    I see that your table has a lot of cuts in it and you probably replace it after a while but have you ever thought of using a spoiler board. 1/4 mdf still let’s lots of suction through and could even add double stick tape if needed but it will save your table a lot longer. We use them all the time in our stair building shop. Our bits never touch our table. And we have plugs for all non used holes

    • @coryelliott764
      @coryelliott764 Před rokem

      why not use 1" mdf? it allows, plenty of suction and we can get a year out of a set of spoilboards. and yes your bits do touch your table. same as mine, same as theirs. wouldn't need the spoilboard at all if they didn't. your hole issue is weird as well. there are three hundred holes in my table and every one of the them are covered by the spoilboards.

  • @tooltym
    @tooltym Před rokem +1

    Countersunk screws are not advisable in acrylic. Any expansion or contraction of the acrylic itself or the surface it's mounted to will result quickly in screw hole breakout. Better to use a flat under-head type screw thru an oversized thru-hole. If you need a flush top surface, use a flat low-head screw thru an oversized thru hole and an oversized counterbore, to allow for slight movement.

    Do you find it better to profile-cut acrylic in the climb cut fashion, as opposed to conventional?

    • @Mooshkajoe
      @Mooshkajoe Před rokem

      I found with acrylic, in my experience, if you want a decent surface finish, you can make huge cuts, but taking a 10 thou for your final pass with conventional tends to yield a better result. Climb tends to leave a mess that you have to file or wheel.
      Also, a slightly slower speed but a normal feed. Don't go too slow or you'll just melt everything.

      Hi, just bought a new CNC with a 9kw spindle for our sign shop. Can you recommend any bits for acrylic and aluminum.

    • @joshuateter2410
      @joshuateter2410 Před rokem

      @@highmountaintrader yes! Amana tool is a popular one, but LMT Belin or LMT Onsrud were my favorite. We used single flute bits, typically called O flute.
      Our router was an older one and had some rigidity issues, so we used 1/8 or 3/16 bits for our aluminum cutting, and 1/4 for acrylics and composite panels.
      Typically these bits were in lengths of 1" or less. The 1/8 bit was .5 long. All 1/4 shank.
      We also had a 2 inch long 3 flute bit for cutting sign foam. I wasn't a fan of that one at all, but I wasn't the boss.
      I would also highly recommend getting a Kool Mist and running it with no liquid simply for an airjet on the bit and cutting area.
      As a summary, Amana tools I think will be cheaper option than the LMT bits, but I had less breakages and better finishes with LMT, esp in aluminum. But part of that could have been our older router table with some rigidity issues.
