    Went to the hardware store bought 100ft of sisal and untreated pine wood thinner planks. Going to cut it down into blocks, drill a hole, string them up all over. Pine is the first thing I've seen Buddy finally engage in with chewing. Cost wise way better. I happen to have the tools at home already to get it done!
    I wanted to buy these hourglass sorta looking toys, he loves, but cannot find them. I got 1 with the rescue budgies, not sure where the person bought it from.

    Very nice and interesting vid
    6:08 that is a bit odd..... Kinda thought he was a plucker...
    7:44 maya and fluffy like sitting on their platform perches and just chewing away at the wood which is a bit odd because they don't like the thin popsicle stick toys I put in
    7:51 earlier I put in a plastic charm toy for Maya. She seems to like rattling it around and hearing the noise but she is much more into her palm leaf shredding toys and her vine ball toy hahaha
    8:47 yep the healthy diet of variety.... Not just plain old seeds...
    10:48 maya hates the cuttlefish she won't go and even touch it but fluffy likes chewing away at it sometimes after he finishes eating his chop he snacks on it

    Im not entirely sure why my birds beak grows so much but I have a suspicion that it is because of the injury he got as a baby from his previous owners and the vets worked on it and trimmed it every 2 weeks for like a year. Hes 8 now and his beak has always grown kind of quick. He doesnt chew on the soft wood block I provide for him either(but he destroyed his old perch, that point in time his beak stayed shorter longer lol but we upgraded cages and the perch is now not used) 😤. The only toys he likes are the paper-y ones. He is provided with fresh chop and pellets.

    @dorkusamericanus Před 3 lety +1

    Our parrotlet had an unusually long, pointy, and very sharp beak when we first got him from the rescue where the foster told us that he had never been to a vet - he doesn’t have a leg band, so I assume his original owner got him from a friend who accidentally bread parrotlets at home. And that I would need to take him to the vet to get his beak trimmed. Fortunately we now don’t have to get his beak trimmed! 😀
    That super sharp, pointy, beak was used like a weapon on our skin whenever we got too close. And probably wasn’t very comfortable for him either. Luckily after just a few short weeks of providing lots of toys to chew on, a cuttlefish bone to scrape, and lots of seeds for him to crack open with his beak as reward during training. Not to mention lots of sweaters that we wear around the house for him to destroy (parrotlets are notorious for chewing their humans while they wear them,) his beak now is worn to a regular looking parrotlets and we won’t have to take him in just for beak trim. Of course we will take him for a checkup anyway. But it’s amazing what providing lots of healthy toys, food, and foraging activities can do for their beaks!

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  Před 3 lety +1

    • @dorkusamericanus
      @dorkusamericanus Před 3 lety

      @@BirdNerdSophie yes!!!!!! And training! Can’t have a bird in your house that goes around causing blood to be drawn every time you interact with him, that’s not ok. And apparently everyone who had him before us just never bothered to train him out of that. Amazing how quickly he responded to training also once we started feeding him lots of veggies also. Because he’s so desperate for those seeds as reward

He didnt touch the other nails after the first one and then he didn't take any money either.
