    The camshaft is most likely beaten up just like the camshaft case it's running in. Usually you should replace everything since the scratches will cause high wear and tear due to bad oiling even after fixing the alignment

      @@skudnu5462 ideally, yes, if you can lock timing you should inspect the cam for damage and replace if there is any damage. I caught it pretty early on mine. However, this is the puma procedure.

    Was there a recall for this issue? What year(s) of S55 had this problem? If none of the bolts were loose, I don't see how they could have caused noise.

    Is it fine to cold start the vehicle and immediately put it into gear to move it a few feet? Like brake coast to one spot to another?

    • @ps2cho
      @ps2cho Před 3 měsíci

      @@j.varghese I still think the cause all over the forums is just a guess. Tons of people are saying its due to loose bolts causing the cam to rattle, but if youre saying they are all tight then I wonder if is the opposite and overtorqued, over time metal expansion or change in wear patterns makes the tolerances too tight and causing the noise? Interesting.

    • @j.varghese
      @j.varghese  Před 3 měsíci

      @@ps2cho my best guess is over torquing stretched the bolts a little too much which means the threads on the bolt are further apart than the threads for the cam ledge. So that little extra stretch could be causing it.

  • @danielp3287
    @danielp3287 Před měsícem

    You know that your "repair" will one day breake your engine ? The noise occurs because the camshaft is rubbing on the bearing housing. So your camshaft has wear marks. yes BMW does it that way but why does BMW do it that way? because you don't want to invest thousands of euros in recalls. At first you don't hear anything. After 30-40-60,000km you have engine damage. But you won't have the car for that long, so I think the next owner will be happy
