- Hey guys, let's check out this crystal swap for the SRP775! My addiction continues! I'm starting to get better at this stuff and it's making me super happy! I love customizing stuff! As usual, this is not a tutorial but just the documentation of my progress. If you want to see a really good tutorial on how to change a crystal, go here: • Watch Crystal Replacement
SUPPLEMENTAL INFO: Understandably, you have concerns about water resistance after doing such mods. I am committed to bringing the best possible information to you all which is why I've decide to acquire a water resistance pressure tester to ensure my mods meet or exceed OEM water resistance. These crystals are high quality and should meet OEM pressure test specs.
To achieve this, be sure to CENTER your crystal on the case before pressing and apply just a little pressure to make sure it is going in uniformly. Apply a little more pressure and a little more all the while ensuring it goes in perfectly. Failure to do so may damage/destroy the crystal gasket.
Use this information at your own risk. I take no responsibility for damage to your own personal watches and self as a result of "knowledge" you've acquired here. I will however take responsibility for awesomeness and super happy funtime smiles that you may get after doing such mods using things you've seen here. Fo sho! The audio tracks: "Funky Logo" and "Serenity" were purchased by me via Audio Jungle (envato). I have full rights to utilize this track for monetized videos on this project (channel). The piano track "Desler's Realization" was composed and played by me one lonely night while it was raining and I had a lovely box of Chicken In a Biscuit by my side. Oh how I miss that box of lovely crackers.

Daaaamn youu! You woke my sleeping watch daemon! I thought I put this addiction in a galaxy far far away. But noooo! Last night I had to go and buy a turtle, double dome sapphire ar, tools and some new straps. :S
It'saa soo niicee!
Thank you I guess.
Oh yea. I found a rad frog watch too. Almost as cool as you green Seiko Turtle ;)
Duuude, I just did the same as you today.
I've been holding of from buying a watch for 5+ years just because I know how much of a slippery slope it is. I even had a rado diastar gifted to me just a year ago. But that wasnt enough to satisfy the demon, and I just had to get the seiko padi turtle.
I'm doing all I can to resist doing risky mods...for now.
Taking a trip on nostalgia road, hard to believe this was 6 years ago :) Hat tip to you as this video of yours got me into modding my own watches too, cheers to your continued success and growth!
Hi Minitwatch. Nice video. I have a cheap and dirty method for checking waterproofness after changing crystals on a dive watch. I simply reassemble the watch without placing the dial or movement in the case. Instead, I wad up some tissue paper and place it inside in place of the movement. Then i leave the watch at the bottom of the deep end of my pool overnight. If the tissue stays dry, the case is tight. It's not a proper pressure test of course and will not indicate whether the watch will perform at dive depths but it's a good test for general skin diving or swimming use. I've tried this method with both push/pull crowns and screw down crowns. I have used this method with great success. No failures!
I like these instructional vids. Very inspiring. Thanks and wax up your board in case you have to paddle out of your house after the storm.
That's a good idea! I don't have a pool, though. Toilet? hah! Thanks!
nice to see you in J Anthony's live chat today mate! Appreciated the shout out as I left too. If I misaligned the laser etches turtle it would drive me mad! Miss the dinoPuppets!
Different people like different things.Having carried out this mod on my Turtle and my SKX009,I have to say,the skx looks superb with the DD blue AR crystal but on the Turtle,it looked awful.I have now changed the DD on the Turtle,to a low dome with a Red AR.What a difference, the dial now pops and the whole watch just looks so much better. This is just my opinion of course,if you're happy with what you have, that's good.
Just ordered the double dome AR blue coating crystal to swap it on my SRP777. That will give it a stunning look. Double dome crystals avoid distortion and AR coating on a monochrome dial simply look splendid... I'll avoid on dials like PADI or other sunburst ones as the coating might modify a bit the colors...! Great review as always mate...!
unfortunatly the crystals i had purchased from crystaltimes last yr for a few other models wouldnt pressure test 100%. the bevels werent 100% identical to the factory seiko crystals. they would be able to be pushed in but wouldn't pass pressure and static...
Hey, from which supplier did you get a right crystal then
Yes! I haved all my Seiko's on sapphire. The Sxk007, Skx009, Sbdc029 Shogun, Zimbe, and Sdbc003 Sumo. Adds a whole of joy to the watch. Awesome. And hey, keep us posted about the hurricane. Please
It has passed us by and we got nothing! Thanks goodness! Excellent collection, congratulations!
man, I love the strap! very unique. love the mod too. have a Padi coming in and may modify it after watching this. great vid.
I want to thank you for the great video and also say that you're the real MVP! You helped me alot with my crystal swap on my Orient Blue Ray II! Liked and subscribed! Greetings from Sweden.
Can't wait for you to go on that big adventure.
Me too! Very soon!
definitely yes mate you have a beaytiful turtle in your hands love the strap too its kinda tigerish and a perfect combination with the gold numbered bezel insert
Looks stunning
The strap looks like a turtle shell and goes really well with the SRP775 imo.
great macro shots!
quick questions:
1- Is that a clear coat AR crystal?
2- Are you compromising water resistance when you change the crystal? would go to the swimming pool with that watch without testing it?
Thanks,
Nice. I have one for my SKZ from Crystaltimes. Lucky you didn't have to remove the bezel for the turtle. I did on my 009, then on a 173 and the 173's bezel was so hard to remove, I scratched the case.
Personally I would't worry about the pressure test unless you are going scuba diving.
BTW, I know you were local./
This is amazing, I like your work and your nice and humble personality 👌subscribed
Looks pretty great! And you were a lot more careful this time ;-)
Not as careful as I want to be but I'm getting there. Thanks!
If I could only swap the crystal from my SRP775 with the sapphire crystal from a Seiko Zimbe. I love the magnified day/date section.
Under The Bus n
You're getting pretty good at this, man! I also caught your Hamilton crystal replacement video, and I'm considering doing a crystal swap on my Khaki King, but since the replacement crystal is also domed, I'm not sure if swapping it out will reduce the glare enough to justify the expense in tools, new crystal, and potential for damage to my watch. Videos only tell half the story. Is there really enough of a difference in person?
For my watch, yes. I freaking love it now. That glare was the one thing I hated about it. The thing that i worry about it is water resistance with this crystal which wasn't made for it. I am going to get a pressure tester so you might want to hang tight on that until I do that test otherwise, just don't get it wet in anyway. :p
Awesome! Thanks for the opinion. I'll definitely wait to see what your results are.
Looks great! I have a few questions :
- Did you install the blue or clear AR crystal?
- Did the watch pass the pressure test for diving after the crystal installation?
- where did you get that strap from? It's totally awesome.
Blue AR coating .He has no water pressure tester
Pretty rad, gotta get a turtle soon, the mods are great!
Turtle power!
Hi, where did you get your double dome crystal with the turtle on it, can you please send me a link. Thank you
here you go www.crystaltimes.net
Sapphire is a must. Changed all my mineral crystals top. Mineral crystals always end up wit at least one gnarly scratch for me.
I am slowly doing all mine to sapphire. I'm addicted lol.
Super nice! Love the dome with the turtle! Must have. . .
Looks great, well done.
its a beauty nice watch. definitely face vision approved
lol. Nice.
Nice upgrade. Would recommend silicon grease for the caseback gasket though.
A quick question. With a few Seiko coming out with misaligned bezel triangle-pip/chapter ring lines and dials markers, how difficult was it to get everything to line up perfectly. I on,y ask because I am having to send back a Samurai, but my turtle is perfect. I don’t want to mess up my turtle.
When you remove the automatic movement, does the chapter ring stay in place within the case? If so that would make this so much easier. I love sapphire crystals. I also like the slight domed look as well.
I just want to get all my ducks in a row before attempting a Seiko, which I have never done before.
I do have all the gear, I just want to enhance the watch, not detract from the aesthetics.
Thanks for your response.
I found the misalignment is because the chapter ring is fitted upside down. I took mine out and rotated it 180 degrees and the problem was cured
Good job! Love your strap BTW.
Good work man! I recently bought and SRP turtle with the manta ray dial with the cyclops magnifier and it came crooked! Rather than deal with seiko customer service and wait I just decided to change it to a sapphire crystal with AR coating. It looks great.
Great job on this mod, I might try one myself when I'm a bit more confident in my tinkering skills! Have you tried aligning the chapter ring on the turtles yet? If so do you know if I have to pop out the crystal before attempting that?
James I would love to know this as well
Thanks for the vid! Would you mind sharing your wrist size?
Hi there. Thanks for the intuitive video. It was a pleasure watching it. Did you have a tint on the crystal. I can't really see it. If yes what color was the tint. Looking to do exact the same thing to my watch. Thank
Great mod! I'll do it on my 775, thanks and stay safe!
Nice! Thanks!
congratulation for your work!
Hi. Have you considered also a bubble boy crystal (big bubble) ? Or a top hat ? What are your opinion on them?
Put a yellow Hirsch alligator strap on there and you will have one hell of a watch.
Absolutely YES !!!
Looks good but I'd always think the etched turtle was a smudge or a scratch......and now you will as well :)
My god I LOVE this watch!!!!!!
Looks great!
that was fucking awesome dude...so so sweet i just subscribed
That strap looks perfect on the watch.
K. I live in Missouri. How long does shipping from "CrystalTimes" take; average? Again, your info and vids are so helpful.
Thanks for sharing this video. I’m curious if it was necessary for you to remove the bezel in order to have the crystal to sit flush in the case. I noticed the crystal got stuck half way before the camera cut off in your video. My model has the IP coating on the bezel so if I could avoid scratching the watch from removing the bezel the better. When I installed my crystal for the skx013 I had to remove the bezel due to clearance issues with the crystal. Any help would be appreciated.
Great video ! Can you please tell me how you removed the crown ? did you just unscrew it or push down ? Thanks
wow!!!! how much is the double dome for the 775? And where did you get it bro?
just got my srp775 and was curious as to what this would look like......parts ordered
Just bought a seiko king turtle bit hate the magnifier. Any way of removing the magnifier without using a torch lighter? I may just have to swap the sapphire for a domed one.
I really like it. strap is cool too.
Where did you get the strap from? Is very cool!
"It's a beauty"
Yes yes yes...well done looks amazing... Same done will it fit THE PADI srpa21k?
Awesome outro!
Thanks, Ryan! Sweet profile picture!
Thanks! It was a franken custom on eBay. Wish Seiko did more outlandish stuff like that
very nice
Jeez man, you have one headed your way and we have one headed our way :(
Blah! Freakin hurricanes! Be safe, man!
Can you turn the bezel next time. Looks great!
Like turtle back:) I want to but balls aren't big emough? Still might give it go? Turtle should have these from shop.
So dope!
Too awesome!!
Yo Kurt, where'd ya get that sweet sweet crystal? Love the engraved turtle!
I got it at crystaltimes.net. Send them an email about it if interested!
Great video. Tkz fir sharing. Can you pls share where the domed crystal can be bought?
I have that exact watch. What would you charge (parts included) to do that mod to mine?
App on phone says 1 ms off but 6 seconds 2 days? To wind or not to wind? Anyone' know. Contradiction and if cannot why option to wind?
I might do this to a Seiko PADI. Cheers.
did you get a tinted AR coating on the crystal?
I really want to this on my own. But video unfortunately does not show putting the movement back in and lining it all up. I think that's pretty important. Yes I know the obvious answer it to do all in reverse but video showing steps is important
Isn't the turtle upside down?
Sweet!
Where'd you get that leather strap?
Yes!!!
I'm contemplating on doing this to my new watch, but have some more confidence in yourself. I lost count of the number of times you said "I'm not sure or I don't know." That doesn't really sit too well with the people watching your video.
1.5 or 2 mm your crystal watch..??
So nice
really cool !!
Thanks, Topang!
hallo, what color AR coated that sapphire crystal?thank you
Can i change the glass in seiko service center in my country? Thank you
Did you say thinga-ma-smackle? Cool glass.
Lol. I think I did.
I am always worried when you remove the movement while its running.. I would let it uncharge before.
Great job however!
This is why you folks are the best. I didn't even think of letting it completely unwind first. I will absolutely do this from now on. Thanks!
Where did you get that strap from?
hope you get through the hurricane okay bro.
We did. It veered north and only gave us a small amount of rain. hah! Thank goodness!
Cowabunga Dude! 🐢
Need pizza!!
nice
nice!
dope!!!
Nice except for the strap. Bracelet, rubber, nato, zulu, all of those would be better IMHO. Thumbs up!
yeah !!!!!!
Awesome...
=p Thanks!
If you take the back off won't it not be 200m water resistant?
That is always a concern but if done right, it shouldn't. That is why I'm getting a pressure tester to be sure.
+minitwatch I was about to ask about that. knowing that the crystal isn't seiko certified and that you've opened that turtle up, how confident would you feel taking that turtle down them depths. great video as always though. keep it up. :)
About as confident as with any of my watches: 0% :) I don't like to get any of my watches wet for any reason. Well, there is one exception: my GShock. I have taken that thing apart time and time again and it has not once failed while swimming. I've never changed the gasket too! Despite that, these crystals meet or exceed OEM specifications. As long as it's done properly, it should be good to go. I think a lot of people need to have visual confirmation before taking the plunge and I don't blame them. The tester is coming and it will be glorious!
that looks great! ! I need tools and crystals
yes yes! Thank you!
Great vid. Stay safe (:
I will try. Thanks, man!
We will see if you're careful this time!
Lol. I love the play-by-play commenting!
minitwatch 😂😂
Nice
awesome
Thanks, Kevin!
Anyone know where can I get an sapphire crystal glass for Seiko snzf17? It's sea urchin
Can you tell me where you got the crystal from??
Nevermind..
I want a SRP777 bezel for my SRP775!
Jim Snyder good idea, check out dlw watches
Got like 3 turtle here, one japanese one Malaysia one the zimbie.
This sounds like a Miami accent. Doral over here.
I think the domed crystal has actually taken away from the identify of what makes a Seiko Turtle such a nice looking watch. The original flat crystal harks back to the iconic SKX divers and contrasted really well with the curves of the cushion-shaped case. With the domed crystal, the watch now looks too 'blobby' for want of a better adjective.
You've changed the look of the watch, but you have taken away from it's character and identity.
I see what you're saying. I am looking at it right now and I absolutely love it. I have, for me, added to it's character and attached my identity to this watch. Cheers!
No worries dude. As the Bentley Rhythm Ace song says; "If everybody looked the same, we'd get tired of looking at each other".
BTW. I think the crystal swaps on the Hamilton and Seiko look great and add depth to the character of both watches.
I think if you saw it in person, you might at least think it's okay :p. Again, I see what your'e saying. I might get another turtle just to have one bone stock. That being said, I hope to also try out a low dome and a flat AR on this watch. I'm also going to get a pressure tester to be legit! I don't wanna half-ass things :)
Yeah, it's always difficult making judgements based on pics and vids. I think a shallower dome would work well on the turtle though, as it would be a bit more subtle and not dominate the overall look of the watch as much. ;)
To feed your addiction, I think you should mod the lens on your Invicta Pro Diver next. Then move onto modding the bezel, dial, hands, etc. There is a whole community out there devoted to modding the Pro Diver.
