- Taken from the Final Moments of the 1985 Highlander film, I Added Music during the actual Quickening portion of the scene. Note I do not own this Footage. Highlander is owned by Panzer/Davis productions. The added Music at the end is from Wagner's Gottendamerung and is entitled Siegfried's Funeral March

I like how the kurgan seems to enjoy the fight even more when he starts to loose, its almost like it been hundreds of years since hes had a real challenge
it looks to me like he's trying harder and harder to look like he's enjoying the fight to look intimidating and at the end it starts to look pathetic instead
clancy great actor
I think he's astonished (and maybe even a little impressed) by how skilled Connor has become. When they first encountered each other he was just a timid boy who could barely even swing a sword but since then he's grown into a master, a true equal and the worthy opponent that the Kurgan has been waiting so long to face.
It looked...like he was happy to see it end. Am I weird for pitying him?
he hasn't felt fear in centuries..its an adrenaline rush
At 2:18, Kurgan smiles at Connor with almost a sense of pride that he’s finally become a true opponent to him and someone possibly more worthy than him of the Prize. Great acting by Clancy
Clancy Brown is amazing. Everything he does, but especially characters like the KURGAN and Gus from Pet Sematary 2
I agree! Even though he's evil, he showes he isn't a bad sport and definitely not afraid of death. He seemed excited at that point to see the the rest through. One of the greatest villains.
Damn you said it all perfectly here.
@@rickdeckard7161 exactly I like pet sematary 2 Clancy brown dominated that movie.
Yes indeed, and well said. I read something that said something like “The Kurgan took many hits to the torso, as the fight worked more in Connor’s favor. And for the first time in his long, long life, the Kurgan feared he might lose.”
I love the fact that the Kurgan realises he's lost but keeps on coming anyway, determined to burn out than fade away. But there can be only one...
Well he said it in church. It is better to burn out than fade away.
2:19 when Kurgan realizes he's going to lose - he's so AMAZED that he doesn't care. That's awesome.
Not unlike Max Zorrin laughing at his ruination because of an aged James Bond.
kurgan commits suicide,he gives a fatal attack
"It's better to burn out than to fade away!"
I read somewhere that once things started to work in Connor’s favor, “for the first time in his long, long life, the Kurgan fears he might lose.” And of course, he did.
@@jordanelza8806 its not a matter of fear its a matter of sword discipline
My uncle is actually responsible for the special effects after the kurgans head is cut off
Nice
That's Cool
That’s awesome yo
If he didn't get a promotion for that, he should have
@burtonrules123 he actually did he works for the moving picture company in London and has worked on many films so your sarcasm while trying to sound witty is completely wasted , the moving picture company is ran by one of the Monty python crew and the subcontract special effects artists out to various film makers but with the low level sarcasm I wouldn't expect you to comprehend much of what I have said
There can be only one.......good highlander movie for some reason.
TheLonePeasant there were a couple of good ones. When they brought in Adrian Pauls character they weren't
to bad until the last .
tHE CHARACTER YES, episodes from the series yes, 4 and the source not so much.
TheLonePeasant of all things, the anime movie was surprisingly not too bad. Made no sense in continuity, but at least the story was competent.
I enjoyed the animated series. Didn't like the animated story much since I loved the real tv series so much. But it, the animated, wasn't to bad.
Don Dehning never saw the animated series honestly though I saw the SpoonyOne do a review of it when he reviewed the crappy Jaguar CD game.
The impression I get of the Kurgan is he wanted it to end. He didn't want the prize really. He was a warrior. He was raised to test his skill against the best. But as the end neared he became more self destructive. He started attacking his appearance. Making massive scenes drawing attention. Two thousand years is a long time to focus on the prize. Was he thinking what would he do if he won? He didn't hate humans just considered them annoying. I think he was happy losing at the end.
He wanted The Prize, but as part of an ancuent warrior race, he loves a good fight. Dying by the sword made him as happy as living by it.
Best highlander villain in my opinion.
Nothing like a good psychopath.
JediMaster Yorhacken lol lol yeah I remember that. That why I love this movie
totally best highlander buy a mile its true classic
Agreed. Love any fight scene with a katana.
He looked totally thrilled that someone was finally able to best him. Kinda like Goku.
To this day I love the idea that all Conner needed was some space to work with to beat the Kurgan, as soon as there was no clutter where the Kurgan could use his size and strength, the fight was over.
I love how their sword clanging sound
I love the way Kurgan looked like a kid on Christmas morning AFTER getting slashed a couple of times! LOL! I guess he got off on the challenge....
In Morgan Freeman voice Not long after that The Kurgan got a job working as a security guard in a North Maine prison..not the normal occupation for someone accustomed to engaging in sword play with ancient Scotsmen but he managed to collect 37,000 from the IRS after his brother passed on And well that's something I guess
Hahaha!
"He took the Lord's vain in name, I'm telling the Warden."
"You'll be telling him with my sword up your ass!"
*Phoney French Accent*
& not long after that. He turned into a miserly crab. Who's Daughter was inexplicably a Sperm whale. & ran fast food joint wherein he employed an over enthusiastic Talking sponge. That always wore Square pants ;)
*Then of course Kurgan was arrested on charges of alleged murder of an inmate, he was taken to trial, but unfortunately with no hard evidence their claims were not upheld and Kurgan was aqcuitted and found not guilty, though lost his job as security guard at Shawshank and was forced to working as a menial police deputy in another small town in Maine....however soon after that, he was in fact viciously killed by a dog, and then buried on ancient Indian burial grounds and brought back to life, where he became a zombie, and eventually is put out of his misery. So, going from an immortal, to security guard, to town deputy, to zombie, it's a rather sad end to an amazing life*
And lets not forget Kurgan becoming a Coast Guard commanding officer and helicopter pilot. Lol
I love that "heheh what kept you"
One of the most satisfying final battles in any movie.
This isn't merely MacLeod getting a quickening; he's the final immortal here and has won The Prize.
The prize is not attainable until he defeats Jet Li.
what prize? stuffed animal?
What was the prize anyway.
Nobody Knows what the prize is.
But as you can see, this Quickening doesn’t look like the others, and as he says, “the Quickening overpowers me!” It must have been the mother of all Quickenings.
The music in this scene is just epic especially leading up to the part where Connor becomes the victor.
Here we are.
Born to be kings.
We're the princes of the universe.
Who would have thought that Mr. Krabs was an immortal psychopath before starting the Krusty Krab? I guess the decapitation made him rethink his life choices...
Who would have guessed all the stresses of the fast food business would drive him to the best drill instructor in federation history?
REMEBER SERVICE GUARANTEES CITIZENSHIP!!!
Freshie207 Who would have thought that in some other world, he is a savage orc leader who invades Azeroth?
Who would have thought that the kurgan's ancestor was a secret Police commander that brainwashed people with his rock bending powers.
Who would have thought that kurgan once again deals with a person that named "connor". And he became the post traumatic lieutenant cop and killed connor several times?
For his crimes as an immortal, centuries old butcher, he was resurrected as a miserly crab and reduced to working in fast food management. A fitting end.
Man, I'm so used to modern Clancy Brown, that it's kinda shocking to see him looking almost like a kid in this.
"It hurts?"
I became his fan when I first saw thus.
I was 5 when this movie came out in the UK. I'm in Scotland and it's still amazing today. They don't make movies like this anymore which is a bloody shame..R.i.P Sean Connery.x
The bit, when Connor uses the sword technique that Ramirez cut the kurgan’s throat. The shock on The Kurgan’s face. Pure classic !
2:38
Are you feeling it now, Mr. Krabs?
you see the evil in his eyes. I really liked him when I was younger. I still do.
Highlander+Excalibur= Epic👏👏👏👏👏
Greatest Highlander quickening ever !.🎬🎞👍
I love highlander. Absolutely brilliant. The best series of films ever made. Good always triumphs over evil. In the end, there can be only one. The best saying ever.
I get the quickening after every bottle of scotch I drink, and the same when I pass out, damn good movie, thanks dad for bringing me up on this 😁
Kurgan was such a fucking beast man. Dude was a straight up max level warrior.
I know I've already commented but this guy Clancy brown is such a good actor I love it how he enjoys the fight even when he knows it's his time to die he dies with a cheeky and happy grin on his face like he knew it was his destiny
i've got something to say!!!! it's better to burn out than to fade away !!!!!
This was definitely the best of all the Highlander movies and series...
The Original and True Classic!!
all the others are just money maker
There can be only one ( higlander movie )
There *SHOULD HAVE* been only one!
Damn straight
best quote ever and the lightning after highlander takes the guys head off .i remember watching this movie as a little kid in the an i still love watching this movie
Dando um toque para o Misterprickly

There can be = SÓ PODE
There can be only one ! Só PODE haver um !
There should only be one! = Só deve haver um !
@@RaizenToguro You know what Raizen, I'm not sure I like your demeanour. I might just tell The Kurgan about your negative comment. Lock your doors is all I'm gonna say.
the most awesome part, of this great classic film, i suppose that The Kurgan's quickening have that very demonic appearance, simply because he was very evil, and the multiple faces that composed the monster (the quickening), symbolize the countless immortals defeated by The Kurgan in the past, anyway, this was a very epic duel, with Connor as indisputable winner.
Evil he was not, he was just an ultimate warrior and he respected only strength and regarded humans little more than you would a pet dog.
You two think too much. It’s a good film. No more, no less.
the mad I remember seeing a different version when this first came out, the last quickening part was longer wasn’t just demons but all kinds of things , women , explosions, wars, news when the zoom into his eye and he’s spinning around longer, screaming “I know everything”.
Music from the Movie Excalibur originally from Gotterdammerung, Twilight of the Gods by Wagner. Awesome touch. Excellent Choice. Totally Kicks ass.
Immortal warrior that exists outside of time as we know it, always looking over his shoulder for the next battle, sweet katana, wears 80’s dad uniform down to the white tennis shoes.
The last salute from the Kurgan to Connor is so badass. He salutes until the last second
Working on a Connor MacLeod cosplay right now. Adore this movie.
One of the top 5 quickenings.
The fanfare at 1:40 gives me a shiver, every time
YES!!!!!
Film Theory: The Kurgan threw the fight because the 'prize' at the end had no value or meaning to him. He's not going to settle down and have a family and he has no use for the power you get for winning. For the Kurgan, it was better to die in battle than to grow old and die of old age.
"It's better to burn out than to fade away."
berserkchip what? But they don’t age ?
@@theturtleman12345 the prize includes mortality
Kind of a dumb theory to be honest. Negates pretty much everything.
The prize was ultimate knowledge of every immortals life experience.
@@martinrobo123 exactly. He could have used that to rule the world and throw it into chaos.
2:01 The moment it occurs to Kurgen that he may actually lose. You can see it on his face. McCloud notices it too and realises he can do this
I love the fact that Kurgan looked so happy because of it. I guess he was an evil thrill seeker ..
WNShadow814 Kurgan was not a match for Duncan at this time. Kurgan realized that so he used the woman to get an advantage.
WNShadow814
He is immortal, he has existed for centuries, if not millenia, and he has been fighting others, and winning, for all that time.
Until that moment, he saw this fight as nothing more than a means to an end, and certainly didn't think McLeod was going to win. When he realized that he could lose, then he became excited by the possibility of a new experience - either he wins, and takes the Prize, or he dies and finds out what that is like.
Being immortal might not be the wonderful thing people think it is - can you imagine how mind-numbingly boring it must be after enough time passes?
"I feel everything! I know- I KNOW EVERYTHING!"
Man for the time those were pretty sick special effects.
This Quickening caused ripples in time and made me return from the future.
And now the Kurgan is Mr. Krabs.
Also fun fact. Clancy Brown apparently hated playing the Kurgan.
Excellent staging of this sword battle! It's a shame the sequels that followed did not follow the same plotline that skill, not how many immortals you killed, was the defining element that made you victorious.
Delicious campy scene. And yet, it's one of the better sword fights Hollywood has produced.
DOUG HEINS You are correct sir!
+Michael Rall
the fight scene is VERY campy now.
Jackie Chan would have beheaded Kurgen in half an hour's time
Obviously, you have never heard of The Duelists!!!!! I mean it was made in 1977 and has some way better sword fights and realistic as well.
You dont watch too much movies do you
Choreography was was it was. You know Lambert has been legally blind, right? That's why the moves were repetitive.
This is probably one of the most underrated movie franchises ever.
Love the added Wagner. Makes an already epic scene even more epic.
Agreed. The insertion of ‘Siegfrieds Funeral’ was a nice touch.
Excalibur also made superb use of this piece for some of its more dramatic and ominous scenes.
Classic! 0:53 is one of the best climatic showdowns ever put on film. The background music is incredibly epic, thrilling and triumphant. 2:10.
Fantastic and the music MAKES the sene! Love the way that the Kurgan knows he's lost but keeps on coming anyway!
Interestingly, although from the movie point of view Connor received the prize and became mortal, from TV Series point of view however he basically defeated one of the most powerful and evil immortals around (i.e. The Kurgan obviously) and carried on being immortal but received a dark quickening from defeating the Kurgan. But with the help of his immortal best friend Duncan and also his immortal good friend Fitzcairn (also a good friend of Duncan) they helped him overcome the dark quickening he received.
Here we are
Born to be kings
We're the princes of the universe
Here we belong
Fighting to survive in a war with the darkest powers
And here we are
We're the princes of the universe
Here we belong
Fighting for survival
We've come to be the rulers of your world
I am immortal
I have inside me blood of kings
I have no rival
No man can be my equal
Take me to the future of your world
The movie and scene that started it all. If it was not for this movie and series it would have been over .
00:46 - moment when Kurgan realize's he has lost the fight
Also the music you added works so well!!!
I cannot die, not until my destiny is fulfilled.
The additional music you added makes the scene much more dramatic!
i always like to wear my reeboks when it's time for an epic sword battle
After Kurgan dies, everything becomes hilariously over the top.
All time favourite. Bravo.
One word describes this scene and movie..... EPIC
@Bannerman242 You know what. Watching this again makes me feel awsome that 80's produced such great stories in cinema when I was born. Movies like this came out in the mid eighties 1984 on. And I am glad to have born in the generation that made heroes like this come in one size. MANLY! The ending of highlander is the hero rescuing the damsel. What's cooler than that? Something overlooked in the ending IMO!
I love the change to the Wagner! Blending two of my soundtracks
"....Now I wasn't there, but I heard when Kurgan lost his head, he was smiling like a kid on Christmas morning.."
Okay, coming from someone who doesn't mind the frequent Star Wars edits, adding in the music, especially THAT music, for the Quickening just kills it.
Man i wish people were as creative now with storylines like Highlander. No political stuff just pure escapism
I always liked the highlander movies..don't lose your head😷
I like how for most of the scene you can only see their silhouettes but you can tell them apart because not only do they have very different weapons but it's also because one dresses more heroic than the other, I fucking love this scene
I choose to believe that nothing else besides this one Highlander film, nothing else Highlander related is or SHOULD be canon. I tell people “the Highlander phrase is ‘there can be only one’, and for the movies, there SHOULD be only one!
This was the fight. Everything about good and evil and good cinematography can be summed up in this scene.
The music in this scene is outstanding...
what amazing scene from this epic film .ive been a fan for years .anyways i say it in run down theather in the early 80"s
and i thought the sequels where bad but this music you edited just took the top spot
"What kept you?"
Normally I don't like it when people add their own music too movies already made. But I did like your added music. It added too the scene.
After watching this movie I fell in love with the wit the Highlander franchise been liking highlander ever since
3:03-Masterpiece.
Best Hollywood sword fight ever. Darth Maul and the Princess bride are the only other ones who could challenge this.
2:22 And then, Connor says: « Hum... Lieutenant Anderson? Why are you doing this face? »
Can you believe Clancy Brown was only 26-27 when he did this film
#1, I loved how they probably used prima cord for the glass break and made it look like lightening, saved on the S E budget I assume.
#2, "Hehehe, What kept you?" The witty last possible second save every movie since has tried and failed to make work
#3, Come on, 80's special effects, gotta love them
The Highlander cannot claim the prize... if you disable his head.
Right up there with "The Room"
Fuck anyone hating on the music! I think it fits the scene great, its epic and heroic! Makes this badass final battle better than it already is.
...and Wagner is playing in the background...how sweet can victory be!!!!!
There can be only one.....till Highlander 2 came out 😂😂. Still an amazing movie...1 not 2......obvs 😜
holy shit it just turns into a pink floyd concert acid flashback at the end
A local pawn shop by me has an officially licensed replica of the Kurgan sword for $600... A little steep for my blood
There can only be one...legion of demons inside me.
Clancy missed making highlander movies
I 've seen it so many times the "Highlander" movie. Connor MacLeod remaining undead man who played without survive when he was murder for fight.
It's the prize!
I used to find this movie so badass, but looking at it now is so LOL!
This is the movie that prompted me to take Fencing Class in 1987.
Great film. Great music.
great ending to a classic film even seeing the wires spinning him around didnt spoil it for me .
I just picked him for his height and hair lol. but to be honest he works out daily so why wouldn't he be able to sword fight? I have Korean Masters that I trained with that were A LOT older than that and they could do much more than fake sword fight.
I never saw this quickening with music better without music
Forgot that Venom was part of the quickening. Lol 😂
