- In this video I explain and demonstrate what I consider are the current problems and the actual solutions of the Dark Magician deck, by using custom cards that I created, using a lot of ideas from several DM colleagues and my own, also, art from several artist around the internet and my own creations. I tried to make these cards as realistic and balanced as possible while effective to solve our current problems in a DM deck.

Actually loved this! The dark magician has had so many revisits and new supports but it’s never been in the meta of the game. This wouldn’t be unbeatable by any stretch but it would make the deck competitive. You need to get this in front of Konami 🤣

I am working with Breederofchaos. What we are using is a program called Data Editor X. What it does is it allows you to make the card (card name, number, what behaviors it has, all that,). The problem is that aftery you select the link monster, you get link markers. When choosing the markers, it shows all markers but does not tell us which one is which, just says link markers and then check box to select them. You can chekc them, but unless you know what you are looking at, you are not going to get what you want. The database file also does not tell you what link markers you have in the client itself if you are coming at itt with a screen reader either. Data Editor X doesn't really work with the descriptions either so we use a combination of Data Editor and DB browser for SQ light for putting in card descriptions, atk/def etc. because the labeling of those values has problems on Editor. When you try to put in a description on Editor it traps you inside the edit box. I was the one behind the descriptions themselves, but he did all the stuff with checking how the cards are displayed and putting them into the database for Ygo pro.. We will be posting a link for the link monsters later, but we will need two example cards for co-linked link monsters to use for this. Can you do that? This is all we need now and we can do the last card that will link those two monsters together, The Highest Magic.

Imperial Iron Wall is a menace to Dark Magician decks shuts off their main strategy of banishing cards and preventing them from banishing cards in the graveyard for additional affects.

Man if this shit was printed I would legit start joining tournaments. And master duel could be super fun again. I am so tired of relying on out of archetype cards to make the deck worth playing at all. I love the fact you don’t want to make any of this support splashable. another thing I’m tired of every new deck doing. Amazing stuff man

It's great that you liked it, I have so much fun using a really pure DM against my local friends using fair decks, but competitively, you have to fill almost half a deck with floodgates or other engines, at that point we become a worst Labyrinth or a worst Branded, etc, so, I'm also tired of using out of archetype cards.
@@1106hdgaming for real. When I run a pure build it just flows so much better. But sadly going second is awful and even going first can be killed by a hand trap or 2 or you just don’t really have enough interruptions for everyone else’s crazy decks. If they added even just the chaos monster, the link 1, and 1 spell/trap or 2 that you showed the deck would compete fairly at a high level and would be so fun to play. And then losing wouldn’t even feel

Very nice video, and great card design and PSCT! I like a lot what you did here, but I want to add some small feedback; I understand DM struggles with bricks, but I feel you should try to make the Indispensable cards generate card advantage in different ways. Since all three just add cards that mention DM, they sound a bit un-realistic. For example: a spell that can search/summon (you get to choose and you get locked) any of the lower level spellcasters (Souls, Rod, Robe, etc.) "Magicians' Sleight of Hand" is not unbalanced but it's really amazing by itself, I don't feel you would want more cards that add DM cards.
Which comes to my second point, the Palladium continuous spell and the Links that replace your monsters are amazing, and I feel this direction of banishing your cards or applying effects depending on the number of X you have are both great; fresh yet faithful for the archetype, so yeah I think they're super cool.

Dark Illusion Sage
4 star dark spellcaster with the following effect:
Can be special summoned if you have DM and DMG in your deck,hand or GY (not once per turn)
Can be added only once to hand after draw fase
If this card is special summoned on the field you can add 1 Dark Illusion Sage from your Deck to your hand
second effect :
if you have more than 1 Dark Illusion Sage on the field you can tribute it to add Timaeus the UD , Magikuriboh or Apprentice Illusion Magician to hand .

Ya both Red Eyes and Blue Eyes needs competitive play support
Red-Eyes doesn’t need support. It needs a reinvention. It’s way too slow. There are no really good payoffs to it’s chosen style of play. And it’s endgame is reliant upon the opponent not being able to out it before they run out of life points. It doesn’t STOP them effectively. Just challenges them.
With that said, something like Shadow’s Light can help with the Gemini gimmick. A supportive Level 7 Light Dragon couldn’t hurt in that regard, especially if it counts as REBD while on the field. Importing Black Meteor Dragon from the OCG would be good. A rank 8 that only stacks on top of Flare and requires REBD as material to use it’s effects… and maybe a field spell that protects it? This also helps with Malefic REBD.
Also a good level 8 monster that pluses you when tributed to make use of Lord of the Red and Alternative. If it’s a zombie that specials itself, you could also make use of REZD and the synchros.
There's a big difference between Blue-Eyes & Dark Magician 🎩. Blue-Eyes has ALREADY won worlds. We're still trying to get Dark Magician 🎩 there.
Well Blue has new support coming, and DM has a rework. Go figure. Let’s hope for the best.
Honestly some really good support and I would love it to be printed, or at least some cards similar. At the same time, I'm find if Dark Magician is never meta.
Yeah, me too, doesn't have to be "META", just competitive. Even Blue Eyes once won a World Championship but it wasn't META, just a good deck at the time.

My only critique would be the first passive effect of “Ever-Faithful Companions.” I would prefer the Spellcasters in GY to be protected from banishment rather than just targeting, for some added protection and potential future-proofing. Idk if you intended it that way to make it more fair, but I don’t think the card is OP, imo.
I’m also very impressed by the names you chose, they all fit the DM archetype fantastically well. I’m very critical of card names especially because Konami is impressively consistent with their naming conventions. The only one I was iffy on was “Magician’s Misdirection.” I love the “Magician’s” part because all low-level DM monsters have that convention, but the “Misdirection” part is what I’m iffy on because that’s normally reserved for the Spells/Traps. Just a thought. Also, is “Ever-Faithful Companions” a reference to the show? (it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen it lol) If so, that’s really cool.
Other than that, I was speechless during the whole video. Bravo. If someone asked me to provide solutions to the DM archetype, I would have no clue how to even approach that task lol. ALL of these cards are spectacular.
Since I was a kid, DM has been my main and favorite deck and now, I will be patiently waiting for these cards that will never exist. (Konami plz 😭)
I'm really impressed by the details you notice, it seems you really know about DM and Yugioh as a whole. Ever-Faithful Companions was based on how Yugi refers to DM in the anime and Duel Links, also, didn't add the banish in GY protection and prefer the target one due to the majority of cards that banish something from the GY needing to target, also, it covers shufflers and similar cards. Now the banishing protection is established on the field since there are way more effects that banish cards from the field without targeting. About Misdirection, I agree 💯 with you, it sounds more as a Spell/Trap, but I wanted something to refer as the mischievous magic of the magician to represent rod dodging a negate by link summoning this card after being negated 🤣. Maybe you could help me find a better name. Nevertheless, thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it.
I feel like combination is a plus that isn't really required.
For me a single card can fix the deck.
Normal spell
If you control a dark magician or DMG on your field or in your hand fusion summon one fusion monster from your ED with it and sending the other fusion material monster from your deck to the GY.
So it's searchable with rod and circle bc i has DM in it's text but also serves as a foolish burial (mainly for bricks like DMG).
And you can give it an on banish GY bc some DM cards have one. Banish this card from the GY and add one card with a different name that mentions DM in it's text, than return one spell/trap that mentions DM in it's text from your field or hand (or GY if you want to make it extra spicy) to the bottom of your deck.
Both effs hard once per turns.
So essentially we remove the shjtty fusions arts, eye and lv 8 dragon. And give a rod searchable fusion + circle addable one. That also fixes a double or a dead card in your hand with a combo piece circle, e soul or salvation.

This was my first time watching a video from you and I got to say I loved all the cards that you created. I was also wondering if you planned any more pendulum cards due to the one you made. Clearly you cannot have just a scale 5 without another scale up or down
I thought of a couple of them, but didn't plan to make them. Just made that one inspired by the Pendulumgraph dragon. I wanted a going second card that could search its own ritual spell, but the text would be too much so I thought about a Pendulum monster since they have a lot of text divided in two blocks. 😅
@1106hdgaming that's cool. I also just tried out those cards and I got to say it is amazing. I hope Konami takes a great deal of inspiration from your cards or at least pays you and the artists to use them. They are all balanced and even tho I don't know how to use them 100% it is still easy to break some boards and set up your own

I have a dumb useless card thats perfect for DM. Dark Magical Hats.
If you control DM during the battle phase, take up to 3 cards that mention DM from your deck and 1 monster on your field, shuffle them and place them in face down defense position. If this card is removed from field: special summon 1 DM from gy or banished.
Idk about that effect, but I’m obsessed with the idea of a DM card called “Dark Magical Hats.” It’s just so perfect ✨
How do you acquire magician sleight of hand
IMO an ideal field also has Piercing the darkness. you can't search for it you have to hard draw it... but damn! when you have the dragon knight, piercing the darkness and eternal soul, is really hard to get rid of dragon knight.

You need another link monster with any down arrow. In the demonstration video, that I invite you to see (link in the pinned comment), I use Magician's Misdirection.
The evolution links are good (im in love with then), and i even would say fair, the link 1 is busted, a +3 or +4 is just nuts.
And the highest magic is a good broken card, the co-link iis not that easy, to do that u need 1 link monster pointing down and the 2 evolution links, its a fair card if u think that we need to run 2 bricks, make 3+ links, using the bricks while surviving against snake eyes/tenpai
Great cards, truly! My only 2 concerns is that 1) I wish DM had a link monster that allowed itself to be treated as any type you need so it opens your range of DM monsters you can fuse into like Cavalry or if you need another dragon or warrior for the gaia fusion. 2) since Souls' Navigation is reminscent of Magician's Navigation, I would argue rather than give it an omni negate, it should be for monsters. Navigation covers S/Ts and Combination is our omni. Imo archetypes shouldn't have more than 1 omni-negate. Multiple, more specific negate is fine.
A third thing is maybe your first link 1 could use level 4s or lower as materials!? Maybe limit it to Level 4 or lower DARK Spellcasters. I say this so that Magician Girl decks can run this as another way to get DM or chaos magicians online
I'm glad you liked it! Your concerns are really good observations!!!! Though I'm confused with the third concern, you're referring to Magicians Misdirection? If you are, then Magician Girl cards can use it since Lemon, Apple and Berry are lvl 3 or lower.

@@codenamescorpion I think he's referring to not just new cards but in general, cards like Red eyes fusion, red eyes insight are crazy good cards. In fact, my custom card souls navigation is inspired in red eyes insight.
Salvation could have a yellow border as it sets eternal soul from the deck.

No, these are custom cards created by me. But, at least you can use them in EdoPro if you like.
Seems you're missing Bond Between Teacher and Student in your Magician's Rod equation. With that I typically don't ever want DMG in hand and Magician's rod is recyclable so it's always an option.
I personally don't find Combination's addition as justified as the other cards. It's great if you have it turn 1 but it's useless in most other scenarios. It's a card I can live without.
Sorcerer of Black Chaos seems nice but I'm not sure I like it being a Pendulum monster. Like what's the point if it's not meant for Pendulums in the first place? Dark Magician has no precedent using pendulums.
Yeah, I didn't include it in the video. There are several strategies in a DM deck. But the Bonds package I think is weaker than the final board I presented, nevertheless is a solid option. And yes, that's the point of the whole video, that cards like Combi are good just if all the pieces are assembled and it is inconsistent to do that in turn 1, therefore the deck is slow and weak.

The deck needs a proper Monster RotA that is a Spell and a secondary Spell Searcher that is a Spell and a way to dump Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl alongside Magicians' Souls.
The monster RotA and a way to dump DM and DMG is just a description of Souls' Navigation. The secondary spell searcher I believe is better to be a link monster which is Magician's Misdirection. So, yeah, I agree with you in that we need all of that for sure! 👌🏼

@@1106hdgaming it might be cool to branch out a little bit. maybe specifically for anime decks. lord knows Konami has no real idea what direction to take Red-Eyes for an example. Red-Eyes support is all over the place and itm ight be fun to look into that to see how it could possible be made coherent.

Currently in Master Duel we are missing: Mana, Magician of Black Chaos Max, Magi Magi Magician Gal and Dragoon (banned). I think that's it.
Magicians misdirection is broken
Is it really that hard to get these cards in a DM deck? I never had a problem with it. Almost every card searches for everything else. You don't need 5 cards on the board all the time. You pick how you start. DM with E Souls and Circle. That's all you need for disruption. DM Dragon Knight with E Souls is just 3 cards as well. That's good enough defense until you can reinforce it on your next turn. Its strong enough to waste your opponents resources trying to knock it down.
My fave opening is a 2 card combo. Mage Souls gets DM on field. Use Bond between Teacher and Student. Fetch DM girl and set that quickplay spell that nukes everything. On your opponent's turn, nuke their combo's foundation cards before they start. Its 2 cards to set that up.
I think it's less *hard* but wanting perfection with old school based cards which is bricky
To be competitive, dark magician, circle and esoul are not enough. This video is about making DM a competitive deck instead a below rouge deck. Nevertheless I do understand your point, but is just that the point of the video was another one. Disclosure: remember to take in mind that I'm circunscribing to just cards from the archetype. I know you can make DM stronger by adding other engines.
@@1106hdgaming I get that. But what I noticed is the video is focusing on individual cards in a vacuum. Sure IoC is the monster searcher. Sure Rod is the spell/trap searcher. Sure Soul Servant is the omni searcher. But in a DM deck, these things are never alone in the hand. There are 4 other cards that could already be DM combo pieces. You just need to bring in what you don't have.
DM decks aren't weak. In fact, I think its a great example of a modern deck that doesn't stop your opponent from playing but can still be good. Master of Chaos surpeise otks are funny. Its the meta that's currently busted.

I appreciate you are trying to be fair with balance and in archtype with design but your inital "problem" formula is very disingenuous.
We don't NEED the full combo.
You can't ignore out of archtype cards because literally every deck uses them.
SP little knight, Baronne, Crimson Dragon, Zeus etx just for the extra. Skill Drain, Torrential, TTT, Terraforming. All good "none archytype" cards.
Combination is nowhere near good enough to be part of the "optimal board". By extension I can remove that and have Solemn Strike set and then by further extension "need less cards in my opening hand".
I haven't seen your designs yet but the initial starting logic is very flawed. Also no part of your "optimal board" has Dragoon. It is literally a DM specific card.
But I will live in hope of a good design section. I am not trying to be personal, I am just trying to give a more reasoned perspective. Because ultimately I could say that the best board is Dragoon 2 flood gates and 2 hand traps and base designs off that for making "DM playable".
So just at the Link monster. No that card is absolutely absurd.

A big issue I see is people overly buffing current cards with rediculous retrains OR making new cards that make old cards rediculous.
You have this mindset of "MUST USE ROD". By that same token, why not do a fair retrain of Robe or Sage Stone?
With your way of thinking you heavily restrict design AND ignore massive abuse cases. I mean just say that out loud. "This is a plus 3". That is retarded balance. But that is on your own logic. It gets worse.
You also ignore another interaction.
Rod > add S/T > Link 1 > add S/T > No circle > Link Artemis > add OTHER S/T > Trib Artemis > Add Rod.
That is a plus 4 that searches 3 HYPER SPECIFIC CARDS. Including the strong ones you made that requires zero consistency and can not fail. All so YOU can force Combination to be relevant. Just don't use Combination.
You would have to NOT open.... sorry I tried and couldn't even write the amount of stuff you couldn't open AND cards that draw AND cards that randomly go into it.

Hi, I understand your criticism but I think it misses the point of the video. I clarify that I was just evaluating the archetype, not other generic cards, and that I acknowledge that incorporating other cards outside of the archetype creates better boards. So I agree with you that using other cards that are not from DM is better, but that's not the point of the video, but that shows my argument, if it needs to rely on generic or other archetypes cards to be good, then it's no good by itself really. Now start thinking in how many archetypes don't need to rely on Baronne to be good, a lot, so why not DM? Because it is a bad deck in comparison. About Dragoon, I don't think I've mentioned it, but didn't include Dragoon since it's banned in 2 of the 3 formats of the game (MD and OCG), so the Dragon Knight board is more achievable for the majority of people, therefore a better example in my appreciation, but the Dragoon board is another excellent example too, just that I needed to pick one.
Also if you brick in a DM deck, stop playing Floodgates and handtraps. Bricking reflects on your bad deck building skills as the pilot.

@@masterofchaos6465He's actually right. Its very hard to get a bad hand with DM decks unless you mix too much non DM cards.
The worst I could get is one rod with a bunch of spell/traps. Just summon the rod and use Illusion Magic. Now you have 2 DMs in hand. If your spells/traps are DMs, then you're set because they're either Secrets, E Souls, Navigation, etc. If you started with Mage Souls then you get DM. If you start with IoC, then you get DM. If you start with Illusion Apprentice, you get DM. Its hard to brick with a DM deck unless you keep pulling non DM cards.
DM bricks in general. Doesn't matter if you use handtraps or floodgates.

FUCK NO the Dark Magician archetype doesn't need anymore bloody support cards let alone custom cards

@david_8916 no it doesn't I'm fucking sick and tired of those fucking cards I literally have to play fucking rush duels on duel links just to avoid facing fucking Dark magician and even then it still shows up and I'm stuck playing as Romin because
- Yugas deck sucks
- Mimis deck is even worse
- Gavins only useful card isn't even in rush form yet
- Lukes deck screws me over No matter how many times I rebuild it
- and I still don't have all the cards I need to build an effective Roa deck I'm still missing 1 Royal Rebel Rocker
KC cups are especially rigged in favour of Magician and Blue Eyes 98% of the time I get Brick handed against them or randomly kicked from the duel despite no Internet issue nor pressing surrender
I used to breeze through blue eyes decks by running Cubic you wouldn't believe how many fucking morons kept attacking FACE UP Vijam the cubic seeds no matter how many times their monsters got cubic counters for example:
One opponent summons blue-Eyes alternative white dragon they have no other cards in their hand besides blue-eyes white dragon and they've already used the ultimate dragons skill
The only cards on my field are 1 vijam the cubic seed and cubic dharma
I'm thinking oh shit if they use alternative white dragons Effect I'm screwed because this is my last vijam (other 2 were banished by dragon spirit of white) and I'm out of Duzas and ways to resummon vijam if they use alternative white dragons Effect I'm screwed
THIS FUCKING MORON ATTACKS VIJAM THE CUBIC SEED WITHOUT USING THE EFFECT 😂 dumbest part is they tried using the Effect AFTER gaining a counter
Then this bloody idiot loses and calls me a hacker because my 0 Atk and Def monsters weren't being destroyed in battle even after I and other players point out that Vijjam can't be destroyed in battle and has he never heard of the timelord deck? (This was before Z-One was in the game) yet this fucking idiot refused to believe it
ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS READ THE CARD TEXT BEFORE ATTACKING 😂
Oh and by the way, Soul Servant was never meant to be an "ACTUAL" draw 2. The fact you listed in the starting hands shows you do not understand about getting to your combo pieces.
