  • Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Beginner’s Guide: Tips and Tricks to Survive
In this Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Beginner’s Guide: Tips and Tricks to Survive, I’m going to go through essential beginner’s tips that will help you understand the game better while surviving challenging encounters. I’ll be discussing the basics of combat, the best beginner classes to start with, optimal party composition, and general tips.
    Wiki:pathfinderwrathoftherighteous...
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is an isometric tactical fantasy CRPG based on the Pathfinder tabletop version of the same name. It’s developed by Owlcat Games who also made Pathfinder: Kingmaker back in September 2018. Although Wrath of the Righteous is technically a sequel to Kingmaker, it focuses on a different storyline where your goal is to reclaim the world by leading crusades against hordes of demons. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be available on PC this September 2, 2021.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous can be a complex and confusing game whether or not you’re an experienced CRPG player. While you’re starting out, I recommend selecting “Auto Level Up” for your Companions in the Difficulty section until you’re able to learn most of the mechanics. You can turn this off if you wish to customize their abilities and skills at any point in time, but it is not unwise to follow some of if not most of the recommended Feats the game will suggest.
Remember that you can opt to lower the combat’s difficulty from Normal if you find encounters too intimidating. It’s definitely acceptable to do so especially since there’s a ton of trial and error involved to fully understand the game, and you can increase it again once you’re through harder encounters.
Lastly, avoid Multiclassing your character until you have a much better sense of Pathfinder Class Building. Many Classes feature Archetypes that are already a mash up of two or more Classes, which removes the need to Multiclass them in a lot of cases. If you find that you want to play a combination of 2 Classes, but you are new to the game, try to find an Archetype that takes care of this for you.

I've found an easy way to deal with encumbrance is to bring an animal companion. Many classes have archetypes that include animal companions, my personal favorite is the sylvan sorcerer. The animal's strength will be considered for total party encumbrance and many of the animals to choose from have very high strength ability scores.

1:Even if you prefer turn-based mode it helps to initiate combat in active mode with multiple ranged attacks before switching.
2: Pets get Feats, skills and equipment too. A mount and its rider with the Outflank Feat can benefit at the same time. Pets are also best for the perception skill.

Great Guide and have to agree about avoiding multiclass until you know what you are doing. In Kingmaker I multiclassed on my first character because I wanted to get Mystic Theurge later since the discription sounded so cool. Needless to say my PC ended up totally useless most of the time and had to be carried by the rest of the party.

  • @lavenderchants6014
    @lavenderchants6014 Před 2 lety +5

I think a good beginner's tip for the early part of the game is to give both Seelah and Camellia each a level of Rowdy at 2nd level.
This gives them sneak-attack and vital-strike bonus damage that works on both ranged and melee attacks.
So, Camellia becomes a ranged assassin that ends up one-shot-killing one enemy before each combat even starts, and then usually goes first in the surprise round and kills another. During melee, her Rapier starts doing 10 to 20 damage normally instead of only 4 or 5.
Meanwhile, Seelah becomes an Uber-tank that does 40 to 50 damage per hit with the magic Glaive you find early on, and once in a while that Glaive will cause multiple enemies to flee after she takes out the first one. It's wonderful!
There is no cost to using Vital Strike and getting a huge damage boost unless you are normally doing multiple attacks per round.
During the first few levels when most characters are only hitting once per round anyway, Vital Strike is well worth a 1 level dip into Rowdy for almost everyone that you get to join your party at that point.
It makes potentially difficult early battles, like the water elemental in the Maze, into very short and easy affairs. If you have multiple ranged vital-strike characters in your party, then the elemental generally doesn't make it across the room to attack anyone unless you boost the difficulty way up.
I would not do the Rowdy level for Lann, however, as he is so devastating with a composite longbow as a pure Monk, I think it is foolish to multiclass him during the early levels. This also applies to any two-weapon-fighting builds you may be working on. Vital Strike ends up being a wasted ability fairly quickly in those builds.

Buffing is definitely important. Knowing that the same bonus usually doesn't stack(e.g. if you have two sources of a luck bonus then only the highest is applied) with some exceptions(dodge bonuses) and what the durations are spells. Spells like Heroism grant a +2 morale bonus for combat capability and lasts 10 minutes/caster level so it's a good pick for your front liners and can be cast at the start of a map(just be wary of losing time to failed traversal checks).

Maybe due to the constant dungeon combat, the Slayer quickly became a staple class whenever I ventured forth in there.

What I found to be very important when playing on core difficulty and above is crowd control. The game will throw masses of mobs at you and you simply won't be able to cope unless you can take some out of the fight for several rounds. There's a variety of crowd control spells in the game. I find that I am using the pit/grease spell quite allot as many of the monsters seem to be immune to sleeping/dazing spells. This is why I would recommend taking a spellcaster (ideally a wizard/sorcerer), at least on your first playthrough anyway.
As far as difficulty level is concerned, core/hard seem to be the most balanced once you know what you are doing. Unfair is really just there for those who have mastered the game to the point where it's no longer a challenge. I wouldn't recommend tat unless you want to spend hours getting past a single quest lol

Just started playing this last night & absolutely loving it! Tried to get into Kingmaker several times but it didn't stick, probably something to do with the overall story or time limit in the background, not sure. This feels a lot more 'D&D epic', even if we do start at lvl 1.
So I've decided on a Winter Witch, and started with a Keen Kitsune Witch Doctor, much to my surprise! I assume I'll need to level to 5th to get 3rd level divine spells (the prereq for WW), then I plan to switch to an actual Witch of some flavour til 5th (again for 3rd lvl arcane prereq), then finally to Winter Witch. I know the WW is a bit under-powered in the TT version of PF, but I'm just roleplaying a theme here, so don't care too much :).

I have a tip, not sure if this is part of pathfinder rules or a bug in kingmaker though. In turn based mode if you right click your mouse you can switch between different moving options, if you select movement only it makes it easy to move your max distance and still get your action. Anyway if you select the smallest movement of 5 you can actually move away from close combat without provoking attacks from enemies. this was huge for me in kingmaker as any ranged or caster caught in melee could just move away, then attack or cast without any risk of attacks of opportunity

    @TNM001 Před 2 lety +3

many say "don't be intimidated, just set it on easy", but i can only reccommend NOT to set it on "easy" at the beginning. make your mistakes early or you will misskill so badly (because "easy") that you only notice later and run into a wall.
you will want to have an option for easy gameplay later in the game when you don't want to redo stuff anymore and just get the story done.
if you don't know the system you will be badly misskilled anyways, you need some resistance from the game early to notice when you do terribly wrong so you can correct it before you are 50h into the game.
so, set it on normal, take the auto-stuff from the game, and when it gets hard towards the last 3rd of the game, set it on easy to get through.
Divinity is another franchise that had the same problem, they had to patch in an even easier option later because of this.

dont be intimidated. Put it on easy if you like and dive in, gradually open the game up to yourself, try out whatever looks cool, have fun, as you get to understand it bit by bit you will want more of a challenge. so rise the difficulty as you see fit. When you really get your teeth into it you will be in love. Its extremely customizable. I for example love a good challenge but hate big crits. I hate when I do everything well but due to a random dice roll a boss gets a lucky crit and one shots me for massive damage so instead you can turn crit damage down, this means both you and enemies crits will play a smaller roll in deciding the victor of combat thus (for me) reducing frustration. Of course this also means making super dependent crit builds is less viable too lol

If I have one gripe, I wish I could make my ENTIRE party from the get go (or during an NG+ type scenario), I also had that pet peeve in Kingmaker.
EDIT: Kingmaker was a TIME SINK. Between 2 playthroughs I did around 240 ish hours, & this was BEFORE the DLCs came into the picture. I expect WoTR to also have a lot of content before their DLCs come into things.

Since I'm a story first kind of player, I'll pick a class that seems fit for the character the overview in the Steam store of the game. And then roll with whatever comes out.
That, however, brings one of the biggest issues I have with RPGs: I do that, I start playing, I find more bits of the story, those bits tell me "this other character concept with that other class would fit so much better in this", restart, find new things to change that, restart, get another character idea that appeals more to me, restart, find an image of some fantasy character that inspires me a much better character that fits in like a glove, restart, get burned out after the umpteenth time I've gone through that conversation, move to another game, time passes, go back to the game, restart...
Without spoilers, what would be the kind of character that would fit better? A jovial, male, human paladin? A dashing rogue without scruples? An evil female dwarven warlock looking to control demons for a war against elves? Whatever else?

I've heard inquisitor is a class that is aesthetically pleasing for this game. They are basically religious bounty hunters working on behalf of a diety they may or may not get along with. Makes sense they would be there to take part in a crusade.
A good necromancer that is cleansing the world with death might also be interesting if you make it to the ending... that was hinted at by one of the trailers I think.

It’s about buffing allies. Gives various boosts and bonuses to your allies. But you also lose your Aeon gazes when you switch to Devil, and to be honest, Aeon gazes just seem flat out better to me than the stuff the devil hands out. …though it’s admittedly hilarious to turn your companions into ticking bombs that explode when they are no longer useful to you and take out all enemies around them.
The devil can steal some of the demon and angel mythic stuff, which has interesting applications.
The main problem I see, though, is that you get the devil 5/6ths into the game, so making it work with your build might be tricky, especially if you relied on Aeon stuff beforehand.
