Not a very exciting video but we do this during the spring or summer to clean out the crib. Sometimes we grind the corn for feed and other times we shell it and sell it to a local elevator. Thanks for watching!
So many memories run through my mind watchin this. The John Deere. The elevator. The scoop shovel. I'm 78 and when I was younger I knew them all very well. I use to have energy like that too. Most of the farmers I worked for, when I was a kid, didn't have a elevator. The grain got shoveled off and on a wagon or a truck. Ear corn was ground into corncob meal for cattle and fed to hogs on pasture as ear corn. Some farmers had a hand cranked sheller that you run ear corn through, one ear at a time, too feed the chickens. Boy, I'll tell ya what, those were days of workin hard, but I loved every one of em.
Thanks for sharing those memories! Still some hard work to be done on the farm! Next time we will be shelling the corn with a 43 sheller. Thanks for watching!
Ahhh, so blessed to smell that ear corn. Not quite as good as harvest but still good. I don't how many cameras are watching I wouldn't be able to shovel at that pace, Lol. It was fun in the past shoveling into a feed grinder and making 3020 or 730 Diesels snort. Very perfect setup, Thanks for sharing.
Some are so worried about the pto shaft. The hell with that. I'm more worried about having to shovel up the shell corn under the elevator. I'm not stupid enough to get tangled in that damn shaft but to have to shovel the corn twice. Not going to happen. Love the old Deeres and the way of doing things back in the day.
Is this a history learning farm for the public or a family farm saving history? The hybrids do not let the pickers husk like the corn of the 60's. Plus my wife used the tell me all the time my butt crack popped out. lol We had a JD B and a JD 70, Killbros. box and an older JD elevator. We put a plate where the grates are for the shell corn when it was dry and moving it to grind.
My dad and I have a few cows and horses to feed. Couple pigs for the kids in 4H. We don't make our living off farming but enjoy keeping the antiques running and mostly find them from local farms.
She's running like a posh watch 👍🇬🇧

Always to cool to watch what farming was when farmers still had corn cribs and small tractors
Thanks for watching!
I love seeing the old john Deeres working on the farm
I agree. Especially the 2 cylinders, they are unique.

Dangerous, no PTO shield.
@@leeengel4025 Not much common sense in that statement. Famous last words.
