  • I would like to start by thanking Bob and his wife (subscribers to the channel) for keeping me informed on the Eagle activity at Lake Jacomo concerning the nest collapse and the fate of the eaglets.
The nest collapsed on the night of May 19th, 2024, with three eaglets in the nest. They were still 2-3 weeks from fledging. They were not able to fly away at the time of the destruction because not all of their flight feathers had developed. It was a tragic loss so close to the end of their nesting cycle. The two adult Eagles were just fine. The very next morning, a park ranger was dispatched to the tree to observe and assess the situation. The remains of the nest were all around the base of the tree. Only one eaglet was found. The other two were nowhere to be seen. The eaglet with the broken leg was taken to an animal rescue center close by. It wasn't able to recover from its wounds and was euthanized. The fate of the remaining two eaglets has never been known. Until now.
Bob was very excited in his last post to me. Explaining that he and his wife had seen 2 adult eagles with 2 juveniles with them just a few evenings ago. I collected my camera gear and went to the lake the very next evening, hoping to capture what they had been seeing. I was astonished to find out that, indeed, two of the three eaglets had survived. I had very little luck actually observing them, so the very next morning, I was there at sunrise. This is what I was able to capture on video. I believe the adult in the video is the male, J2.
With both eaglets now fully fledged, they are coming out from the underbrush and testing their flying skills. They are now branching from tree to tree, as they should be this time in their life cycle. They are also very vocal now, always crying out to be fed from the parents. They do not have the skills yet to feed themselves and will be reliant on the parents for food for a while.
This means that somehow, someway, these two young eaglets have survived in the underbrush, unable to fly, for 3-4 weeks. They have survived predators ( coyotes, foxes, etc. ) bad weather, humans, and all other sorts of uncountable disasters that come from being a bird grounded. It is a testament to the adulting Eagles who have been watching over them and giving them continued support throughout this ordeal. I have always known that the Eagles of Jacomo were special. This is just a shining example of their excellence.
I will be continuing to try and capture more of the fledge while I can. The Eagles are on the move now, and filming them will be tough. My best time will be in the early morning hours or the late evening when they are gathered together. Hopefully, I can get a few more videos of this precious survival story.
    Cheers to everyone!
    Happy Day

Yes it is a blessing. All 4 of them flew over me and talking a few weeks ago. The mom and dad landed on the dead tree and formed a heart. The babies landed behind them. So beautiful. 💞🦅💞

@andreafinke8734 Hello Germany! 👋 Hope you're a Chiefs fan ( American football team), my Hometown team. I hear we have a lot of Chiefs fans there.
      About the nest being rebuilt:
The Rangers and staff at the Jackson County / Lake Jacomo Park where the nest used to be takes a 'No Hands' approach to the Wildlife that resides in its acreage. We try to let Mother Nature take its course without human intervention. That is why there will never be an official web camera or any official names given to the Eagles to try and keep them from becoming too humanized. We can only hope 🙏 that the 2 adult eagles will return next mating season and rebuild somewhere close to the same area.
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Cheers!
