SsangYong Tivoli (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

  • SsangYong Tivoli looks like a lovechild of Nissan Juke and KIA Soul. Both cars have bold, yet questionable looks. The Tivoli is slightly bigger, than the other two. The name Tivoli was derived from an Italian town, but rumour has its someone liked the fact that Tivoli backwards spells "I lov it".

Thanks Marek - I think this is one of the most in-depth reviews on the web for this vehicle. I spent 4 hours examining the Tivolis and Korandos last weekend. I am definitely ordering the diesel Tivoli. Other than those ridiculous map strings at the back, it is an awesomely clever car with a great interior and nice curves on the outside. At the moment theres also a special offer in the UK to upgrade from the entry level model to the mid range model at no extra cost. This should be a no-brainer for anyone interested in a crossover SUV. Yes, ILOVIT !!

Looked at buying an almost new Tivoli SE 1.6 Petrol for my lad. At £12,000 in metallic blue with a superb 5 year warranty , I thought it would be perfect for his needs. Sadly he thought it wasn't as kewl as Qashqai or Sportage so he knocked it on the head. Shame really. I think it's a cracking car for the money...

I like front and side styling, the rear not so much. I would consider it if I were looking into a b-segment crossover on a budget, probably a good alternative to a Dacia Duster. I like the interior with the exception of the climate control displays and especially the infotainment display, they look very cheap and the software looks like something I'd expect to see in an aftermarket Kenwood system fitted into an old car..I have the same problem with Kia's system.

In India, we have an auto manufacture called Mahindra & Mahindra. They just brought some stocks in Ssangyoung which get them the license to modify and sell the car in India. The catch is, they took the 1st gen 2015 Tovoli, modified it.. rightly said removed all the luxury features of Tivoli, trimmed the boot area to fit the 4mtr tax standard, rebuild (copied original engine and technology) the small engine, added some new lights and changed the bonnet, and now they are selling it as XUV300 as a car from future. The problem is they are selling the top spec of XUV300 same cost as the new generation Tivoli in Europe. Also they are trying to convince people that except the platform and body, rest all car designed and manufactured by Mahindra. At least you guys are lucky to get the extremely unnecessary HDMI port!!!

I did watch both your videos of the two Tivoli's and to be honest I much prefer the preface lifted car, one of the main reasons is the HDMI port, the face lifted car cannot use Android Auto or Apple Carplay so using this sort of system on the preface lifted Tivoli makes sense slighty...

I agree with your point. Although SUV isn't really my thing, well atleast as a uni student for the time being, if I was on a budget and needed a family car, I'd give Hyundai or Kia a try in the budget segment, SsangYong has got some room for improvement. And if premium brands, I'm sure you can't go wrong with Audi Q3 or the very new X1 which we'll be waiting for you to review.
