- This year it appears that the smokey season in Chiang Mai Thailand is early! See for yourself in this episode. We also take a look at a unique mall called Pantip Plaza Chiang Mai (ศูนย์การค้าพันธุ์ทิพย์ เชียงใหม่) and check out the last meal in Chiang Mai for my guests at The Terracotta Garden at Lamphun (สวนไม้ไทยบ้านพ่อเลี้ยงหมื่น)

Thank you for the video.
They need to adopt biochar tech like in the documentary "The Need To Grow".
I see the lakes rivers are very polluted. The smoke season is scary.
I've been predicting this year will be terrible because it was especially mild last year and then followed by heavy rains which lasted longer than usual. That adds up to more fuel to burn and more eager people who missed their chance last year. Best move is to the leave the north and find a spot somewhere near the ocean.
Well, it definitely has an early start. 🇹🇭😊👍
Another Great vlog. Always watching from Australia 🇦🇺..
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!! 🇹🇭😊🙏👍❤️
Last month I stop at that mall. I was in Chiang Mai for two days and it was not enough time.
Been watching your channel for a while and recently arrived to Chiang Mai. While watching this video, I've just realized that I've been riding on the same road everyday (the road at the beginning of your video). How crazy is this!
Small world! 😄
I've never been to the Chiang Man Pantip Plaza, but back in the late '90s I used to frequent the Pantip Plaza in Bangkok for the inexpensive software ...
In 2020, it was quite smokey in January. First sniff of forest burning was on Christmas Eve 2019. Towards the end of the season, poachers burn Doi Suthep and surrounding areas in order to harvest mushrooms, which are then sold to the Chinese merchants.
Good time to head to the beach!
I arrive in 4 weeks to Chiang Mai. Get all that burning done by that time. Please and thank you 😁
I would usually head down to Phuket during burning season. Sometimes I would just check out altogether and go to Penang for a few months. I don't have asthma or respiratory issues other than my sinuses blocking up. It would drive me nuts.
We were told about Pantip Plaza in 2009, when we first arrived and was looking for a place to unlock an older cell phone to use in case of an emergency. I was definitely like a kid in a candy store!! We went back on several occasions just to walk around. Even went back in 2010 on our second trip. Looks about the same now as it did then, except for the outside signage. There were lots of vacancies in 2009 and 2010. What surprised me back then was how much more expensive the computers and digital cameras were…more expensive than here in the U.S.
Still is. All the brand stuff is much cheaper in the West, from washing machines to TV's to mobiles, or even worse, cars. If anything's cheap, it's online merch from China, you can get that stuff in the West shipped from China as well for the same price. For hardware, Thailand's no place to find value.
Hopefully it finishes a month earlier, joys of a couple of months of smoke
😊👍🇹🇭😶🌫️
Adding to the smoke are people who go into the mountains and burn the undergrowth looking for certain mushrooms..but..all in all, not too bad, depends on the wind currents also…here’s to CM and environs 🙏🏻🇹🇭
If I were you, I would just leave during smoky season. It's so cheap to travel inside of Thailand. Take a flight down to the islands maybe...anyway, love ur videos, they bring back fond memories of Chiang Mai. One day I'll get to retire there with ya
We actually did that last year in March.
Hi, enjoying your channel, especially the experiences of living in Thailand and what to expect. Really good. We’re up there in April just after Songkran. We’d heard that the burning stops around then and it should start clearing. Could you let us know what to expect?
My son came last year at that exact time. It’s still a little smoky at that time, and I think a week after they arrived it got better.
@@TheNarrowGate thanks for getting back. Much appreciated 😁
Wow. Well, I'll be in Bangkok/Pattaya/Jomtien area all of March and April, and moving to Chiang Mai in May to celebrate my 40th birthday and stay there during my year long extreme weight loss journey. Hopefully by May the smoke is gone
It is. You are safe. 😎👍
@@TheNarrowGate Yyeesss!!! When I get to Chiang Mai, you get a lunch on me!
Awesome, thank you! 🙏🏻🇹🇭😊
Do you think I should cancel my trip to Thailand for next month? I was really hoping to stay in Chang Mai for 2 weeks in mid February.
It depends... Do you have pre existing conditions that would be affected by the smoke? If not, you should be fine but you may not see the pretty sky or mountains very well.
@@TheNarrowGate no I don't have pre existing conditions but I care about my health quite a bit, I've always heard that February isn't usually bad for smoke but it seems to be different this year
@@LincolnClay98 Perhaps, just hang out in Krabi? Or, get used to 2nd hand smoke. ;)
Would somewhere like the Doi Inthanon National Park be affected?
Absolutely 💯
What month does it end ?
Mid to late April.
Pantip Plaza is a desolate place, for electronics I go to Icon despite being just a couple of minutes away from Pantip.
Global Travel Mate's video shows how quickly it's got really bad 😒
Why don’t they pay the farmers for not burning and avoid the terrible reputation Chiangmai gets from burning season? Doesn’t make any sense even from an economic perspective or does it? I just don’t get it.
Part of the problem is that some of the smoke comes from neighboring countries that Thailand has no control over. I don’t think they’re ever going to get a fix for it.
This sucks. I'm coming in march

Chicken nuggets ?? Omg how boring …. No taste for international foods, just stay home
We have plenty of taste for international foods - been all over the world. But, when you’re sick and worn out from a long trip, it’s sometimes nice to have a taste of home comfort food.
