  • The traditional music of Africa, given the vastness of the continent, is historically ancient, rich and diverse, with different regions and nations of Africa having many distinct musical traditions. Music in Africa is very important when it comes to religion. Songs and music are used in rituals and religious ceremonies, to pass down stories from generation to generation, as well as to sing and dance to. Traditional music in most of the continent is passed down orally (or aurally) and is not written. In sub-Saharan African music traditions, it frequently relies on percussion instruments of every variety, including xylophones, djembes, drums, and tone-producing instruments such as the mbira or kalimba.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music.
Music is an expression of human creativity. UNESCO reports that among all the performing arts, music is the most universal and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art forms and other domains of intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional forms of music are considered carriers of cultural heritage because they represent expressions and traditions transferred through generations of a community.
With recordings from more than hundred nations our collection of traditional music offers a staggering diversity of our humanity.

I strongly believe my ancestors were with me during this, i could hear them tell me to be still and focus on a candle in my mind. i couldnt stay still to the beat. many memories came to mind, my ex, which gave me a message to forget about him- to be able to move on to my riches. everything made sense and was simple. i didnt have to force the thoughts, they just came.

I understand why the title "voodoo" polluted this title. The actual rhythm is played in some of the Ayisyen vodou (vodoun) rituals as well. Vodou rituals in Ayiti is a mixture of several Afrikan music and traditions with a lot of emphasis of the Fon people, the Yoruba, Ife, Igbo, congo and several others. One music rhythm called "rada" found in ancient Nubia is still danced in vodou ceremony. I'm always in awe to see that this traditions although, distorted in some ways, continue to survive miles away from Afrika.

+Marabou Kreyol yes indeed the haitian voodoo is a mix from all these west-african influences ; but I think 'Rada' comes frome the ethny called Arada, or Adja, the first vodun worshipers in Benin and Togo, who influenced the Fon, Ewe, and later the Yoruba from Benin and Nigeria (which are well represented in Cuba, practicing their Santeria -or Lukumi- rituals).

I want to say because I have African blood that I'm pre disposed to like this music. (No wonder why I listen to Jungle/Drum and bass) But I hear so many genres in this music. This is universal. These drums affect everyone.
There's a reason why voodoo was banished from the African American psyche. But listen to popular music and tell me African drums isn't in there. Hip Hop (and ALL rock and Electronic music) has direct ties to this music and it has reached the entire world. They couldn't suppress everything in African culture.

the cushians of africa are descended from cush jr. son of hami son of noah the atlantean.
indians, arabs, persians, greeks, egyptians, latinos, chinese (extreme hamites), blackamoors and polynesians are the other hamites. rednecks and scots and irish despite being javedites are hotheaded and will kill on being insulted.
hamites are by their nature depraved and prone to support what is the opposite of good. and if someone is hotheaded or hotblooded, he has hamitic blood and is counted as a hamite. italians and arabs, for example.
by the way, to judge by colour of skin comes from equally depraved sdmites and is the way of sodom and gomorrah. but to judge by content of character, there is no blame in this.

It's actually a call to movement and control of the things around you. While European religions taught peoples of color there is a separation between the seen and unseen. God was away, distant, and only in the sky. To connect with him there must be a mediator that requires you only to acknowledge you are bad, and he is good. Voodum teaches you there is no separation between the heart beat of the earth, the SOURCE, the drums, the animals, the elements, etc., and movement is required of all things upon command.

I’m born, and live in the states- not so favorably in central Indiana . Where the roots and what has bred of hate and a lot of violence to current times- I fully seek these drums to lose myself in them, learn and absorb something of ancient and beautiful rituals of spirit. The rich and darkly mysterious long held lineages; I allow it to release me of the misery here. Soon I will be able to rise above my situation, more empowered than ever. I graciously give infinite gratitude!
Also if it weren’t for my older brother being a phenomenal drummer and teaching me to look to the drumming to find my way and meet my own ancestors- I may not be here at all, with some courage, and dignity I feel in a land I stand alone it seems. Thank you! Much love from Indiana! 🙏🙏🙏

The sad thing most people don’t understand what the drums are saying. This is a whole language and not just a beat. The drums are calling on spirits to enter the place! I also believe that a lot of woman in here listening to the drums while on their period,or pregnant what is against the laws of interacting with spirits. Most of you people disrespect the spirits because you don’t know how the costumes are. African spirits are nothing to play with,it’s not just a lifestyle it goes deeper. There is respect that we most give them. Some of y’all aren’t even allowed to communicate with our spirits because of generational curses that are on your souls.

I am an instinctive percussionist, and that means that I was born with a certain kind of natural rhythm in my blood, genes, heart & soul, and I knew this from an early age; and those around me tried to tag me as mad or something, because they could not understand what it was that was going on inside of me. But, for me, percussion is like a second language, No, in fact I will say it is my first language, it is for all of us, the first sounds we hear are vibrations in the womb, and percussive sound waves coming into the womb from outside, and then later the human voice is learned. We live with and react to vibrations, and I had in previous decades made a study of this as part of my fascination with drumming, Spanish Flamenco drumming, Japanese Daiko or Taiko drumming, also is very deep & meaningful, as is African and in fact Afro Brazilian, which is also used for the dance ritual in the Capoeira practices of Afro Brazilian Martial Art, and also in Thailand in the dance Ritual of the Thai Boxers before they can fight, and as we all know in the Native south American & north American & Canadian Indian tribes, likewise, their way is to drum and dance before war or battle, and again afterward, either to celebrate winning, or to sing farewell to those whom they lost in the heat of battle, the Japanese have been doing that for umpteen centuries, using giant war drums, and smaller sets for other ritual events, I love Japanese Daiko, I have experienced it up close and personal during my MMA days, as with the traditional Chinese drumming events & rituals. Drumming has been going on inside of my head since I took my first breath, and most of those who I have either lived with, worked with or socialised with, including most family members, have looked upon me has having some kind of mental problems, because of my intense fascination with drumming cultures and percussion in general. Look at Indian drumming, Tabla, I have sat for hours and listened to the legendary Allah Raka, father of Ustaad Zakir Hussain, an equally legendary Tabla percussionist, both of whom played for the legendary Ravi Shankar, and I've been mesmerised, like totally immersed and floating, like tripping I'd say, as with Shamanic drumming and Mongolian too, and this African drumming has near enough the same effect, it connects with something within us. For many years I have had this thing that often tell people about certain genres of music if they should ask me about it, first I give them a lecture on music in general, and then I will tell them this; so, check this out, because this is what I will say about this African drumming. . . . . "
We believe there is a place that lives within us all.
It is a place of vision and clarity, where the rhythm of life moves in harmony with a higher consciousness.
