    The continuing standardization of terminology in the rules is extremely refreshing.
    I look forward to any wacky tech introduced by the new pile-in and retreat rules! :)
    Oddly enough, this new abstraction of wound allocation is more immersive to me than having all damage go to one model until it goes down. "Stop bullying Bob the Varanguard, he's already so wounded."
    The consolidation of universal rules like anti-charge into the weapon profile just makes sense, as well as making generic "anti-infantry" type abilities boilerplate.

    Another property of this is that 25 mm bases will not be able to congo line base to base. I use that a lot with my SBGL.

    Those keywords on weapons are so good, providing that extra flavour and making some unique weapons actually feel unique.

      Since Doombulls are getting MOOved to another game, Rob needs to rebrand them as the Moovebull and be used to explain movement in AOS4

    I'm really hoping that they shifted SCE to be much more elite instead of the middle of the road baseline. Something like 5 liberators for 180 points. Balance around that.

      Judging from the warscrolls for the Liberators, StormS. Chariots, & Vindictors... not enough of a glow-up to match their lore quite yet--my guess is GW doesn't want their noob-oriented flagship army to also be a low-model count army. So... like almost everything, a business decision.
      I think part of the issue is they get matched up against hordes more in the lore than they do in-game. Libs & Vinds are going to see more badass wading thru weaker BattleLine 'equivalents' like marauders, clanrats, skeletons, & chainrasps than dueling Chaos Chosen or Kroxigor.

    All these vids are so helpful. I was trying to learn AOS 3 and struggling then they scrapped it anyway, but this is great for a rookie like me to try and learn a new edition’s rules before they are fully released. And you explain it really well.

    Rob! Thank you for all your hard work on these videos for AoS. 4ED. They allow busy dads that play casual and get to maybe 2 tournaments a year keep up with all the changes...these have been the best set. I hope when the full rules come out you will do more. Cheers!

    I'm pretty into this.
    Still a little concernd about the lack of mentions of Allies or Coalitions; but everything they've shown us so far is giving me enough positive vibes that I'm going to trust them for now.

    So far 4.0 is looking amazing for me. Im a casual player, and rules like the 1 inch range to attack, battleshock, heroic actions, only made it harder to learn the game and interrupted the natural flow (for someone learning such as me).
    Every aspect i didnt like about the game is being removed or simplified, which should also shorten match length (it took me about 5 hours for a 1.000pt game). Warscrolls are clearer and not as overwhelming for big heroes like Nagash and probably Archaon, unit stats feel more thematic and list building provides more freedom

    Interesting that you have to roll for your strikes first, strikes last etc. It seems much more common in what they’ve teased so far than currently?
    Maybe 4th will lean heavily into ‘gamblers edition’ 🎲

    These are my favourite changes so far. Super happy to hear save stacking is going. Love limited shooting in combat. Pile in sounds better. Also looks like units are being given clearly defined roles. I’m a big fan of the specific weapon abilities and units being stronger or weaker against certain other unit types.

    Really fun to watch these videos and read the comments. :). I really need to snap out of my funk because each time I see warscrolls and new changes I see some positive but keep thinking of stupid things. :D
    Like Kroxigor you don't want to attack with large blocks of infantry, you don't want to charge Vindictors. Liberators are now kinda blah for me simply because they get mortal damage on 6's yet Vindictors can possibly get Strike-First if they've been charged, and with 3" range, easier to get much more damage. Now I'm not a tournament player, very much a casual player, but I keep feeling that depending on battletomes and such, factions and the game is going to feel very linear in regards to decision making. This unit goes against this unit, this unit against that. And hopefully each faction is balanced well enough that you have enough choices to build well balanced lists.
    Curse my stupid negativity! (Really love the new shooting rule though.)

    Love the pics, my only issue is that the conga line in the middle is out of coherency. I think they said in a previous article that units of 7 or over have to be within 1/2" of 2 other models, right?

    What I wanna know is what the difference between normal and mortal damage is. It looked like normal damage carries over to other units, since it says damage on a unit is equal to the health, rather than equal to or greater then

    I've never played AoS, haven't played any large scale Warhammer games for about 10 years. AoS with it's reactive system is making me buy kruleboyz off eBay - hoping to dip my toes in

    There is a 99% chance the scroll for liberators that they’ve shown is only for the unit that comes in the launch boxes, and when the whole army rules comes out they’ll have options. It’s happened in every starter sets recently, AOS and 40k

    I think that they mean with "no more start/end turn abilities" is refered only to combat phase. There is only reaction command abilities that works in combat phase (at least in the core rules) and only non-reactions CA works in the end of phase.

    So far all of the rules previews for AoS4 have been great. I’m super happy with AoS3 and I was wondering how they could make it better without ruining what we have, and honestly I feel like AoS4 is doing it so far. The commands are amazing, the tightening up of the rules is great so far. I just NEED to see what scoring/misssions/battle tactics feels like. Current battle tactics don’t really amaze me, and the faction specific ones create brutal “haves” and “have not” scenarios.

    Is everyone getting a warscroll/ army update on launch of 4th?
    As the retreat mortals cost would be horrendous for nighthaunts doing a retreat/ charge with their low wound count o.0

    TBH: I don't think this new Weapon Profiles are that much better.
    I like that I don't have to break my mind how to be flexibel in special Weapons and so on, but it is not really less complicated, just a bit more streamlined and squeezed in one side of a paper. But its not less complicated, you still have 3-4 special abilities depending on your Loadout. As we see for Nagsh, very uniqe special rules are still there and will show on Warscrolls all around. They just steamlined some things like specials on hitting 6s and/or wounding 6s.
    Lots of glamour but not the biggest change in the warscroll i have the feeling.
    For Phases, Rob already said it. "There aren't any subphases anymore, but there are..."
    Why would you even write subphases are gone, but you just brought in Strike first... wich is exactly what opens a subphase...

    High key retreat is too permissive for my tastes, I'd prefer if it was when declared, enemies in engagement may make attacks on the retreating unit if they haven't attacked this phase or attack with a quarter of the models in engagement if they have

    You mentioned you would like to put out a video breaking this all down and making it easier to understand, would you please use a board and some minis like you did in your screening video. I find it so much easier to work out what's going on if I can see it happening on the tabletop. Caveat! Screw that noise if it makes it a lot of work

    About coherency, from what I understand is that each unit needs to be 1/2" away from another. No mentions about if there needs to be units vertically. So in theory, we can see again 20 Saurus warrios in a line to make a screen. Am I understanding that right?
