  • Note: I forgot to mention in this discussion that we've filled the base of Bob with sand rather than water, close to the 270 pound limit.

    My latest video is a profoundly different adventure that takes me from the gym to the inner and outer reaches of the Cosmos. "I Rode a Filament to the Heart of the Universe": czcams.com/video/n2FCW1Wali8/video.html

    I’ve been boxing and training since my teens. The bob is great for stationary training and building up punching power but it’s very stationary and an overall better option for training is a heavy bag because it and swings and constantly moves which is needed for rhythm and footwork. But to train for full heavy sessions on the bob and not hurt yourself what I do, I wear 12 oz. Gloves with 180 in Ringside wraps and even at light weight I am a heavy hitter so use gel soles for my knuckles under my wraps. I can work on it all day like that and never hurt my hands. Also striking the body is way more useful than striking the head. It can be used for target practice but doesn’t put up much resistance which doesn’t help with punching power or accuracy. But the body holds up great. Just raise it up to the taller point and work the body.

    Great review! Thank you. You tend to shrug your shoulder everytime before you jab FYI.

  • @adventuremanintheclouds8968

    Fill it with sand, it won't move.

      Still moves, sand, pea gravel, water it moves. It isn’t a power development tool and that’s ok.

    To limit movement,put a layer of gorilla tape on the bottom of the base,straight across everytime,seal around bottom edge. wrap around twice.Never will come loose.any surface.

      Yea, I feel ya, I found one of these at the thrift store. I already owned one. So now I turned BOB into BETH by gluing a wig on him and cutting a hole where his mouth was and shoving a fleshlight in. It's pretty dope I wont lie. Better then getting a real Hxoker and aye. NO MORE STD'S! Know what i'm sayin!

    Hi nice review. Main issue with Bob is that the base moves during exercises. What would you recommend to prevent it from moving. I filled the base with water and I am hesitant to put sand. Thanks

    What if Century martial arts made a Bob that can rotate in a 360 circle? Then you can move around in 360 circle. Lol

    Cobra reflex stick bags and aqua bag weren’t around 30 years ago.

      Century had a water filled bag back that long.
      The inner liner broke and Century told me if I cut off the label and mailed it in they would cover the lifetime warranty and send me a new bag.
      Not the same bag though.
      I'll just keep my old one stuffed with rags or maybe repair the liner.
      Cobra stick bag?
      How about a top and bottom bag and taking a piece of wood, a few inches thick, drilling holes through it and adding either table legs or just plain wooden dowels.
      I made my first short mook jong that way.
      Duct taped the top and middle added l mounts for the top and wall.
      Have to keep checking the screws though as they tend to wobble after striking.
      Better yet the old Wing Chun book has a diagram on how to make a Mook Jong. And the arms should be tailored to the individual.

    Hi folks, For the best demonstration I can offer of the Century Bob XL's functionality, check out this vid of my 10 consecutive minutes of non-stop combination punching on the device: czcams.com/video/abjeZIobF2U/video.html

    How would punching bob with bare fists be? It would be more realistic for self defense. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    hey i have an idea to try but seeing if u have done it before:
    strap body protector and face from title onto heavy bag

  • @LeadLeft

    Can you fill the bottom of bob with sand for more weight? That could help with bob moving around too much through rounds.

    • @iamshredder3587
      @iamshredder3587 Před rokem +1

      Yeah you can, least the one I got you can. It's about 125kgs with water and probably a good 175 with sand especially if it gets packed down and topped up over time.
      Still can move around abit though but better. There's alot of energy release in all those springs and strikes and such. Plus I'm 6'3 and a lean mean 180 kgs of pure grain fed premium manliness so little bob has about as much chance of standing his ground as one of those thing-y-ma.....

    I think is too soft nad moves too much ... I think after seeing this the Box Master with 12 focus mits or the Aqua training bags are much better than this one... I was about to buy one, but it seems to move around too much and be too soft at impact for getting a real training workout session... The Aqua Bag is also cheaper than Bob and the Boxing Master 12 miits device.. but the Boxing Master seem to be really stable and give a serious workout....

      I have a bob. If you want you it as a heavy bag raise it up to the highest point and punch the body. Ive seen some schools add a chest protector to add more padding. If you want to do some target accuracy training go lighter.

    Do you need to wear gloves?

    • @overfortyathlete4522
      @overfortyathlete4522  Před 2 lety +2

      In my experience, yes - in fact, I'm only really comfortable using 12-ounce boxing gloves on Bob (or any other punching device, for that matter).

      If you train seriously yes you need to wear gloves. You will tear your knuckles up. In general you should always wear wraps and gloves not only for your knuckles but to protect your wrist. For serious training on any heavy bag, bob or whatever always wear gloves
