I remember as a boy when my grandpa and my dad had speed Jack. Worked good! Beat scooping all the corn off by hand. The wagon was very stable on it too.

If the Tractor pulling the wagon had a hydraulic fitting you wouldn't need the wagon hoist

Ears falling on the ground from the very top of the corn elevator hitting the ground and everyone just looks up,does nothing, don't even go pick it up,looks like a state job. Our setup used a Ford model A engine to run the elevator and the raising jack both, raising jack shaft power came off other side of bottom elevator power shaft to power the raising jack and we had a long steel rod we would push to raise or pull back to lower the wagon on the hoist. I also remember my dad used homemade wood oak "shear pins" that was maybe 3/4" round that ocassionaly would break if the elevator got overloaded.

We realized the corn was falling. It didn't seem like a good time to pick up the ears until we unloaded the wagon. Thank you for your reply and the nice reminiscing story. BTW, we are all volunteers that at Farmamerica.

They had the two plastic tubs setting there by the axle of the elevator to pick up the ears that had fallen to the ground.

No safety is not first. Safety is part of the decision making process. You decide to do something and then figure out how to do it safety if possible. You safety first folks never get anything done....
