See. An actual sea shanty would not have instroments. They were work songs. Ment to be sang as a crew worked. By that crew to help keep pace. Stomping and banging of work tools sure. But idle hands playing musical insroments were wastes on ships. That was all saved for after the work day. However with the addition of being after work and using instroments they were no longer shantys. Because a shanty as stated did not have any music other than stamping or the bang or knock of a work tool. It is still however a good song and good adaptation of the adaptation of the original song.

Yet I cant agree based off the facts of the spesific type of song in question. And that is also the main phrase. Shantys are songs. Not music.

I‘m a storyteller and you just gave me a story.
Whenever I listen to the Nathen evens and Santino version of this song, I always see a ship full of raggity sailers, and Nathan is the skinny cabin boy who spends to much time with his accordion. The only song he knows how to play is the Wellerman, but he loves that song with all his heart and soul. One day they all go ashore and Nathan, accordion in hand, walks into a bar, and hears some fair voice singing the same song. It’s the local flirt and performer Shanna. She broken more hearts than she has sung songs. Nathan hears her singing for the men in the bar and sees her dancing a top a table. He picks up his accordian and begins to play along to her beautiful voice. Shanna searches for the source of her accompaniment in the crowd of big and burly seamen and her Irish green eyes land on a skinny and short cabin boy with a smile a mile wide.
Will he be the one that Shanna truely falls in love with? Or will Nathan return to sea with a broken heart and a hatred for the Wellerman?
I know, it’s totally cliche. But I like to tell a good old cliche every once in a while.

At first I didn’t really like the staccato type thing when she said tea and rum just because it was different to the others I’ve heard but by the 2nd or 3rd time listening I got used to it and liked it now I think I have an obsession with this song and I really like the accent and instruments at the beginning you did an amazing job it is beautiful 💖
