"man, fingers are weird if you look at them" this I going to be a great video.
hamie it really cracks me up how he still does his little wave, even though he’s not really “on camera...”
LOL😁
can't wait for the LGR: Tech Tales - History of Beige Computers video.
looks like you messed up, your computer is totally...bricked.
*slow claps*
"Drum sounds"
*Slow Clap* Oh good. That’s still working.
Better take it to *Pieces* .
PUN. !lors3 ... Oh Wait. This isn't Soaryn's chat!
I enjoy pretty much all of your videos, but to why I personally enjoy the LEGO episodes most is definitely the mixture of watching something slowly assemble before my eyes (that is relevant to my interests) and your very soothing voice.
Especially in these videos where your just talking about random things!
The Apple 2 brings back some very fond memories from staying at friends who owned one, and the build is so adorable! Can't wait for the next one!
I hear you man. Clint has the voice that you'd expect from the radio hosts of those relaxation stations.
Happy to hear that, thank you!
Agreed. If Clint made audio books, I'd imagine a lot of people (myself included) would buy the crap out of them. Some CZcamsrs have cool content but voices that just make it tough to listen. LGR is the complete package!
After a long, hard day at work, this video is incredibly relaxing. Clint's voice is so soothing.
Corey Ruth future career path for LGR
As someone who went to school for museum studies, and have a small collection of obsolete technology, a museum would totally excite me! I would love to help out in some way too if i can! I think a travelling museum to schools to show kids who would never otherwise encounter such devices that have been pushed out would be a super valuable experience.
.
Jeran Agreed! And in fairness making a public museum would also teach the average person - some people are oblivious to the rich history that leads into their laptops, notebooks, and such, and it's sad.
Jeran Ashens has a few videos on a museum that specializes in old computers. Interesting as fuck.
Jeran lok'tar ogar!
Yeah i would love to see an exhibit on old computer technology it would be very cool to see that someday
I find videos like these oddly therapeutic.
I'm glad to hear it :)
How is this comment a week old but the video just came out?
Patreon supporters get vids early
Oh cool
asmr
I have a feeling ...... a sneaking suspicion
that LGR was pranked in college by someone covering his dorm door with plastic wrap and then filling the inside with packing peanuts.
Then he opened the door.
The amount of work that went into designing these is immense!
Trust me, packing peanuts are nothing compared to that one shipment I once received. Loose styrofoam bubbles. They get everywhere, stick to everything. Even though I vacuum the room, I still found them all over the house for a week.
Also, it's sad considering how Apple changed from machines that were so easily accessible and upgradeable to stuff like the current iMacs which you practically need to perform surgery on to actually get them open.
i went to the guy who made the kits website to find that he stopped selling kits to work for Lego, i am both happy and disappointed
Я очень хорошо хотелось мне такую Олега но он нигде неправильно он наверно не делаю продаётся но он может почти продаётся правильно
This is so incredibly soothing. Thank you for this Clint! You've washed away all my stress.
I love how there is detail that you never see.
I do a lot of things where I can never see the result, so it's nice knowing there are people out there that also do things that once done will go unseen.
I didn't even have a slight thought of messing with computer parts, but these videos inspire me to be...not lazy.
James Russell no it's ok...cause I sat on my ass watching this and didn't feel like making breakfast. Success!
"Laziness is a state of mind, not necessarily a lack of action."
Did my first ever commercial programming in my first job on an Apple IIe back in the day. It was for answering 30 different phone lines and playing messages for a phone company. Had to do the whole thing in assembler to get the speed required. It was clunky, but it worked. The phone company used it for years.
This is the chillest video ever. You have a talent to be chill.
Please make more of these videos where you just ramble and do stuff, it's relaxing!
This dude is awesome, deserves way more publicity, I friggin love all the stuff he does!
You should make more Lego building videos. To be honest I enjoy hearing you speak.
Go lego building videos
70 hours a week on LGR.. the name's not exactly accurate innit? 😂
love u clint
Hasn't been accurate in many a year now :P
MinoTheShow how is this comment a week old!?
Perhaps he uploads his videos privately and exclusive to Patreon donors. The makes them public a week later?
Ahah! that must be it.
exactly.
This is fun to watch while I'm doing benchmarks on various bits of hardware... I run it on another PC while doing testing and it is nice to have playing in the background :)
yo 2 verified peeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eh, no one cares :(
Time lapse at 49:22
You definitively hit on a freak vein of ASMR material with these vids. Loved the build! And your musicalization is on point.
I should revise.... but LGR... such a good video
Love ur vids!! :D
Budget-Builds Official 8
You should make a working pc with Legos cheapest case ever
i guess I'm pretty randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream new series online ?
@Merrick Julius i use flixzone. Just google for it =)
Pro tip: when youve made the stack, lay it down and press it against the table to make all the tiny pieces align! Always works for me!
Well, I'm a bit older than you, but we had mostly Apple IIe in my school when I graduated in 93, and earlier on, I remember in my freshman year, we had a Commodore 64, too, but they got rid if it a couple of years later. Our teacher had a Macintosh 512k that she used, and once a week, one of us (via rotation) got to use it for a bit, and even play a couple of the MacVenture games on it (which first introduced me to point and click adventure games, in fact). They upgraded in 99, as I remember getting a call from my mom that they were selling off the old stuff, so I went and got a full IIe (for like 25 bucks), which I still have and use. That computer teacher is what fueled my love of computers in general. Thanks, Mrs. L.
What really works with these videos is Clint is entertaining while doing it. He talks but not in a monotone. He has things to say and doesn't drone on. It's just nice and relaxing.
Fullscreen video.
Turn on Jazz music.
Open a window on a rainy day.
Clean the room and work on projects.
Of all the pieces, I was so happy that they actually made the little cables.
I love these computer kits because they thought to include the internals of the machines as well. Really cool!
i love how your builds turn out, please do more in the future
do the history of wood grain
Short version: Vintage stuff typically had actual wood cases, sides, or accents; such as vintage hifi stereo components. Later, like everything else, cheaper was better for profit margins, so simulated wood grain had moment in history. Then people realized this was extremely tacky, kind of like avocado green appliances and orange shag carpet, so it went the into the dustbin of history...until it would be fondly remembered by vintage bloggers. :)
But moog use wood to this day.
only time you want to brick your computer.
nice pun
B A D U M T S S S S
The best thing is finding out one of my favorite youtubers (LGR) watches one of my other favorites, RCR.
Wow, the detail is spectacular! I love how it even includes the motherboard components and the labeling, I can see it being worth ~$100 to an avid collector especially with the lack of stickers. Might ask for it for my birthday!
*sees a new video from LGR* clicks on notification *sees that it is 50 min long* pauses to go get a snack and drink
Damn, that was good, thank you for posting that without a shitton of ads every 10 min. it would have ruined the flow
I watch these videos for the same reason I like to watch Bob Ross paint a picture. It probably wouldn't work as well though if it weren't for Clint's absolutely soothing voice.
Why would anyone want to skip to the fast build, it's so relaxing watching you build and talk
This is unintentional ASMR, which tends to be the best ASMR.
I'm 31, my first PC has been the Commodore 64 tape version. And that was quite late in my room. Before that I only played outside and with bricks (Lego or otherwise).
Dammit LGR , I don't have time for your wonderfully made , relaxing , ASMR-like videos -.-
3:40 You hit right on the nail there. That is literally exactly why I watched both this and the IBM PC one.
A tip from a big LEGO fan for those little 1x1 plates you dislike putting together, once you have them all stacked up, lay them down sideways on a flat surface and gently push down. That should straighten them all out. Great video though, thanks for doing more!
I watched the whole video. Can't believe I didn't watch the IBM one....gonna rectify that right now! ^__^
"here's my real computer here's my toy computer" really reminds me of Regular Car Reviews and his whole shtick of "Here's my real car here's my toy car"
Building a real working one would actually be really cool.
You can't make the Hotwheel's PC a modern PC (unless you find another shell), but you could make a modern Lego PC.
God I love watching these lego videos. You can hear all the legos clicking into the place and Clint's just talking. I couldn't figure out why I enjoyed it until it hit me. It's like watching PBS and watching Bob Ross paint putting a happy little tree over here and talking about just kind of whatever comes to mind.
The two most expensive things: Lego and Apple.
Side note: I'm typing on an iPhone 7, and it auto capitalized Apple but not Lego.
As far as I know, beige became the colour of choice because it didn't look out of place in office colour schemes of the time
I honestly couldn’t just skip to the time-lapse. I mean listening to you talk about hardware and such while building was a perfect combo 👌🏻
I love how you actually are an enthusiast about PCs instead of just the newer flashy things. Also good job on the vid never would have seen Lego and pc in the same sentence👍
best computer build on YT. 10/10 would recommend
Dubsfish 10/10 IGN
"Fingers are weird when you look at then"
-LGR 2017
Very chill, entertaining video, thanks LGR! I've actually been binge watching you for a couple days now since I've been in ICU, you and some other great CZcamsrs have been managing to keep my morale up.
Videos like this one make sleeping in so easy. Such a soothing, nice voice without any overly loud noise.
i have a tip for those 1x1 squares if you press them against the table they should be straight
I'm 32 this year, and I"m pretty sure the first computer I had contact with was an Apple 2 in Elementary school also. I think it would be awesome to visit a tech museum, or an Oddware display.
The LGR Apple II system review episode has been like my #1 most wanted vid ever since I found this channel a couple years ago and had the time of my life watching the system reviews, so hearing that you have plans to cover it is like candy to me. I'm about the same age as you (well, 30 next year) but I don't think I even saw an Apple II as a kid. Probably because I'm from Europe and the Apple II was more prevalent over there stateside. Our school just had a 386 pc. Still, I've come to love the system..
I only watched the ending of the IBM build vid, but after watching this whole, I'll probably have to watch it too. Super relaxing watch.
That is some GREAT trio music during the time lapse portion Clint!!! Thanks for always being so tasteful and entertaining:)
Contact the Living Computer Museum in Seattle. They may be willing to show off some of your collection. :)
good bob ross feel
turn 27 this year and my guilty pleasure is still building k'nex sets. Just build one on mothers day, which sadly is the first one in a few years, but man it was satisfying! The roller coaster sets are always my favorite. Glad to see i'm not the only one who still enjoys legos, k'nex etc etc. Always enjoy the videos Clint!
I never really been a PC gamer but I enjoy your channel and learning things about old PC games. On that note Im pretty sure my school still had Apple II's that we learned on even in the late 90's early 2000's
My older brother programmed asteriods on my dad's apple II. He copied it from a magazine.
my older brother did this too, but it was for C64.
Talk about bricking your PC!
I wasnt going to watch the whole 50 minutes but it was just nice and relaxing!
Lego is so cool
I know this is old, but I've been having trouble with my mental health lately and watching these vids (and Blerb vids) has really been helping me out. Someone once referred to Clint as the "Bob Ross of computers" and it's an apt comparison.
It's not that expensive, Lego would probably charge $60 for it if they made it and they already have the tooling and factory.
Anyone else remember when he still went by Phreakindee?
Something about watching random pieces of plastic go together and become something cool is somewhat appealing. Add LGRs facts and bants into the mix and you got a great video.
My brother and I freaking love the oddware videos. If there was an oddware museum nearby, I'd totally go. I think it's a great idea, but you're right. Setting them up and keeping them that way would probably take a lot of time/energy. I know there may never be an oddware museum, but please keep making the oddware videos! It's rare to find something both interesting and hilarious to watch, and your oddware videos usually pull that off. Thanks LGR!
Yes, do a lego rock raiders video. Nostalgia! Like geology, lego and video games, such a cool combo.
Who stayed for the whole build?
Every time you make one of these videos, one of those people who make relaxation CDs goes out of business.
I was just reminding myself I have to buy this very kit sometime soon.
Also I would totally buy the set with the desk and office chair if he ever makes them available again.
I kinda want to make one of these with a pi zero in it to actually emulate an Apple II. Wizardry here i come!
Would it then be an Apple Pi?
Nathan Snitko I did that with the nes kit, I have a Pi 0w in there with retro pi. Unfortunately to make the pi fit I had to rip out most of the internal detailing that you would never see but is still cool to have
There are cards to plug in raspberry pi's to actual apple ii's...
Awwww, it's so cute...
This was actually quite entertaining. Just listening to you talk while building was quite soothing!
I just love you rambling on and listening to this while I am working :)
100 bucks plus shipping. gotta be kidding!
Where was that missing piece? I must know!
On my lap, haha
You forgot to put that little piece on top of that missing grey piece, drives me crazy... the build is not complete
What were the extra pieces for though?! I must know where they belong!
PassiveDestroyer those are just extra. Lego city sets have extra pieces. I could never figure out why they did that.
They probably did it in case the pieces got lost somehow.
very happy to see another one of these Lego builds. I'm 42 an we used apple at my school as well with some kind of Lemonade stand game.
This video was the perfect thing to be playing in the background while I study for state tests and college entry assessments. It's a little less distracting and a lot less intense than the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
You should look into getting into the ASMR community. You'd probably explode in viewership.
I listen to ASMR all the time when I want to relax, but it's not something I'm interested in creating myself.
Meow Tow haha I just looked at the comments to see how far down I would go before ASMR. not disappointed
The viewership would probably "explode" in their own way- after all, isn't that the whole point of ASMR? :^)
Robin Wilson asmr is supposed to be relaxing not like those soft porn channels that call then selves asmr channels
what's ASMR?
haha it wasn't actually beige, originally white until everyone around that time period smoked around it :P jk
I thought they were beige to fit in with the office setting in 1977. Also the colour made it hard to notice any dust
Hey Clint, here's a tip if you ever have to stack a whole bunch of these 1 x 1 plates: take the finished stack and lay it sideways on a flat surface. Then press down on it with any rigid, flat thing you can find, like one fo these flat 1 x 6 plates with no studs on top. The stack will be perfectly aligned.
Nice tip, thanks!
I really sat here and watched the entire thing. Only LGR makes me care somehow. He's just so relaxed, and casual. A wealth of knowledge, but never takes himself seriously.
i'm 10 years old and i actually like this kind of music
Watch out, the internet is a dangerous place
Josie Thompson music? What
46:03 - Hey LGR, in future vids if you end up finding pieces you thought weren't included I would dub over the bits you were complaining. Normally it's not that big of a deal in such a casual/off-the-cuff style video like this, but because somebody's small business is at stake I think it matters more. Don't get me wrong, if a piece was not included you should definitely tell us, and you don't have to cut out parts where you're frustrated (that's part of the Lego building experience!), just find a way to let people know ahead of time when you're wrong. As it stands if someone exits the video before you find the piece it unnecessarily harms the reputation of the seller.
Anyway, hope to see more vids like this in the future! They're very relaxing. :D
Man oh man. An Apple IIe was my first computer - I'm 32, and my dad bought it just before I was born so I grew up with that thing. Love this kit.
You really can't compare the "hackability" of the Apple II with anything else of its era - not only is it easy to get into, but simple and well-documented enough that you could pretty easily hack together your own cards or peripherals if you were so inclined.
The PET wasn't nearly as "open" in that way, to my understanding. Sure, you can open one up, but there's not really much you can do inside except admire the giant honkin' power supply.
I watched the whole thing. Your commentary is why I watch ANY of your videos. Cool stuff. I dig it.
sadly this guy works at lego now and you can't buy these
i really like you 😨😘💋👨❤️💋👨❣️
Awesome. My first computer as well! Im 33, so we seem to have experienced and grown up with the same boxes. Our family had the 2GS, then a 386, then 486 during my childhood. Awesome addition to your collection, def. worth the hundred bucks.
Oh yeah, I remember the Apple II being in schools. I also remember when they got replaced with a bunch of iMac G3's. Alllll the rainbow colors.
finally an Apple product that does not cost 1.1 million dollar s (hate me, COME AT ME cuz idc)
My elementary had a fleet of Apple IIc boxes, when they got colorful iMacs and iBooks the kindergartners and first graders were stuck with the old apple crap. Also nice RCR reference
I sat and watched 2 and a half hours of someone recabling a network in an office last night, 50 minutes of you building Lego? easy peasy :)
Thank you SO MUCH for building this Lego APPLE II computer Clint, I love your channel and show! I have tweeted on your twitter page back in about building this one or the APPLE Macintosh back several months ago after seeing the video of you building the Lego IBM PC.
One of the best relaxing videos after a hard days work and putting the children to bed. I love the voice of this man! Thank you for doing this!
Your videos are the best companion to play while I work! Keep it up.
Thanks for going to all that effort to set up the camera and talk thru the whole build. I really enjoyed it.
That was very relaxing to watch!
re: where to put the cables, and I know you didn't ask and probably don't want viewer opinions on it, but my ~guess~ would be the monitor's cable plugs into the port corresponding with the longest expansion card.
