Walmart has 25% of the grocery market. They should be getting the best quality and prices from their sheer buying power. If quality is inferior, that’s their choice.

you are absolutely right. My husband and I eat very little beef anymore and in Canada good beef starts around 24.00/lb, and it doesn't taste like beef. We bought a few pieces from a farmer friend and what a difference. It was good and tasted the way beef should and Walmart here in Canada sources a lot of Canadian products but they are one of the more expensive stores to shop at.

@@SharonAnnMenefee I've never bought meat from walmart. One time I was considering buying a chub pack of ground beef but I sorted the reviews from worst to best. There were 1 star reviews about people finding tiny pieces of cartilege or bone which has never happened to me EVER with the ground beef I buy. There was a review that said about 1/3 of the chub was LITERALLY PURE FAT. That put me off trying any of their other meat. Also a month or so ago I saw a video of two women in walmart showing packs of chicken with the weight and price on the label of course. But the weight was WAY less when she put it on the register scale and produce scale. That's just intentionally ripping people off!
As for produce I only buy celery and shredded iceberg lettuce(for tacos). The quality of both is always excellent and it doesn't have time to sit around and go bad because it sells so fast. Neither of the two grocery stores I go to sells shredded lettuce so it's great that walmart does and the quality is great. For potatoes and onions winn dixie is the best place for me to go because they have 3# bags of onions and 5# of potatoes BOGO virtually every week, and the quality is good. Of course you are going to get one or two bad ones but that has always been the case for pre-bagged produce.

We raise a lot of our own fowl for meat and eggs. When they are free ranging, eating garden scraps and fermented grains thier fat is almost a neon yellow. It's from the beta carotin in the things they eat. Same thing happens with grass fed milk into butter- the butter is vibrant yellow.
Egg yolks are effected by the same thing- the more natural diet the chickens have, the more yellow/gold the yolk is.
As someone else mentioned, it can be faked with certain feeds or flowers.

    • @Bob-zh7lr

Wal mart doesn’t have free range meat though. Perdue chicken is yellow because they feed them merrigolds and things like that since they’re free range but wal mart doesn’t have that. Hi Danno and Jess
Walmart’s produce is so bad I started buying my produce at my local farmers market. Today I was totally shocked to find out much of the produce was from Mexico and other Countries! I don’t want my produce from anywhere else, I want locally sourced produce. When I questioned this, I was told it’s because so much of the produce isn’t available locally year round. Everything that was available was in season. So the answer I was given made no sense.

your grandparents are right. It is the feed. Slimy is one thing but yellow is another. Tyson chicken is another brand that had a lot of yellow on their chicken espeicially if the chickens are fed corn. You know if you feed a baby a lot of carrots their skin starts to turn a twinge of orange?Well the same for chicken. Actually the really white chickens after they are killed are bleached so they have a lovely white skin. That is a fact that came from a chicken plant. They are dipped in boiling water to remove feathers and another dip in the bleach to make their skin white.

For many years I've used the GV dish washing detergent that comes in the large jug with a handle. I am pretty sure it was Dawn, packaged for Walmart. It was half the price of the name brand, and very good. The last 2 bottles I've had, though, the liquid is very thin and barely gives any suds. The GV toilet paper that I also depended on has become so downsized/downgraded that I will no longer buy it either. I live alone and easily go through 2 rolls per week. The whole "bale" of 12 rolls weighs practically nothing. I'm going to go with a son to Costco for these items.

A few years ago, coupons were still big, so it was way cheaper to shop at so-called expensive stores, and it's still true these days. They always have a better selection, better quality and better prices if you know where and when to buy. In terms of produce, their organic salad mix is five for a pound, radishes usually look much better than in other places. Organic milk and heavy cream are also cheaper there. You will see people talk about grass fed beef having more omega 3, but beef has almost no omega 3 either way, so there is no real benefit there. You would need to eat 100lbs of beef to get the same amount of omega 3 as you would get from 1 pound of salmon. When I want omega 3, I eat salmon. When I want to eat tasty beef, I eat grain fed beef. It was right before Christmas and busy, busy, busy so didn't do too much extra looking. We looked at price for different products along the aisles we traveled. It was interesting because some stuff seemed very right priced, a lot of stuff was mighty right unfamiliar, typical American product ran expensive, and they clearly had multiple qualities of product on the shelf (and prices) of stuff in multiple categories.

    Greetings from North Carolina!
Hope you’re keeping cool in this heat wave!
I have to agree with your love- hate relationship with Walmart. I utilize their home delivery service. Saying that I chose very carefully what I have delivered. I mostly have the basics- can goods, certain cleaning supplies, paper products and some fresh vegetables. I save time and energy with their delivery service, that way I can bargain shop and pick up what wasn’t available at Walmart. I don’t buy meat but I do buy packaged lunch meat. The prices in our area are far too expensive and not many shoppers will have meat in their carts. Not long ago, a $100. would buy nearly a full buggy. Now the same buggy will cost double. So I buy what I know is a better deal and then I head over to the next grocery. Fresh vegetables are touch and go at any grocery at any given time. Best place to go I my opinion is a farmers market or grow your own.
    👊🏻 keep finding those bargains!
Keep stocking up! It better to be prepared and not need it then to need it and not have it in your pantry.

My Walmart trips are becoming fewer and farther apart. There are some things I will still buy there, but not produce or meats. I'm even now concerned with their dairy. We have started buying locally farm fresh grain-fed chicken eggs, produce from our Farmer's Mkt, and now looking at grass-fed beef options. Going to start up my garden again too. All the garbage that is sold in ALL stores is too full of artificial poison. I wish I could afford Publix. Their prices are just too high for my budget, but their BOGO's are usually good.

I was at Wal-Mart today and couldn't believe it. They must have gotten a HUGE shipment in because the aisles were so full I could barely get my cart through. I dont know about the food area. I was only in the hardware department. But I did see some pallets of canned food sitting back there too.

I swear to God that they left so much fat and skin on them (tucked under the meaty part of it and not visible through the wrapping) just to add weight to the package. They also had a lot more veins (they look like tubes they were so thick) then any other store I bought them from.

Our produce at my store is great now even though it used to suck and the Avocados here are beautiful. I love Aldi but don't know where you get the idea that they are locally sourced. Maybe your Aldi is different. Neither store has meat cutters. It is all prepackaged, but Aldi does it better in my opinion.

I think she bought stuff forgetting she had more in the basement but there are a few items where she did follow the buy up the deals when you see them. I have too much stuff to stock up on anything right now making last night a Cabernet rant to drink the box left for me by her sons.
Walmart meat (80/20 ground beef)is definitely not as good as Aldi and like you said Walmart produce is crappy. I usually buy all my produce at Kroger. Canned goods are usually Kroger things I stocked up on. Moving my stash I was able to inventory my Campbell’s and Progresso. I don’t care for Great Value soup and found some in my pantry that just got donated to SVDP.
