3 months! Still, although GarageBand is truly incredible as a free programme, from what I’ve seen so far, £/$199 is still a small price to pay for a pro-quality, industry standard DAW.

I'm in the process of doing it now. I could never see the point because I have always thought that GarageBand was/is amazing, however it niggled that there were a few features that would have come in really handy from time to time so I made the jump. Sure, there is a bit of a learning curve but it never seems like I'm lost and you can carry on using it like GB if you want so it doesn't hold you up. A few weeks in and I gotta say Logic is incredible, so many more features that I didn't realise I needed until now that improve workflow and massively aid creativity. Best 200 bucks I've ever spent!

One thing I remember is that with Flex Pitch you can fix individual notes without effecting the whole track.

Not comfortable yet. Was thinking maybe just using Logic Pro for mastering for a while because it has
so many different plugins for that alone. ......for a new user....mulitiple takes is hard to get use to compared
    to garageband.

When it comes to arranging, you can slow down the tempo gradually, you can use different time signatures such as 9/8, 6/4 unlike Garageband, you can change the time signature in the middle of your song, you can delete measures. It gives you much more freedom than Garageband of course.

Great video as always Lewin. It's funny because I was so close to upgrading to Logic this weekend. (I realized I have to upgrade my OS first. Ha!)
Question about the mid & side EQing: I know you said plugins like FabFilter do the same thing. I use IK Multimedia's "TRacks". They have a mastering module called T Racks One. It's a dumbed down master plugin, with compression, eq & brick wall limiter all included but kind of hidden for people like me who don't mind NOT seeing under the hood.
Anyway, this plugin has knob called "width" that I don't use that often because I'm usually like "well, I set the pans, I like 'em where they are". But when I DO use it on certain tracks I realize it's not really moving the pans completely. It seems to be moving other stuff, like the reverbs & eq I guess, etc. Here's my question.
Is this width knob basically doing what Fab Filter & Logic's EQ are doing with the side EQ? (Obviously with less control since it's one knob.)
Just wondering. Any thoughts on that would be great. Thanks! Good luck with Logic! I love that you'll be doing videos on both now.

I switched to Logic I think around the same time you did (although I’m stuck at 10.4.8 for now due to 2011 macbook pro 😐). So awesome! You can also use most of the Logic sounds in Garageband too! BTW, if you have a spare external HD laying around, there’s a way within Logic to transfer your sound library there instead so it’s not taking up space on your main machine. Love your tutorials, can’t wait to see you teach Logic the way you did with GB for so many years! Peace ✌️

Barney Miller There probably is, but it won’t be easy to find and I’m not sure where you’d look. Biggest gripe I have with Apple: if you won’t give us the newest version at least give us access to the newest compatible version! I was lucky to snag Logic 10.4.8 right before the update. If you’ve ever bought Logic under your Apple ID, you are able to download the older version though from the app store.

    • @dannyvalentino328
      @dannyvalentino328 Před 4 lety

Actually, it makes a midi keyboard even more important. A midi keyboard just plays the sounds that it’s attached to, like a computer or hardware instrument-synths, drum machines, samplers etc. if you’re producing using a computer, then a midi keyboard is a must have, unless you want to enter notes using a mouse or they computer keyboard. And how much fun would that be.
