Yup, I had a '53 Customline for about 15 years ... Bought a totally rebuilt short block with hardened seats and valves so it ran on today's fuel ... Sunvisor, three speed manual... Loved it ...

Patina only works if the body hasn't been messed with. With the bondo work started it just looks like a work in progress.

Had one when in the Service... started to rat it. Had great flathead v8, 3 on tree and overdrive. It was not a land yaht but land tug. It was 20 years old when i got it and had some “patina” rust showing. Great old classic. I think it ended up in Winnipeg.

I recently picked up a 53 Crestline with the original flathead & only 54K miles! That's the good part but it sat in a shed for over 30 years! I am going to put the engine in a 34 Ford Coupe & the Crestline will get a modern Ford V8 & trans!

He won't have it for long the Coupes are one of the most desirable models, I have moderated the 1952-59 Ford group on the H.A.M.B. for the last 10 years and folks love those Coupes. Hope one of our guys can score it and join up.

These cars ate their own door latches on a regular basis...front motor mounts too...awful hood hinges and one of the most vapor-locking prone cars ever.(Due to fuel line routing proximity to exhaust pipe.)The Fordomatic transmission was very weak in the pump valve body check plunger area and the accompanying rear axle ratio was so high-it wouldn't get out of its own way.I could get the 6V system to work ok, but just barely. These guys had no idea about this car. Nice that it was a coupe, 6 cyl standard shift...had a lot of fun in this 1962-64

The OHV inline 6 came out in 1952. V8 in 52 and 53 were 239 cubic inch flathead. 1954 was the first year for the 239 cubic inch, OHV V8. I just picked up a 1954 Crestline with the OHV V8, 3 on the tree, and factory over drive. Was a 1 owner car with 26,000 original miles. Been sitting in a barn for 42 years.

Yeah before alternators we're a thing cars were equipped with 6 volt generators which make dc power. Alternators create ac power which then gets changed to dc power through resistors.

Have an completely original '52 Customline 2 dr. V8 in the barn with much better 'patina' that hasn't been messed with. Put it on C.L. and had 40 calls in 24 hrs. First guy shows and hims and haws for 3 hrs. then just want's the chrome and front end parts for his friends car in Minnesota. Angry I ask why he thinks I would do that, Uh dunno just thought maybe. Never answered another caller. Still own car thankfully.
