  • This is an old wood chipper from back before they put safety stops on these things. Definitely something you want to watch yourself around. They call these "Chuck and Duck" wood chippers because you don't want to be in-between the wood and the chipper when it starts to pull the wood into the chipper.

    I would agree with other comments suggesting that the knives are dull. It should not be that hard to get a limb to catch. If or when you get your knives sharpened, make sure that they come back the same "width", as you don't want longer knives taking bigger bites and shorter knives taking smaller bites (hard on the knives).
    0:36 I would suggest that the wood chips should be coming out with much more force. I would suggest running the chipper at a higher ROM.
    0:50 I would suggest that the chips should be much smaller. The wood chips that were just ejected seem far too big. There is a metal plate below the drum meant to limit the size of the wood chips coming out. I believe that it needs to be closer to the drum.
    Just my $0.02. God bless.

      So I'm new to chilling anything, is the bed plate the plate that sets the thickness of the chips that you cut? and its supposed to be sharp? if we are talking about the same thing the plate thats fixed to the bed is rounded. Again I know nothing about this machine yet, haven't had a lot of time to read up on it, just using it around my property to mulch stuff up. When the property is basically clear I'm going to sell the chipper. Thanks for any knowledge you have about chippers. :)

    I just got the same chipper. Same motor. How do you engage the clutch? Slowly at low idle? Its hard to keep it from moving down fast once you go and engage it. It makes the engine stop

    • @KoalityofLife
      @KoalityofLife  Před rokem +1

      I engage the clutch slowly at a little above idle. I treat it just like I would treat a stick shift car, a little gas and slowly engage the clutch. If it will not engage the clutch without killing the motor check to see it the chipper drum spins freely by taking the belts off and turning the drum pully by hand.

    hay koality what you probably need to do is turn your bottom ware plate to a sharp edge and get it adjusted so the knives are about .10-.12 thousands of a inch gape i like to use a business card to set the gape it works perfect and it should take slabwood no problem with sharp knives ok.

      I used to run a chipper the same as that, if the blades are sharp there will be no poking to get the wood to catch. One touch and it’s gone. Btw if you glove gets caught don’t try to save it.

      @@mitchstephen5491 This chipper has been slightly modified, the spring loaded bed at the entrance of the drum has been welded in place because the springs broke and the previous owner couldn't find new springs. I don't know how much it will affect the machine but I'm sure sharp blades will make it chip faster. The one thing the previous owner told me was to watch out and not get caught by a branch as it gets sucked into the chipper, there is no cut off switch. Super careful when operating this machine. :)
