How the hell do yall only have 13k subs!? Great work, all the way around, the filming, the wrenching, and for making full posts! So many of these shows make you watch 15 episodes for this much transformation!
Much appreciated! We hope to keep growing and hopefully faster haha!
@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps keep it up like this and surely the sky is the limit! Definitely got my sub!
There growing quick they only had a little over a 1,000 subs about a month ago
14k now buddy
Agree. Just leave the car or truck s alone. I hate when people. Lower pick up truck s
Larger wires, less resistance, therefore less heat that would kill the battery. Keep the large wires!
Yeah we got roasted in the comments about this haha, we don't work on 6v systems that much. Converting to 12 soon.
Not necessary to convert to 12 volts if wires remain same heavy gauge and all grounds are cleaned with knife or wire brush. May also add a ground cable from engine to body. Make sure battery is good and fully charged. @@DailyDrivenDeathTraps
@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps WHY??
@@jeffryblackmon4846 BECAUSE??
6V or 12V heavier gauge is better. Electric cables are similar to water pipes in that the larger the diameter the better the flow due to less resistance. it looks to me like the owner did a common upgrade to welding cable for the main leads.@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps
The reason they had super thick battery cables is because at 6 volts you require rougly double the amperage for every 12 volt equivalent circuit. (Yes pedants I know its not that simple but P=IV). On my 51' Chevy it had 4 Gauge battery cables and had a really hard time starting, once I switched to 000 gauges it cranks no problem.
Good info!
I love the car. I wish it was mine. I’m not into the patina thing. To me I’d do a brick colored primer, but I’d leave the top just like you did it. Then black seat covers, with a Mexican blanket covering the package tray. But hey, to each his own. You did a great job. My Dadz was a light blue green bottom with a dark blue green top. You know there were so many of these 53s in the late 50s that one night leaving the Olympic Auditorium after wrestling. My Dad and I got in our car to go home, but it wouldn’t start. Then my Dad says “Get out of the car!” We were in someone else’s car with the same paint scheme. I’m 70, but will never forget that night in 1957!
I'm glad it brought back memories! Also glad you said to each his own because so many other comments are just downright disgusting and now you know why some people don't build their OWN car. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, hope to see ya comment on the next one!
I have a 63.5 ford falcon sprint with a 260 and a 4 speed. My great grandfather bought in new in 63. I went thru and did a complete frame up restoration, keeping everything original. I rebuilt motor, kept it a 2 barrel kept the points and condenser stayed with everything stock. I’m now in the process of switching it 4 barrel and HEI and prob gonna put a cam in it as well. Like I said I went thru a lot to keep it original, got done and looked back and was like. “There is nothing of me in this car”. I even went as far as getting a trunk latch that was made in 63 for a falcon sprint when mine failed instead of just snagging up an aftermarket one. So with all this being said it’s your car do what you want. Make it something that has some “you” in it. Original is just something that rolled off some assembly line somewhere. Keep it up boys! Love these videos.
Sounds sweet and lots of work! Gotta add a lil "you" touch for sure. Appreciate that!
Also that top is probably one of the coolest and neatest things I’ve ever seen hell of job!!!
My father had that car when I was a young child (61 now), but in green. Brought back memories. Glad you didn't paint the bullet.
Glad it brought back some good memories, thanks for watching!
It’s not for me I am not into the patina look for my own cars but I can appreciate the work and she looks amazing. Heck of a lot better than seeing it just sit and rust away. Great work and nice video.
Right on! Thanks!
I'm the same. Much rather see it kept stock/original. My'47 Tudor sedan is all stock except for the 12v change done before I purchased the car.
I wouldn't listen to haters. Yall gave this car a completely new life. Patina with the black roof was beautiful then you guys put the lace in! The black wheels with meat and the chrome hubcaps.... Chef's Kiss
We laugh at the hate comments. It's great when people get so upset over something that isn't theirs. Great for views though I guess haha. Appreciate the nice comment!
I have a 54 . Installed a 390 and a 4 spd . Raised the front 2 inches and the back 1 inch . Yes I raised it ! Added power disc brakes and a new front cross member. 22 years later I'm still driving it !
That sounds like a fun car for sure!
Took a ride in the day, 57 Custom 2dr post, 390/tunnel ram/top loader/4.56, set you in the seat right smartly.
Yes... Get these cars off the ground. Sounds like a winner!
Old Fords are basically bulletproof. The Flathead V8 is also a legendary engine. Glad to see this car get a new chapter in its life
In my carshow, this old girl is a star😍
Thanks!
Bro. I agree with your idea. This thing is rolling art and care. I love this thing
The flatheads are the best sounding engines ever with straight pipes not obnoxiously loud at all.
Yeah they sound super good
I had a 52 Hard Top in 1961 and I loved that car so much. Lots of great memories. You boys are good at what you do even if you don't know it.
Thanks 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Love the work you did on this sweet ride. What so many jere have failed to realize is that hot rod culture is just this. Taking an original car and making it something unique. The lace top looks incredible, and I appreciate the door card fix idea. Love the channel.
Those flat head motors are the coolest lookin motors ever
They look super cool 💪🏻
Purdy dash. Dad had a 1953 Ford wagon. I liked it
I'm 64 and this car brings back memory. Back in the early to mid 60's a neighbor of my Grandmother Mrs Hamzy had one just like it only 3 speed 6 cylinder, we would walk about 3 miles to Grandma to visit and Mrs Hamzy would offer to take us home. I was 4 or 5 that back seat seemed so big to a child, I do remember she'd start out in 1st and rev up a bit and jump to 3rd mom would ask about 2nd and Mrs Hamzy would say I use that for hills.
Glad it brought back some memories for ya!
Large cables are good especially with 6 volt systems. Larger cables have lower resistance which results in less voltage drop between the battery and the starter. 6 volt systems are notoriously hard starting so they need all the help they can get.
Thanks for the info!
I have a lot of 50's trucks and tractors, all 6-volt and they actually start better in bitter cold weather than most of my later 12-volt units. If they are tuned up usually a couple revolutions and they are running. You have done a nice job, I hope you keep, appreciate, and take care of that sweet engine. Be sure to check and or change the fluid in the differential and pack the front hubs. I noticed what looked like a bad rubber brake hose for the rear end.
The 1953 to 56 Fords were the best looking of the big three.
That baby Cougar almost GOTCHA!!!
I had that exact car as a teenager. Stock flathead V8, with Fenton cast iron exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust, and three-speed on the column and overdrive. Thick body metal.
You guys did an excellent job on this car. Someone could put a small bock V8, auto trans, front disc brakes.
Thanks! Glad you liked it and it brought back some memories!
The flathead engine sounds ready for “Thunderoad” a really nice deep note.
@@YSA920 The Ford Flathead V8 85hp was made from 1932 to 1953 and was one of the best-sounding engines.
I had a 1937 Ford 2 door sedan that actually came with the small Ford 60hp V8 flathead. We put a larger Ford 85hp V8 flathead in it that we completely rebuilt with an Isky 505 Junior cam, Johnson adjustable lifters, Edelbrock finned aluminum heads, headers, dual exhaust that dumped behind the rear axle. Just with that cam and exhaust, it sounded so wicked at idle that no one wanted to race me.
Painting it all black would have been really nice.
That was a thought
Fantastic work! I personally own a 54 ford customline but I sadly don’t have a V8 😢. You gave the car a nice refresh and I love how the top came out.
Thank you! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I also have a 54 customline. Nunez is the 239 oh v8
My Father had a couple 53 Ford Victoria hardtop's,the customlines all had the rubber floor covering,i think you could check the carpet box as an option, but was standard to the Victoria,239 flathead ,110 horsepower ,what an old workhorse , nice find there guys 👍👍, very solid driver in my opinion, Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
The patina is so good, good call
I drove ‘62 Ford in HS and this find brought back many memories. What a fantastic find.
Glad it brought back good memories!
Good video new subscriber,my papaw had 53 just like that except yours in alot better shape sweet looking car I like it..
Glad you liked the vid and the car, Merry Christmas!
2 door or 4 door, it's still cool!
6v systems are supposed to have those thick battery cables.
Good to know!
I have a '53 Customline 4dr that I'm leaving at stock height. Where I live (Kansas), I need the ground clearance. Function over style, guys. If you knew what a blessing it is to have a good grille in one of those, you'd not mess with it.
car is a keeper.
Back in the 90s i had a 53 Customliner with the flathead V8 and 3 on the tree. Loved that car, had to sell it when i got laid off with a kid on the way. Would love to find another one in drivable shape like that one, brings back memories. ❤
Dang, you got a damn good taste in cars.
Haha, thanks!
Custom cars is what itis about , A lot of folks talk a game but do not have what it takes to do custom work , these young gays are willing to do there home work and encourage yours with these videos.
“Not too crappy” love that lol
I think it turned out perfect!!
24:03 hell yeah. Get this thing hammered! Love it boys
It turned out great not just okay
Glad you liked it!
nice little sled good job
Thanks 👍
That is one SWEET RIDE!!!
Appreciate it!👍🏻
I agree smoothies look good on older cars not so much on later model cars some but just certain cars with the right accessories!
Battery cables too thick....what???? Six volt systems carry less voltage but more amperage than 12 volt systems so they have to have thicker cables. I suggest studying electrical theory a bit. SMALLER cables carry less current, that's why overloaded wires melt.
Looks great! I picked up my ‘46 Chevy truck and the outside looked like crap. Mismatched panels and lots of mismatched paint. I went to town on it over the Summer. Sanded all the bad spots down, scuffed the rest. Next, laid a nice brown primer over the whole thing. Then, pained the fenders black and the body gray. Finally, went over all the fenders and high spots which I thought would take a beating from the sun and wet sanded through the paint to reveal the primer in those spots. Turned out really nice and I get compliments on the patina all the time. Best part is I spent less than $250 on all the paint and supplies and did it myself in the garage. Probably the best $250 I’ve ever spent.
Sickkk!🤠
Look good flat black. With torque thrust wheels but those smoothies look awesome too
Love the lace roof, and I to see see your channel going to 1 million sooner than you think. I have only gotten one ❤ from VGG in the over 2 years I've been watching. Another way you can grow your channel is to go on tour. You know the ones VGG, JYD, and Pole Barn go to. If you can get a shout out on any of the big channels, you'll scoop up a bunch of subs. I don't know if you know Kevin at Junkyard Digs but if you find a Honda three wheeler. I'm thinking he would probably be willing to buy it from you. He finds them on Facebook market place and just can't resist himself. He is in Iowa I think. On the merchandise, I totally agree with the usable stuff. With your logo of course. Now with that, you should have stickers and I mean alot of stickers. Not just for sale ether!! Give them to everyone and put them where people can get them. You could also do some live streams, and of course give away some stickers in the live stream. You might even want to give stickers in other orders. I really hope you see this and it helps. You guys rock and I look forward to more videos. Happy new year ❤️🇺🇲💪
Happy new year! We've talked with Kevin before. Would like to do a build off at some point in life. We're mainly focused on growing organically as we can haha. VGG is great. We'll get to the merch part of things soon hopefully! Thanks for the comment. Happy new year!
Flatheads are nice motors , I would leave it as it is.
We most likely will
Thats a nice old car...u are a lucky man. ..
Thanks 👍
Love the background music Colter Walls. Great content 👌
Nice job, guys! I was one of the guys who gave you sh!t about the drum/rotor thing, and I don't regret it one bit! Haha! Ya gotta have fun, and sometimes make fun, ya know? This 53 CustomLine was one awesome transformation. The lowering and wheels/tires really put it in a whole new category. The patina.....meh, not a big fan, as it's REALLY hard to create patina that looks like the honest-to-God real deal. Really not bad, though. That lace top really came out great, and the door panels and package tray look awesome! Overall, a great purchase and a great transformation! I really hope it does inspire younger folks to get into hot rodding the classics. That is a dying art form that needs to be revived and continued for sure!
Get you a cheap harbor freight spray gun lays the paint through a spray gun so much better. I think there only like 20 bucks. They have cheap air compressors too. That hood the way you have it sanded looks awesome!don’t pay no mind to negative comments buddy y’all did great for what you have.
Thank you!
You guys are severely underrated. I think of all my favorite car guys you are in the top three
We appreciate that! Stupid CZcams algorithm
The "slots" in the brake drums are for final brake shoe adjusting with a feeler gauge stuck in the slot between the drum and shoe.
I'm 73 years old worked on lots of these ford's if you need to know something just ask me I been archaic for 50 years you need an 8 volt battery and it won't hurt the lights or guages
I'm 70, and remember our 1952 Ford Customline very well. Three on the tree, flathead V8, very similar to your '53. We had it until 1962. I remember every detail. Keep up the good work. Us boomers would prefer originality, but looks like we are quite literally a dying breed. 🤷
Appreciate that and this comment, thanks for watching and keeping an open mind about our ways!🙌🏻
What a prize.
YOU Guys need more support . Im spreading the word , Thanks for Your show . LOVE IT
Much appreciated! Thank you sir!
Back in the 1960s we had a '53 Ford Crestline Victoria, the pillarless hardtop body style. Ours had the Fordomatic, plus the factory radio and heater package. It originally had the standard 239.4 cubic inch flathead V8, but the engine wore out and Dad got a Mercury flathead V8 installed. That car took us to Cape Cod in the summer, and to Rhode Island every other week to visit our grandparents. Sadly New England winter salt ate away at the body until nothing was left, so Dad sold it and bought an almost-new 1964 Fairlane 500. Sports Coupe with bucket seats and a 260 cubic inch V8. Yeah, Dad was a big Ford guy!
The original V8 was rated at 110-hp. There also was an ohv straight 6 rated at 90-hp.
Ive been wanting to do a lace paint job on my 65 falcon
This is your sign to do it 💪🏻🙌🏻
Beautiful car
Needs a 2x2 intake for an 8ba, aluminum heads and a cam, will pep her up a ton
Sweet, we'll look into that!
I'm 76, in broke ass youth was saddled w/flat head powered vehicles due to economics. So damn gutless and limited useful rpm due to shit intake limitations, must say the love of that past mystifies me. Got a good friend who's all about flatty's, I just smile and shake my head. My awakening was the first time I put a 283/220hp/4.11 rear gear to the floor. Call it an epiphany of power and beautiful noise, still in my head after all these years.
Glad we brought back good memories!
I really don't like fake patina, but yours came out nice. I think a matte clear would have been nicer.
Matte always does look great. Next build.
First time watching the channel I love this build, I can’t believe how good the rear rims and tires look, the lowering and rake is perfect, love the whole car
Thanks! We love how it turned out as well!
A great project restoration. I owned a 1953 Ford Customline two door in the late 1960's. Be king and gentle with her, she dersrves your TLC. Onward!
Thanks! 🙌🏻
im a young boomer , i would drive the wheels off of that.😎
I am 57 and I love what you have done. Merry Christmas and Happy New year's from Newfoundland Canada.
Happy holidays! Canadians are always nice aren't they haha!
OMG THAT BROWN CAR WITH THE BLUE STRIPS REMINDS ME OF THE CAR FROM THE MOVIE "CHRISTINE"...I CAN HEAR HIM SAY "SHOW ME WHAT U CAN DO"...🚗 💋
In 1965 I had a very classy 52 Olds Rocket 88 2dr Hardtop. I guess they're quite an item now, having been famous for racing against the Hudson Hornets back in the day. Anyway, my friend's older brother had a 53 Ford 2dr Mainline in perfect condition, in Black and White with a new pleated B&W interior. He bored out that 239, installed a Crane Cam, Special pistons, Offenhauser Hi Compression Heads and Twin Carburetors. With the original 3 speed Overdrive it would do almost 135 MPH. I took it out for a drive one night and almost killed myself. My Olds couldn't come close to it. Nice Car you guys prepped for the road. I'm glad to see there's still some around. Best regards from your northern neighbors. God Bless America. RS, Maj Ret. Alberta, Canada.
Great memories it seems, thanks for watching and commenting!
@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Thank you for your kind comments too guys. I just subscribed to see more of your Death Trap Adventures when they come up. Keep up the good work! Bob Steele, Canada.
Love the old ford
Remember 6 volt, POSITIVE GROUND!!!!!
Think of the three on the tree shifter as an "H" pattern. From neutral pull in and down for first gear then Pull straight up for reverse. Then from neutral push in and up for second gear and from neutral push in and down for third gear . That is how my dad explained it to me when I was ten years old. Very simple .
You guys are cool you do cars like I used to do 😊
Niceee!
I did the same thing with my 55 Ford back in 1971 when I was 16
Nice!
My mother drove cars like that my grandfather had a 1957 Chevy 210 6cyl and a 1967 AMC American 6 cyl
Nice!
Keep making good content yal are growing quick about a month ago yal where only at I think a little over 1,000 subscribers now ur at 14k. Imagine in about 6 months. lol
Thanks for the support 🙌🏻
Awesome look
Thanks!
FREAKIN SIIIIIIICKKK! Y’all are awesome!
Glad you like it, thanks for watching!
FO SHO! If you don’t like lace and fat body girls, what are you doing with your life!!?? Looking forward to the flamethrowers as well!
Great job guys! Love everything but the patina, but that’s personal choice. I would definitely prefer driving this over the stock condition. The lowering of an early 50’s car really makes a difference. Thanks for putting this out there.
That car with the good satin black
I'm like how doing your video's .keep it up great work.
That lace roof is awesome.
Im try that
There is a tool you can buy that takes those door handles off, although it might be hard to find. However, most restoration shops have them. It's a very simple piece of metal that, if you google it, you'll probably find it. It makes the job so easy.
For the three on the tree stuff, the trans is most likely a sideloader borg warner. Whatever it may be, its easy to convert to a floor shifter. If you felt like it!
Not sure what we'll end up doing next!
Whatever you do, im sure itll be great
Noooo dont cut hole in floor. Leave on tree. Ruins s value.
When battery cables are that thick it’s a good thing
Hey guys new to the channel love how raw yall are with the projects and remember those old guys were tearin up perfectly good cars at one time too thats where hot rods come from!
Hey! Thanks for watching and making this perfect comment! 💪🏻💪🏻
Yenz are so young 🌱
Fantastic project and a great channel. Just now discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate that! Welcome aboard!
Love the flannel idea, whole car turned out way better than I expected tbh. I'd daily the hell out of that thing
The boomers whining about keeping it original are the types to have a classic car collection that sits on their garage, never gets driven, and only brought out once a year for a show. Cars should be driven imo
Haha thanks! This is true! They should just be happy young guys are working on old stuff and they're getting used.
The song Green Onions comes to mind to me for some reason. 👍👍
Well done from australia. Iv.e got a 53 sedan, giving an old man ideas.
Glad you liked it! So cool we have viewers from Australia!
Looks great. Love the fact you younger guys are keeping hot rodding alive
Thanks! Surprising how many hate comments we get but ones like these keep us going!
So, with your lack of knowledge you may not realize these flatheads were in most of the hot rods that had 30's ford or chevy bodies. Your lace top brought back memories of my Harley Sportster on which I did the tanks and covers black base with silver through the lace and finished with candy blue. $20 bucks in the late 60's!
That came out awesome! Especially for how much money have in it. First time seeing the lace paint job. Really cool!
wow that is one nice car love it
Glad you like it!
Really liked the end result. My great grandparents had a black v8 shoebox and would talk about it from time to time. They would of went for a ride in this!
Nice! Thanks!!!
I love it ! Such a cool car !
Glad you like the video and the car! It was a fun process 🙌🏻
New to the channel and I like what I saw so I've subscribed. I think your channel has the potential to really grow. Keep up the good work. I like what you did with the car. That car is just a little older than me so it's nice to see the younger generation getting interested in old iron.
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Nice job
Thanks!
Another old guy here. That is a very nice find, especially in Iowa. One thing you may not know about your Flathead is that in mid-1951 Ford stopped using hardened valve seats. Of course we don’t know if that is the original block, or if someone had hardened seats added at some point in its life. Maybe the former owner will know. Anyway, if it doesn’t have hardened seats, unleaded fuel will cause some issues pretty quick. Look for the stamped engine number on the top of the engine, kinda between the intake manifold and the head, near cylinder #3. Decode it…. If it’s an 8BA or 0BA , you’re OK. If it’s a 1BA you might not be Ok.
Appreciate the info!
