  • Turn Canon Eos-M into a RED Komodo
    2 Years now since my first "pro" build and many rig builds later I decided to do a special anniversary evolution build on the Canon Eos-m.
    The camera has become quite notorious and has garnered a cult following and status. What better way to pay homage to where it all began for me.

    Unfortunately the Smallrig canon m100 cage is no longer available. Closest is Smallrig m6 cage but it is slightly bigger.
    Side handle was converted from old arri handle to arri rosette seen here - images.app.goo.gl/qDigcRv7hPP...
    smallrig npf plate are widely available and any 15mm rods will do

    Howdy from Houston - Your video's Public Service Announcement (0.43) was the most interesting part of your video, as I'd never have thought that a diffusion filter (i.e. ProMist) might help to minimize the aliasing one frequent sees in not only Canon but also BlackMagicDesign cameras. Your video certainly confirms that it does. I've got RAWLITE IR-cut OLPF in all of my BMD cameras but the EOS-M only has a UV-IR Cut (Baader -FUVIR-RD31). After your PSA I'm going to explore ProMist or GlimmerGlass to minimize or eliminate the pesky moire /aliasing I've occasionally seen with Magic Lantern/EOS M videos.

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  Před 2 lety

      Hey, thanks for the comment. I hear a lot of people say you need them in blackmagics... especially earlier models but I've still seen people put them in p4k etc.
      I've never really noticed any issues with the later models myself though.
      Nonetheless, the diffusion filters definitely help. If the subject has lots of lines then it can still get a bit wild but for most stuff diffusion filters definitely help 😁

      Hi, yes you can get 1080p. If you go into the movie tab you can turn off raw video and it'll default to 1080.
      There's also an option of making your 1080p higher bit rate too.
      I actually shoot higher than 100 often, sometimes upto 400. This camera hates lowlight though so you may have to de-noise it or use a dark frame (Google darkframe eos-m).
      Thanks for the compliment, the rig is great in this configuration and I've decided to leave it like this.
      Ps, sometimes if I need normal 1080 I'll just insert another blank card without ml and use the default codec.

      @Altcine  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, and thank you.
      From what I've seen the 5d3 is probably one of the best I've seen for ml. It looks fantastic but the bmpcc is going to be a better user experience.
      The filmic qualities of that sensor and BM colour science is like a match made in heaven.
      Yes the 5d3 is plenty sharp, clean and looks very good...I'm just not sure I'd drop the cash because it's not as developed as Eos-M.
      If you didn't need a stills camera your options would be simpler.
      So long answer short...yes it can produce great image but if you handed me the two...I'd take the bmpcc.

    Ey I ve been watching your the eos m magic lantern videos for over a year now and I'm wondering do would you take the 1080 p from the eos m with ML over the 1080 out of the m50? I shoot all my projects on the M50 and super happy with the results. I'm thinking buying an eos m but not so sure its worth the extra workflow but the 10 bit would be nice. Could you make an comparison video about the 1080 p of both? I seen you did the 4 k but i shoot all my project just 1080 p 60 fps. If im correct you can only do 50 fps with ML right? Thanks so much love the content and also you comodo build it's just sick. 😁👍🏽 Greetz from Bali

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  Před 3 lety

      Hi and thanks for watching. I guess it depends what videos you want to shoot.
      The M50 is an amazing camera and I think you can get results similar to this video as I didn't push the grade.
      If grading and specific looks are important then the eos-m would be much better.
      You can do upto 48fps on eos-m but you may not get long recording time as the camera can't handle it. Also you'd have to conform all the footage to 50fps in mlv app so the process is even longer 😞
      I don't have M50 anymore to do the comparison as I prefer to shoot raw or a minimum of 10bit.

    • @ChrisMichaelFilms
      @ChrisMichaelFilms Před rokem +1

      The adapter for EFis really good. You get more lenses and makes your quality better. A speed booster I heard would make it a bit blur a tiny bit cuz of the extra glass. But you would get the full frame. I think you can get away with the blur depending on the look and ho you edit

    • @Altcine
