  • In this video, we will learn how to use smart keynotes. This is something I call them due to how they operate with schedules and throughout your project. I enjoy them for how easy they are to use once you set them up.
    Please leave comments and questions below and I will get back to you!

    This was a life saver for me! My firm is switching over to revit and I am required to teach myself. Could not figure out keynotes for the life of me and other tutorials were not nearly as helpful!

      Glad it helped! Do note that this is not the "traditional" built into Revit keynote. This is a different custom (also easier) version of Revit's true keynotes.

      It really is. This avoids the true keynote system but for something quick and easy it is nice.

      This was great way to get through our project with limited time as it is quick and simple but......reminds me of autocad (this seems similar to dummy text as stated earlier). Be careful using this system as it can be inconsistent if not paying attention.

    EXACTLY what I was looking for! Only question, is there any way to add the circle around the number on the schedule??

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před 3 lety

      That's awesome, glad to hear it! I have had people in my office ask the same thing. You are able to add an image into your schedule which would be the circle indicating the keynote but that might be a pain lol.

  • @matt_flanders

    We do basically the same thing for our keynotes except we filter by sheet number instead of a view type. The issue that has come up again and again over the years is that it is a pain to modify the text of a note that has a bunch of text (several sentences), the small line in the schedule makes it tough to find something in the middle of the note text and edit it. Do you have any suggestions to combat that issue? You can't stretch the boundary of the schedule because it effects how it looks on the sheet. In the past we have created "designer" versions of the schedules that have the text column stretched out and that helps a little but created double the number of schedules. We have tried to link to excel and modify the text in the spreadsheet but that is clunky and had issues as well.

    I like this concept for keynoting, thanks for the tip. Would it be possible to do this same concept with a multi-category tag? Think bill of material list per page with the filter being by sheet number. I think the key is getting that parameter into the multi-category family, but I haven't figure that out yet. Thanks for all the hard work creating these videos!

      Thanks so much, Mike! I actually have not pursed a multi-category tag. Just thinking about it, I feel like it should be possible. I will have to look into this for a video.

    Any suggestions on tags that keep code and number of elements? For example in a structural floor plan a tag that displays the element type and individual number for hollow core decks?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před 2 lety

      Sounds to me like you would want to use a floor tag that reads from they type information of a floor. The info you laid out would be in the type and display in the tag.

    Hi , have a doubt regarding text height .. as in autodesk they mentioned text height (annotation element) is relative to scale of view ,it should work(maximise & minimise) bassed on scale vary but for some scales its not working like that...for example text height is 2.5mm for scale 1:50 &1:25 it will work nice but for 1:100 & 1:200 text look bigger in view ,so any option is there to set same text height for any scale ?

    Would you happen to have a video on how to assign keynotes or tags to specific components or detail lines? for instance, the AHJ I work with always requires that a furnace have a certain building code referenced in the keynote. Is it possible to edit the family of the component so that the tag and keynote is built in? that way i can just go through the model and tag the different components. Is this possible?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před rokem

      In general, if you want to make potions of your families taggable, then you need to select the shared parameter in the family. This will allow you to tag individual elements. From there you can make a tag that would be catered to this specific instance for the AHJ.

  • @algalkin

    I guess it wont work well when I have 40 floor plans multiplied by three categories, managing 120 sheet notes schedules would be such a pain. Would you recommend doing the keynotes with text file for that situation?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před 2 lety +1

      In that situation, it might be. The tags would work all the same regardless but yes just more to manage. Probably easier to manage just the text file in that case.

    Considering using keynotes, but the notes need to be wrapped in details, is this possible?

  • @bnmporvida6138
    @bnmporvida6138 Před rokem

    IN CAD.....I MADE A VISIBILITY BLOCK.....INSIDE THIS BLOCK WAS 200 KEYNOTES FROM 1 TO 200.....U SELECT THE NUMBER U WANT THEN IS SHOWS UP......U NEED ANOTHER, COPY THAT ONE DOWN AND DO IT AGAIN. Now Revit on the other hand, not so easy to customize.....so i am applying the same method i did in cad into revit using the Annotation Family.....just started this today.....in the end.....that family would have that lookup list showing the listed keynotes......i hope this idea pans out.......the draw back is creating that initial state for that one keynote TIMES 200 or so......but it will save time in the long run

    Many Thanks, I have petition and idea if could be possible.
    Petition
    if you could do a tutorial of how to parameterize the key note/label to detect the scale? yo mentioned in the 5 min of your video and I am interested in learning how to do it.
    The idea
    instate of creating a the last parameter in your key note that must be "manually type", could it be possible to create a parameter that is attached to a view parameter like the "View Name"? will be automatically, you will have full control of where the notes are, and you are eliminating a step for the user.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před 3 lety

      Interesting idea! I will have to look into that. That seems like it might work or at least something like it I would think.

  • @Tunakens

    How is this better than regular tags or Keynote tags? I really want to know, cause I dont se any advantage in your method. It actually looks very inneficient for large proyects. (Im not trying to be an ass, Im just asking)

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Před 8 měsíci +1

      This is basically another version of a tag, just specific to how you want to use it. The implication here is that you don't want to or don't know how to mess with actual keynotes. I will agree with you that it is not necessarily better than alternatives. It's more that it is easy to pick up and intuitive enough to use while also having a smart element. Like anything else, there are 100+ ways to do something in Revit whether we think it's the best method or not.
