NO MORE WAVERLY?? | Walmart's NEW Hello Hobby Chalk Paint VS. WAVERLY Chalk Paint | Is It As Good???

  • NEW Hello Hobby VS WAVERLY CHALK PAINT. If you’re like me, your Walmart is no longer carrying Waverly Chalk Paint. Which is extremely sad in my opinion. They have replaced it with a new chalk paint called Hello Hobby. From what I have gathered, Walmart is no longer carrying Waverly Chalk Paint, and they have come out with their own line of chalk paint. I have had a lot of viewers tell me their Walmarts still carry Waverly, and then a lot of others say theirs also no longer carries Waverly and they now have Hello Hobby. I have searched online for Waverly, and it is super limited on what I can get as well as marked down, which leads me to believe they are phasing Waverly Chalk Paint out.
So in this video, I am going to compare the two paints together. Waverly Chalk Paint is super popular in the crafting world, so I had to know if the new Hello Hobby Chalk Paint came close to the quality that Waverly Chalk Paint has.

Hey Liz! I reached out to Plaid, who is the makers of Waverly chalk paint. They told me that some Walmarts made some changes to thier modular program so if you don't see it at your normal Walmart then it is likely available at a near by Walmart and you can always order it online! So Waverly isn't going anywhere, you just might have to go to another store or order online at Walmart or Plaid online. (I reached out on thier Facebook page but can share the screen shot of thier response to anyone who is interested) 😍❤

So typical that they're replacing a popular, quality product with a lesser quality imitation for the same price. Just wait though, the price will go up *real* soon. It's how they roll! I wish I didn't have to shop there at all, but... Waverly!
Fortunately, the three stores near me all have plenty of stock on their shelves, so I will definitely be stocking up before it's gone! I would like to say if anyone needs any, we who are fortunate to still have access to it could send some to those in need, but with USPS prices going up *again* in August, it'll probably cost an arm and a leg just to send one bottle! Still might be worth it though.... ;)

I live in a pretty dusty area, and I don’t think any paint would hold up to me washing it, however, I have seen the homemade chalk paints covering better, on wood and other things. I also like the fact that you have way more color choices. I don’t think waverly has the best color choices, I prefer the Folk Art chalk paint color choices better, than Waverly. The few Waverly colors, that I have bought, are horribly separated, so they must be sitting a long time, in my store, or in their facility, unless that is just something that happens to that paint. Walmart is probably saving money by shipping a cheaper product from China. I have compared the Waverly to the Hello Hobby and there’s no comparison in my opinion. I’ve seen some good reviews on FolkArt brand and have ordered some to try out. FolkArt is made by Plaid too.

Thanks for the comparison. As a long time tole painter, midnight was always a beautiful dark blue. ☺ I love Waverly chalk paint but when I use the antique wax, it took a long time to dry and would stay sticky also. That is very frustrating. Not sure if I'll try the walmart brand. Again, Thanks for sharing.

If you look at true chalk paint waxes, you would want it to stay wet or sticky longer, to truly antique something. You may want to distress something, with a chippy brush, and have it dry, right away, but, to truly antique something, it would be better to have a waxier product.

I noticed that Hello Hobby is manufactured in China. That makes it a cheap, junk paint and if they sell it for the same price as Waverly, they make out. I got one bottle to try but now I'm not sure if I want to. If it stinks I probably can't use it because I am sensitive to odors like that. I just got a lot of Folk Art Multi Surface acrylic paint. It's not chalk paint but will do until I can make my own or need real chalk paint. Thankfully I have a lot of Waverly left. I have one more Walmart to check. Thank you for sharing your review and thoughts about the two paints. There will probably be a place we can purchase the Waverly chalk paint moving forward, like Amazon. Walmart has been carrying Waverly home dec fabrics and I assume the paint was in colors to coordinate, so maybe the fabrics will go away, too. My observation is that the fabrics did not move very well, which costs money, and we know how Walmart rolls back prices on everything, and its gonna be a tradeoff. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have experienced so much that I don't like about Walmart ways, that I am choosing to go there less and less for anything. Expiration dates, for example, tend to be closer than I see at Safeway or Frys, the Buckeye Frys being an exception 🤦🏻‍♀️. Anyway, I ramble...

I have been trying to find Waverly Chalk Paint in "Fawn" (color) for a while. It's not available online or in-store (Yes, I know it's only sold at Walmart). I've contacted Plaid via email who only repeatedly say, "We continue to make Waverly Chalk Paint in Fawn for Walmart. We cannot control what Walmart decides to sell and not sell." So I guess somewhere there is this stockpile of Fawn paint that Plaid keeps manufacturing but Walmart isn't selling. (sarcasm) Walmart Rep just says, "We are out of stock on that" Gotta love when no one wants to get to the bottom of a matter and give you a REAL answer.!!

You know, it Could be, both, plaid and Walmart, working together to make more money. Everyone is quick to blame Walmart, who, I agree, is greedy, however, it could be Plaid is trying to make more money, as well. Both, Waverly and Folk Art, are made by plaid. The Waverly and the Folk Art are the exact same formula, of paint, except, in my opinion, Folk Art has better colors. However, since Folk Art is more expensive, maybe, Plaid is trying to make more money, too. You can’t just blame Walmart, because I have heard several different stories, that Plaid has told to various people, who have called them. So, who is lying?
