- George Washington McLintock, "GW" to friends and foes alike, is a cattle baron and the richest man in the territory. He anxiously awaits the return of his daughter Becky who has been away at school for the last two years. He's also surprised to see that his wife Katherine has also returned. She had left him some years before without really explaining what he had done, but she does make the point of saying that she's returned to take their daughter back to the State Capitol with her. GW is highly respected by everyone around him, including the farmers who are pouring into the territories with free grants of land and the Indians who are under threat of being relocated to another reservation. Between his wife, his headstrong daughter, the crooked land agent and the thieving government Indian agent, GW tries to keep the peace and do what is best for everyone.
Wealthy rancher G.W. McLintock uses his power and influence in the territory to keep the peace between farmers, ranchers, land-grabbers, Indians and corrupt government officials.

I think this was one of the most enjoyable movies John Wayne ever made.Itbhad a little of everything drama, comedy, and more

I preferred The Quiet Man myself, but this comes in a close second and I think is the more family friendly movie, if you don't mind spousal abuse of women. The Quiet Man he was abused, until he wasn't so quiet. 😊
This is probably the easiest of all the John Wayne westerns to watch, clean and wholesome with quite a bit of old Hollywood humor to go along with it. The best scene, by far, has to be the mud fighting.
And don't forget spousal abuse 😅 Although in all seriousness, him dragging her across emerald green for miles would suck more in my opinion 🤣

It was my grandpa on my dad's side for me. Anytime we visited, he was watching the Duke, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
What else wold you expect from A hero. My favorite part is when John Explain to his daughter what it’s like when a man and woman Loves each other to me that’s the best line ever.

Me too. He's still one of my favorite actor all these years after his death. I loved him in nearly every movie he did, except McQ. I wasn't fond of that movie, mostly I guess because I always saw him as a Cowboy, which he played so well. I miss the time when we had clean movies with no realistic violence, no foul language and people kept their clothes on. And the comedy was pure clean fun like in this movie.

This movie was one of my dad's favorites. We quoted it all the time. What I think is interesting is that this whole movie is like an epilogue to those old classic westerns. What happens after the hero rides off into the sunset? He sets up his business, raises his family, and deals with mundane problems.
They say they made a mistake releasing this movie to everyone, but it might be genius as most kids and grandkids never heard of John Wayne so wouldn’t ever think of buying most of his great movies!!!!

Parents made us with this when we were kids sometime in the late 80s or early 90s. We were sure we'd hate some old western. Turns out we all loved it.

This movie is very funny, with no computer graphics, no cellphones, no Cars explosions, just actors and a rich story and still a great movie 60 years later. John Wayne is 54 yo and looks like 60 ..
Thought it was all about bang bang with John Wayne but John Wayne is still classic. I guess this movie is just trying to get the message across about how great America is, and how big-hearted US is. I love it. 💝

This movie is the best and my 2nd favorite is "Operation Pettycoat", with Cary Grant I was born in London, England at end of 2nd world war. There was much prejudice against Americans then but my father would not let me hear of it. He spent his first naval years in the far eastern fleet from 1932-39 and being poor he said Americans were the kindest people he had met. He loved western movies and I wish he was here now so he could watch them on you tube. On my travels I have found Americans the best I have traveled with. Love Ya

OK, he only said that because he was jealous that he was not the one who kissed her. Stephanie Powers was also very good in that movie, and it was obvious that they would become engaged soon after he spanked her, and after he had kissed her for the first time. And the young couple also cheered when her mother got spanked, probably because they knew that it was necessary for the happy ending - and knew that a spanking could get a good result. Don't for get that - young girls and especially young men even today.

Well, I just watched this movie for the first time.....WHY DID I TAKE SO LONG TO SEE THIS FILM???????? With the exceptions of "True Grit" and "The Shootist," this is the best John Wayne film I've seen.
I find it fascinating that all of John Waynes' early movies start with him showing up with no horse & carrying his saddle.
Shakespeare in the Wild West with an excellent cast led by John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara with laughs a plenty. It’s a classic.

My dad loved westerns too. I use to watch them with him. I loved the mud fight in this movie, but also the falling down the stairs scene was very funny too. And when Maureen cracked him over the head with the whiskey bottle, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I miss my dad and wish he was here to watch these westerns again with me.

Seen this movie countless times. Here today trying to take my mind off of the recent death of my husband. Maybe that’s why I don’t think I’ve ever paid this much attention. I mean, I’m here because I knew this film would at least make me smile some & it did. But I don’t think I ever realized how EPIC this movie really is! Soo many cool & hilarious things happening all the time, sorta like several shows in one. Yes. Definitely helped.

Love McLintock. You should have shot him GW when you all were younger. Don't you just love Drago. I love the way he sounded when he was talking. Every western he played in he had the same voice tone. Edgar Buchanan aka Barney in this movie and Uncle Joe in Petticoat Junction was always the same. Every picture he was the same, a rip off con- artist lol. The both of them were great actors.
The actor who played Drago was also the voice of Francis, The Talking Mule movies and the voice of the cartoon Foghorn Leghorn.
