This was awesome!!! My son and his family lived in Chiang Mai for 10 years and my grand-daughter went to school there. Thailand looks like a paradise on earth!
🙏😊✊🇹🇭
Cracking! This sums it up for me. Roddy hits it on the nail. I loath the cold too! My aches and pains disappear when I'm in Thailand. I can't retire soon enough. Thanks, Ryan. I'm looking forward to Pai.
Cheers Paul 🙏✊🇹🇭
I loved the interview with your friend who i have listened to thousands of times not knowing it was him .
Thanks Geoffrey 🙏😊✊🇹🇭
The beauty between the bumps, the living right through the lumps; the life is thrilling, and down in the dumps. Enjoy your travels!
Love the content, your top tip is sadly true, too many tragic story's of lives cut short in paradise! One thing I love about Thailand is that it reminds me of my childhood in the UK in the 70's (endless summers and freedom) before the rise of Health and safety culture but it does mean you need eyes in the back of your head! I really enjoyed my travels in Chiang Mai and up into the mountains, first time I ever felt chilly in Thailand :) Seem to be less mosquitoes too!!! Keep on having fun and sharing your experiences, good stuff.
Thank you 🙏🙏
There are some legends roaming these lands and this gentleman is definitely one of them! ✌
Amen 🙏✊🇹🇭
also i do love watching your life in Thailand its great to see another side to living
Thank you 🙏
You are so respectful Ryan. It's really nice to see how you treat people such as Roddy. Safe driving to you, I'll keep watching.
Thanks Timothy 🙏🙏
Wow! What a great vlog with some amazing sounds as well. I loved the interview with Roddie Lorimer, and hope that someday he will write an autobiography of his fantastic life. I always think that session musicians who play with the great artists are the unsung heroes of the music industry. God bless you Ryan (and family of course) and keep you safe on your travels. 🙂
Me too! 🙏✊😊
You tell how good that guy plays the trumpet...but for you to play music with them you are pretty good yourself.
🙏😊✊
I watched the Blur video and listened to Roddy playing his trumpet. Wow, so amazing!
Cheers Scott 🙏
What a fascinating guy! Thanks so much for capturing this!
Thank you 🙏
Great interview with a very interesting gentleman.
Thanks Peter 🙏🙏
Such a thrill to see you interview Roddy, (when he speaks of The Who and Tommy, gives me goosebumps, played that album 1000's of times!! 😊) You are really so good at what you do! A good interviewer is a good listener too!! 🙏❤️
I had to come back and say I listened to Layla and watched Roddy's trumpet solo.....Brilliant, amazing and so reminded me of how much I enjoyed listening to Eric Clapton....all of the music I followed in my heyday!! 👍👌 (Still listen...)
Thank you Magee 🙏🙏
Thanks for this nice video, well done. And so good to see Roddy! 👍🤠👍
Loved this episode! We finally made it back out to beautiful Chiang Mai in Feb/March. It was fabulous 😊we did the Mae Hang Son loop on motorbikes and also stopped off in wonderful Pai. Love the Vlogs Ryan and I’ve now got my 86 year old Mum enjoying them too! She keeps saying “what a beautiful child” every time Tis comes on 😀
Glad you made it back Dawn 🙏🙏
As always, entertaining and interesting vlog. You must have felt privileged to have known Roddy. He's an all round genius in his field. 🙏
Wowww - Roddy sure has played with some of the big leagues! Thanks for sharing this video and for the tips on the first year living in Thailand Ryan! (Not to mention your amazing journey heading up to Pai)
Thank you and big love Marietta 🙏❤️
Meeting old friends is such a joy to our heart
🙏❤️
Great Video Ryan! My favourite part of Thailand. I love Chiang Mai. Spent a lot of time up there in the past. Roddy was so interesting. To hear his comments were excellent, and I'm with him, I'm a big fan of The Who. Looking forward to the next video in Pai. Another of my favourite places in Thailand 👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing some of Roddy’s story. Another fascinating vlog. Love ‘travelling’ with you. Great Layla video. Yes, we can overlook the incredible contribution of the session musicians. All those stages, locations!!
🙏✊😊🇹🇭
Great interview with Roddy! Thank you! Love your videos.

Absolutely wonderful!
Great video, loved the scenery and the interview, take care out there.

This is brilliant… again, but Roddy is one beautiful player and his vocals… it’s like Steely Dan kind of vibe, what a pleasure to listen to
Thanks Ryan, much love and respect to you 🙏🙏❤️
Thank you Shannon - big love brother 🙏❤️✊
Loved the music at 8 13 so calming 😌
Love your traveling with Betty Blue to Chiang Mai and stopping on the way at Lopburi and Lampang (what a lovely hotel.). Thanks for interviewing your friend Roddy. Wow! As a Thai, I am so proud he chose to settle down in Thailand. Look forward to your next video to Pai.
Thank you 🙏😊✊
Wow nice long clear roads on your long journey, well a charming video with two charming souls , hard to find the correct song but this is the one I think it fits = (That’s what friends are for = Chad Stuart, J. Pat O’Malley )
🙏✊😊🇹🇭
So awesome! His daugher was in may class a few years ago. She was and is amazing! I see where she gets it!
🙏😊🇹🇭✊
Hey everyone - appreciate any sharing of this video and thanks for your continued support of the content. Here is Roddy playing with Clapton in Hyde Park (on trumpet of course) - czcams.com/video/FrtfZVDWC5k/video.html

Great Music, great vlog!
Thank you 🙏
That was truly trumpettly amazing, thank you.
Thank you 🙏😊🇹🇭
Excellent vlog Ryan - what a legend Roddy is!
Cheers Andrew 🙏
Awesome tip, being alive while in Thailand is preferable for sure! Great video Ryan.
Thanks Joe 🙏😊✊🇹🇭
Thanks so much for this. One of my favorite things is the artists and talents that make up the backdrop of music that shaped us in one way or another. As a musician who played backing and did backing vocals for some stuff I have a deep appreciation for the talent, effort and skill that support so much of what we know.
Amen brother 🙏✊
Top tips mate! 🙏
I watch a few different expat vloggers and you're good at keeping it real.
Saddly and somehow oddly there's a darker side of demise that happens here far too often to too many farangs. Suicide.
It's shocking how many that chose to end it here...!?
On a cheerful note jam on! Nothing better than listening to music and connecting with old friends on a road trip.
Cheers to staying alive.
🙏
That’s right brother 🙏✊🇹🇭
A real masterpiece ! Thank you.
Thanks Barry 🙏🙏
very interesting love the fact that rock and roll afternoon tea
🙌🎺🙏✊
Hiya. I Like Roddy's music. Old 70's horror movie. 😁I had a friend going to going to the mountains. The van he was traveling in. He had a terrible crash and he was so remote. He had weeks without pain relief and not being able to move. Luckily he survived to tell his story. Nice road trip. Thank you for sharing. Have a lovely weekend
You too nIcky! Sorry about your friend but lucky he survived, it is a crazy road! Ryan
I have known Roddy for most of his 15 years here in CM. A true gent! I knew he played with some top bands but didn't know he'd played with such a wide range! Enjoyable video. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏😊
Nice one ryan your friend is a Legend 👍👌🤝
Thank you 🙏
A great episode of travel and friendship.
Thanks Edward 🙏
Hi Ryan, that old 70 movie is Texas chain saw massacre and I happen to live across the street from it. It always packed with crazy people like me. Great video mate.
Haha what a place to live brother 🙏😁
I like this song .reminds me of the music when I was younger..
🙏✊❤️🇹🇭
What a wonderful and talented man.
Great vlog mate
Thanks David 🙏
Great video Ryan! Good you got to catch up with my old man. Miss those days in saxophone bar, felt like I had not care or worry in the world back in those days! Hope you are well!
Hey Matt - you too brother and glad you enjoyed this 🙏😊🇹🇭
The “Cus diamato” of the trumpet. I see a spark, I feed that spark till it becomes a flame, I feed that flame till becomes a fire, then I pore logs on it, then we have a blaze
Try not to die, great advice. It never ceases to amaze me the people who have never ridden a motorbike in their life and they arrive in Thailand and they suddenly think they are Valentino Rossi. If you have never ridden at home you probably should not abroad.
Definitely needs to be said 🙏✊
Great video
Thanks Billy 🙏
I've been waiting for the new video. Lol. I love jazz!
🙏😊✊🇹🇭
Awesome video Ryan. I grew up with all those bands and music. He sure can play. Why retire keep playing even if it's in a small pub.
Thank you 🙏
Spooky, spooky petrol station. The area around River Lodge has beautiful views. Like it very much. Safe drive, Ryan, sir.
🙏😊🇹🇭
ChangMai is a beautiful place...especially outside of the tourist areas. Thanks for sharing. Interested to know how Roddy ended up there.
Thanks for watching 🙏
The music was great ty.
Thank you 🙏✊
Glad you survived the spooky petrol station!
😂😂😂
Just brilliant....Jeff
Cheers Jeff 🙏🙏
Oh my god, this is definitely a realm of heaven.
Hey Ryan and Roddy, a very nice video and a wonderful time spent with an old friend. Makes me regret that I didn't stick with my love for music. It seems that life gets in the way sometimes and the baggage that comes with it. It drags you down and you feel like you have to take on more baggage and one day you wake-up and you're an old man and everything you wanted is just memories.
Depressing but true. Thanks for sharing your friend with us.
Cheers Brock 🙏😊✊
Very interesting story.
🙏🙏🙏
Funny funny the gas station story …pity I could not hear properly your friend interview some kind of sound issue ..anyhow Thank You ⚜️🌸🌺From Chiang Mai
Wonderful Ryan! I had the privilege of jamming with you and Roddy a few years back down here in Phuket (Bill Baileys?). Still doing it.
Hey Tony! 🙏😊🇹🇭
Very interesting
Cheers Steven 🙏🙏
Beautiful, I loved that. Thank you
🙏😊🇹🇭
Great music!
Cheers Eric ✊🙏
Pretty sure I have met Roddy in khonkaen when he visited a few times, One time he got up with his trumpet and played with the band below the Pullman.
very talented musician.
🙏✊😊🇹🇭
Hey brother, i'd love to know how you learned Thai. I am so impressed and will be working to get to your level. Thanks :)
I met bumblefoot in Pattaya on walking street.
I totally thought about Texas chain saw massacre when you stopped at that gas station.
Right! Was just like it!
Excellent.
Thank you Michael 🙏
I knew fellow Scotsman Roddy was exceptionally talented from the time he was playing at the Saxophone Lounge in Hua Hin, but I didn't realize the extent of his experience with all these top musicians and the song he wrote about his future death was very impressive too. Have you seen the 2014 movie "Whiplash"?
Hey brother - yes it’s pretty epic Roddys career! And whiplash is one of my top movies ✊😁
What a great story Your guest Roddy has , he’s played for some of the great bands and artists incredible life he must have , my claim to fame was at the reading festival in 1973 I sneaked back stage were the some members of the bands that played were hanging out there were caravans on site and i stud in front of one then I felt thud in my back and seen this guy on the grass behind me I helped him to his feet and had to take a second look at him all around people shouting Keith are all right it was only Keith Moon then next thing the half bottle of spirits we was drinking went through the caravan window of the record company who were recording there I scarpered quickly as I wasn’t supposed to be there , true story Ryan that’s my claim to fame
Thanks David! 🙏
Works like the air conn on a boat
Oh by the way good music great journey what more could one ask for only 👪
Thank you 🙏
try not to die in the beginning i like that guru its so true that people get carried away with the excitement of Thailand when your new to it, i'v known i couple that went both through boozing and driving on motorbikes.
That’s the story 🙏🙏
I have a ‘Thailand tattoo’ from a motorcycle accident however I followed my elders advice. Didn’t have police involved, Do not drink and drive, ever, and be very careful of other drivers, be safe, I seen so many accidents, almost had a bad one avoiding a dog in the rain, I was told by Thai people, “don’t break for a dog or you will have accident” So I thought about it, always wore my helmet, and slowed down !
By the way Brian Johnson from AC/DC was from my home town
Thanks for that. I always try not to die 😂
Good practice 🙏✊😊
You are certainly correct , re accidents and over indulgence, some people when there leave there home country, they also leave there brains behind,
🙏✊🇹🇭😊
Hello Ryan always look forward to your blog and another great one as usual, what would you say is a reasonable amount to retire in Thailand, don’t drink or Smoke
Perhaps enough for 40,000 per month with a couple million baht in the bank for back up 🙏😊
@@lifeinruralthailand ok thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Great video and interesting interview with Mr Lorimer, I'm a recent subscriber want to learn about Thai culture in general, keep up the great work👌...one question, are Buddhist people vegetarian in keeping with their seemly peaceful nature or do they eat pig, rabbit or chicken (ie kill for food) that is one question I'm curious about🤔
Beautiful...😍😍
🙏🙏🙏
Awesome
Thank you 🙏
@@lifeinruralthailand your welcome. Really enjoy your videos I too have a Thia missus. She lives with me in Australia. Looking forward to returning to Thailand.
I Enjoyed that Ryan.
Thank you 🙏
Brilliant......
Thanks Darren 🙏🙏
That first hotel was definitely not worth the 450 baht price. I bet if the missus had been with you, you wouldn't have paid that! 😄
Agree 🙏✊😊
💚
hello , great video but where do yoy live in thailand ?
Buriram 🙏
What a fantastic interview with an amazing and accomplished gentleman. Puts a nice perspective on things. Thanks Ryan
Thanks David 🙏
👍😎❤
🙏✊😊
Paul will u stop saying your drinking days bud and say when I owned a bar that man is a true legend 👏 some of the names he worked with amazing couldn't help smile when he said boyzone and spice girls though
My alcoholic days then 🙏✊😊
OK sound 👌 ha ha ha

The who...Sir sabaidee..from Ohio...wow...
🙏✊😊🇹🇭
An interesting character who, like me, cannot operate in cold climates.
Tell your wife happy mother's day
🙏❤️
Crazy....Amongst others in the subtitles? Jesus or better yet Oh my Buddha!
What a great interview. So jealous.
Planing 2 live in Thailand long term??? Quick tip , "try not 2 die" 🤣🤣
Exactly 🙏😊✊
Obviously if someone comes to Thailand, gets wasted, opens their mouth, acts like an ass, they will have TROUBLES. Same in any Country. Same for acting/driving/riding like a jackass on the roads. BUT...if you come to Thailand and smile, are courteous. and drive/ride responsibly, everything will be 100% fine. I've traveled to Thailand 4 times. Bangkok, Islands, River Kwai area, Phuket and way up-out East.....NEVER HAD TROUBLE.... LAND OF SMILES!!!.....AND I've never had an impression of a threat or danger. Off the beaten path you do find very quiet businesses/gas stations, etc... I've found the Thai's in every such location to be friendly and hospitable.
Agreed 🙏😊✊🇹🇭
@@lifeinruralthailand I did not mean to argue with your comments, but I think they needed context and frankly, another perspective. BUT you have been there 15 years...and are the Expert Expat
Oh I agree with your comments, but I’ve had friend that were mowed down on a bike or hit a soi dog in the road so it was really just bad luck because of danger. Also Thailand has the second highest per capita American tourists killed in the world next to Pakistan which has the most. 2016 data.
