    Personally, I would have made the top step level with the floor so as to create a 'landing' rather than stepping straight out-and-down.

      Definitely should have a landing. Might even be a bldg code requirement.

      The problem with a landing is it needs to be lower than the threshold or rain will bounce into the house or snow will block the door from opening

      The landing in my area is required to be 3ft Sq. I generally make then 4 so you can stand on it with your hands full and operate the door.

    Love ya Tay but those stairs were a version of perfuming the pig. However there is a flipside. Whomever does purchase the house can come to Lift Arc Studios for a back patio stair build. A win win.

    I am surprised that nobody else had commented on the sharp corners at the top where you cut the side c-beams. A piece of plate over that would easily mitigate that issue, but it seems like a rather significant hazard as shown. It would not be out of the ordinary to expect that someone might fall while on or near those stairs, and landing on that corner could do a decent amount of damage. Depending upon what county your property is in, you may or may not need handrails as others have mentioned, but if required it seems that only one side would be necessary (unless your local authority having jurisdiction says otherwise).

    IMHO those stairs will get replaced as soon as someone moves in. People just want the standard and nothing original.... Good luck selling the house! Looks like a great find for someone - I'd buy it since we've been looking for something exactly like this, but I'm 3000 miles away.

    • @branchandfoundry560
      @branchandfoundry560 Před 11 měsíci +3

      True. Buyer's perspective is, "Hmm, what else is half assed or seems off around here?" Once you open that box, tons of things jump out at you. Doing less because we're "In a hurry" is a common mistake that slows or kills the sale process. Not here to slam him, so I'll leave it at that.

    The stairs are a good temporary fix. Better than no stairs at all. IMHO, they are an extreme hazard. An unsuspecting person would not expect to have to step down immediately. Aside from that, your house is beautiful. I'd snatch that up in a minute.

    So, I haven’t seen the entire video, but right at where he’s measured the door height. Well, did he account for the fact that the patio where that bottom step will land is lower than where the patio is right at the house wall? Stay tuned folks, it will be interesting to see.
    I agree with the others, the top stair can’t be where it is. It needs to be level with the door. And handrails! Someone coming out of that kitchen with big plates of food are going to find that precarious.
    Oh, it’s a very nice house.

    Ouf. Couldn't you have made the upper tread(?) / step(?) the same hight as the bottom of the door? That looks so odd to me, that there is no landing, i guess... But I may be architecturally biased, as where I live, doors are more recessed into the house, by roughly a 8 or 10 inches.

    You would have been better off to make them from scratch & could have included the handrail that is needed as well as a landing outside the door.
    I would have add a large landing handrails and turned the stairs to run along the building. There will be a problem with that last step not being equal to the rest of them. I had that same problem on a short step transition at a jobsite which caused several people to trip due that last step. I built a new replacement steel set, problem solved.

    That looks like something that's going to have to be reworked. No offense, I think it looks good. Just with my experience with home inspections that's going to need a railing and it probably won't meet municipal codes. I say that because most inspectors want equal spacing and that bottom step distance looks from the video to be different than the landing step.

    i might be the bearer of bad news... It looks like with 3 risers you may need a landing at the top of the stairs along with a rise max of 8.25 and a tread depth of 9 inches... according to your CAD plans it looks like your good on the rise but not the tread depth. please double check but some home inspector is going to flag that stair set most likely.
