🙋🏼♂hi everyone, here are my 6 Pillars on Learning Logic Pro Faster (FREE): www.charlescleyn.com/learn-logic
This is probably the most comprehensive and lucid comparison between the two pieces of software I’ve seen. Most people say Garageband is very limited but when asked to explain they can’t. Good job.
Good video. If you want to do multiple takes for vocal comp. in GB. Loop the region you want to sing. You can record as many takes as you want over that original take and select the regions that work best by making the cuts. However, the feature of cross fading is not in GarageBand. You can achieve this effect by separating the vocal takes (or instruments) to a parallel track and automate the volume faders. 🤙
thats a really smart hack. you win best smart hack on the internet.
There are ways around most things said here including bouncing, and saving alternatives... you can bounce in G.B. just choose the stems/tracks then set the regions you want, then share to wav/aiff/waves...if I take a track in a different direction I just save as version 1 or 2 etc.. for metering there are great free plugins...
Thanks for the added context here!
Great Video! You can actually do multiple takes in GarageBand using the Cycle option, then you can select the take you like the best from a dropdown menu, to comp, you would need to duplicate the tracks, way easier on Logic but that's still there. And there's also a way to duplicate a track with all the settings (effects, instruments) and then simply remove the audio region from it to record another one with the same settings. :)
Great video. You just explained everything I needed to know. Thanks.
What a great comparison. Very helpful. Thank you!
Start in GB for quick tracking ideas. Flesh out a straw man song with basic groove, ideas, and rough cut vocals/guitars. Then import your GB project in LP X for flex tuning, takes, comping, effects, mixing, and mastering. If you don't have LP X you can actually get a song fairly well crafted and polished JUST using GB. But it takes more work because a lot of things that save you time effort (e.g. comping) ONLY are in LP X.
Thank you for the very informative video! I didn't realize how similar the 2 apps were. I need Logic Pro X for it's extra features, but since I'm still kind of new at this, I'll use GB for now until I produce a few songs and decide to upgrade. $200 is enough to make me wait until I decide to go more 'professional'.
Super relevant, clear and concise. Thank you much !
Very helpful video. Thank you!
Very helpful! Thanks.
Thank you for the video! !!
This is the best up to date video I have seen on explaining the differences between GB and Logic, great job! Assume this is Logic Pro 10.5?
Thanks very much, i'm actually using logic 10.4.8
This was really helpful, thank you :)
You’re welcome Anna :)
Thanks dude! Super helpful.
You're very welcome, glad to help.
Do you prefer GarageBand or Logic Pro X? Why? Let us know in a comment 🎵And if you make music, share it!
I use Garage Band. I bought Logic Pro and found it needlessly complex for my needs. I get what I need from GB. I don’t use midi, loops or use any of the sounds. I much prefer the sounds in my Kronos 2 and Roland V drums. I play my own instruments often times playing an entire song, all the way through. For me, I approach verse three differently from verse one.. I want to record a part fast and move on. You can change the tempo on Garage Band , it is just as “Hi Fidelity” as Logic, but mostly I use it like it’s like a tape machine with much more.
@@1Rockstok Thank you for your input. You answered my question which is is the audio fidelity as good in GarageBand as it is in Logic. I’m a newbie at this and even with my limited knowledge the quality on the playback is astounding. My best bet probably is to really master GarageBand. I’m like you. I’m just using to record the instructions I’m playing. Thank you and God bless you. 😊🎸
good job Chuck.
Punching in is much better on Logic. I use two tracks to accomplish the same thing on GB.
Thx, very helpful. But garageband does not delete "takes" you can choose which one you prefer, as well - but not cross over between them.
I would only suggest Logic Pro X for those with lots of space on their computer, as the sound library is huge, and would be hard to fit in a computer with less storage. But the sounds and loops are great.
there’s also an option not to install the sound library if you want to save space but like you say it’s good so most poeple do
You can actually move the library to an external hard drive and get it from there - Logic Pro X > Sound Library > Relocate
Thanks. I recently dabbled in logic with the 10.5 trial and nearly spat my coffee when I saw how easy comping is in logic. The other annoying difference I noticed which stared me on this journey was that garage band doesn't let you adjust a video track to sync it with your project.
Thanks for watching, really, I didn't know that GB didn't let you do that either
Thx 4 that "parforce ride" through the deeps of LPX Pro!
After having watched ur great video about GB 4 the "absolute beginners" 2 get some hints about what I didn't know so far, I tried this 10-min.-run-through 2 help me deciding.
After all, GB seems 2 b the solution 4 me - but: I really would like 2 try out especially the amount of grand-/pianos that come with LPX!
Comparing at the 199 EUR (that I would have 2 pay 4 LPX) with the costs 4 some more piano sounds from any 3rd party, makes me ask, if there is a possibility 2 use LPX pianos with GB?!
Regards from Germany
Martin
Your videos are the best I've on CZcams explaining Logic Pro X. I use Garageband at the moment but I know Logic lets you record a midi track, then record it again while changing the parameters using the Latch automation. Is there anything like this in Garageband?
Hey, thanks for watching, I'm glad they're helping. GB is quite limited when it comes to automation, so I think you'll be better off with Logic if that's what you're looking for
I am primarily a wedding dj. I need to edit and combine songs for first dances. Also I like to make my own intros/outros. Which one should I use
You can do this with GarageBand no problem, I'd save the money!
If you only wanna track vocals and send it off to pro engineers for programming mixing and mastering you reckon garage band should do it for you without compromising the quality of your recordings or not
I subscribed because your way of explaining things is easily understandable for a Indian like me♥️Congrats for all the work.
I appreciate that, thanks for watching.
@@CharlesCleyn Thanks for the reply Brother.
Given that neither work on my iMac since updating to Catalina, I may give Reaper a try- it's a shame because I've got playlists of Logic X tutorials and beginning to catch up on the learning curve-
FOR MORE SOUDS / INSTRUMENTS - DOWNLOAD MAINSTAGE FOR GARAGEBAND...UNLESS INSTRUMENT PATCHES ARE HIGHER QUALITY IN LOGIC PRO, I THINK GARAGEBAND IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT..
Both
GarageBand is great on iPhone, on iPad I would prefer Logic….but not available for iPad yet, ugh
Do you think its an easy transition from Garageband to Logic? I've decided I'm gonna buy it at some point, should I just get stuck into Logic now to save myself having to spend time relearning a new software, or would I just be able to pick it up with little issue if I stick with garageband for a little while?
I think if you know your end goal will be to get logic then go for it but perhaps you don't need logic at all. You can do a lot much GB.
Charles Cleyn cheers, turns out they have a 90 day trial anyway so I’ll get stuck into that and probably buy it when it runs out
Nice vid. Will logic open all my old GB masters if I switch/upgrade?
Thanks for watching, yes, you can go to the media section in logic and import and garageband files so you can carry your work over.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Are there plug ins to emulate older tube technology like tube powered pre amps, compressors, mics, etc.?
Definitely, Logic has a lot of these
How does Logic Pro x make recording voice overs any easier than Audacity?
Not necessarily easier I guess. Just a matter of preference
Good video. And I thank you. However, the name of the product is pronounced "Logic Pro Ten." 🙃
CZcams 1rockstok
Interestingly, neither of the two is capable of removing the huge background noise of the mic in this video.
just a young CZcamsr back then finding his way
Clip View > Ableton killer!
Logic is definitely the hardest DAW I've had to learn. The keyboard shortcuts are still very unintuitive to me but I love the inbuilt sounds and the price.
Really? What DAW would you say has the best shortcuts?
@@CharlesCleyn My last desktop DAW was Ableton Live. I guess because in Live everything is neatly contained in panels it's faster or better streamlined getting around the UI. Logic has panels and windows and plugins etc. so depending on what window or panel you're on the shortcuts are different. But I've been watching your videos and others and getting faster with the logic workflow. I learned Live, even the advanced features, fairly intuitively. With Logic however, there are so many different kinds of features it's a little overwhelming.
garageband is user friendly bro
Yes, it definitely is
Didn’t know Gavin Newsom had any musical talent
are you referring that we look similar?
All you have to say is that Garageband has no mixer. Done.
Yes, that's one point, but there are more!
