  • Meditation from Cycle Five of The Noble Art: From Shadow to Essence Through the Wheel of the Year (Llewellyn Worldwide, October 2021), read by author Tiffany Lazic.
Introduction to the meditation from book excerpt:
"Every tradition has its method of communicating with the Divine, some more tangible and material than others. Hindu tradition involved “pujas” which translates as “worship” or “consecrate” and may be derived from the word meaning “flowers”. South American Shamans, specifically Peruvian Shamans, perform an ancient ceremony called the despacho which translates as “sending a message”, along the lines of “sending a dispatch”. Though there are many types of despachos, they all carry the sense of communicating with the Divine, specifically from a place of gratitude for the understanding of our place in the very fabric of life. The Ayni Despacho specifically has reciprocity or balance as its focus, recognizing that when we are out of balance, the world around us will be out of balance. This acknowledgment of interconnection and intention of being in right relationship with the world is expressed through the creation of a mandala crafted of natural elements, a prayer of gratitude offered to the Divine. Tibetan Buddhism has a similar practice of connecting with the Divine through the creation of a sand mandala. Approaching the mandala as a cosmic map that positions the human in relation to the Divine, these sand mandalas are recognized as temporary constructs, reflecting the impermanence of life, to be destroyed upon completion.
Whether despacho, puja, sand mandala, or prayer bundle, the way in which we communicate with the Divine speaks volumes to our relationship with Self. "
