I prefer Google play than iOS Appstore, but for the record, Android market is still 100.000 apps less than Appstore. By the end of February, Google Play reaches 800.000 apps, while in June, Appstore was announced to have over 900.000+ apps.
I just got the phone yesterday. I have been a dedicated Android user for years now. But I really love this phone. It does everything I need it to do and more!

Great review thx, im making the switch from andriod, i looked it and it has all the apps i use, and most of all this camera is just amazing, my friend has it and tested it against my s4 and it wasnt even close esp in low light. Also i use the navigation alot and i was suprised to see how good nokia maps where.
that may be true, but it all depends on the lens and sensors as well. But for lumia 1020, their lens and sensors are top notch. So it should live up the expectation.
Honestly, with this kind of camera, it probably was obvious to the fellows over at Nokia that you wouldn't be watching those photos on the phone itself, thus saving money on the screen quality is legit. On the other hand, they also saved money on the processor, and this is not complementing the phone. The heavy data the camera captures in each shot is not processed in 0.5 a second and you have to wait between shots. Would consider buying the 1120 version where they'll hopefully improve the CPU!
This is a great phone. The camera is solid. The OS is smooth. I planned on switching back and forth between this and my HTC One but I took my SIM out of my One weeks ago and haven't switched back yet. I'm enjoying this phone too much.
You can also use an external microphone through the headphone jack in the top. Although to use a proper microphone output and to link in with the headphone 4 pole jack you're gunna have to do some soldering to butcher an adapter together, worth it though.
Personally, I never like using a Smartphone to do Photography. I mainly use a DSLR for serious Photography. But man, the Lumia 1020 is by far has the best Camera that I've ever seen in a Smartphone.
Wow, that depth of field feature is impressive for a phone. With so many features, I have to ask if ithe Nokia saves in RAW? One other thing...a high megapixel count doesn't equate to a great camera. That nighttime comparison with the HTC One at 3:54 says it all. HTC One is the phone to beat right now!
Oh really, because it's a windows OS and doesn't have millions of apps it makes it a terrible phone? People thinking this is a gaming console this is a PHONE. It have all the things you need. People complaining about apps, I bet that your android or your iOS have like +20 apps and you only use 3. I have a nokia lumia 1020 and it have all the things I need, and yes it have a instagram not a official client but it have one (and I think is better than the official client).

Windows phone lacks actually has a few instagram apps that emulate the real thing, such as 6tag or Instance, the former even supports video uploading. Whilst it does lack an official Instagram client, there's been third party alternatives for a while.
WIndows 8 is visually and intuitively a breath of fresh air compared to android and ios. However like you said, the app support isn't up to scratch yet.

I know that's odd, but yes, he is right. There are many factors influencing the quality (especially the lenses). I saw some cams with 12Mp worse than others with only 4. (forgive my bad english)
With a 41mp camera I would have expected a very high resolution screen (at least full HD or 2560 x 1600), quad core CPU and more storage, like 64GB - 256GB.
But you can make it an app you can download through google-ing it or downloading though the pc.Unlike Win Phone 8 where everything is only through the windows store.
If you want that Camera in a cheaper Phone you can go with the Nokia 808. That comes with Symbian - So Apps will be limited. If you can deal with that - Take the 808 instead of the 1020.
I would love to have a camera like that on my phone, its just it runs windows, being an apple fan if it was on android i would be happy to switch but i would keep my iphone as well

Yes even i thought its no point having such large sensor it will only make a huge picture. But they have used it well and brough lossless zoom and reframing. So yea the quality comes with the amazing carl zeiss lenses but all other image sharpness, details and lossless zoom come with the huge sensor. :)
Actually he is right. Your sensor might be 41 megapixels but if your lens and camera software along with the rest of the camera hardware is crap, your pictures won't be of high quality
Austin please upload some full resolution images somewhere like Dropbox. Really want to play with some untouched full resolution images from this camera.
I'll be skipping this phone waiting for it's next followup. I bought the Lumia 920 a couple of months ago and there's still alot to improve on the 1020. I'm pretty sure MS will improve WP to support higher resolutions and better processors to speed up the image processing. I have no doubt the 1020 will get a faster, better designed successor. Maybe the 1025 or even the 1030. I'll be waiting a couple more months or a year. My 920 isn't far from broken yet. Still snappy, still feels new.
I am way to spoiled with the 1080p display on my S4 although when the app selection gets better AND Windows starts getting 1080p displays I will strongly consider switching!
If only you could have it all... quad (or octa) core/1080p screen/front facing speakers/build quality/battery life/expandable storage/insane 41mp camera. with a price of *insanity*. If only if only :(

Apple has plans for their next iPhone and iPads to have 128GB storage. There are 256GB+ flash drives and SD cards available. The technology is available, they're just drip feeding it to the consumers as they make huge profits. I'll keep dreaming, maybe about nano tech.
The unofficial instagram apps do everything the real Instagram apps on iOS and Android do. The WP community is different. The thing with Windows Phone is that 3rd party clients that can do the job, are essentially seen as the "make do" app for that service. So if Google created an official CZcams client, there's no guaranteeing that it'll be favoured over the 3rd party YT apps (unless it's got a special UI and some vital functions you only get on the desktop version).
Okay, everyone is spamming you and saying you're stupid, but you aren't necessarily wrong in some cases. Yes this phone does happen to have lots of megapixels and good quality, but just because something has a lot of MP doesn't mean it's higher quality. apps there is instance and metrotube which i actually favour above the official apps (instagram and youtube) and about specs a dual core isnt NECESSARY to run wp8 whereas android NEEDS it and can still be a bit laggy...and no one is talking that the iphone 5 processor is a 1.2 and not even a 1.5 like the lumia....
nice review austin... i dont get why people are slating windows phone.... i use wp and im happy to use MS office and nokia exclusive apps (no android doesnt have these so i too can complain) HERE maps is by far imho the best mapping service free voice nav and offline maps (try doing that with no/bad signal with google maps if youre really lost) and i live in the caribbean and i was quite surprized to have voice nav with the correct streets...
Seriously? Windows phone has the best instagram availible for any mobile platform, it is made by Rudy Hyun, and it is in beta right now. It is even certified by Instagram, so it has all the normal filters. The app is called 6tagram, and will be availible in less than one week.

It has a led light as well for focusing, which you can use as a 'torch' or video light.. right next to the xenon flash. *sigh*
