" I am happy in Kolkata...... Why will I go there and play music that I don't like..." The words just brought me to tears, really thought provoking words he did say. Well done to the guys who made this video, great work truly ❤
We are trapped in the Bollywood maze so we miss our greatest legend how many listen to Ravi shankar or anoushka shankar nowadays.Nandan Bagchi the other man in the vedio is also a great musician from Bengal. Try to make an episode on Amit Dutta the best Indian guitarist anyday.
be positive.scenes r changing,,lots of talented indian bands r performing.lots of clubs r openning n fest is happening.in every country,,right thing is happened only in right time.just never give up hope
I am from Calcutta in spite of being born and raised there I have got to know so much about my city from your channel. I have seen every videos of your related to calcutta and others as well and it's so beautifully presented. Being away from home in another country your videos is a sort of refuge when I feel homesick. .
I really enjoyed engaging in a conversation with the legend back in 2014 in this very room. A feeling so ecstatic! With his demise, jazz scene in Kolkata died a horrendous death!
"I regret it now"... His expression brought me to tears... I mean...how could a legend like him suffer in near-penury?? I guess something's really wrong with the music in India.
I was 9 years old when I first touched a guitar, and today I realize how lucky I was to have learnt it for 6-7 years straight under a legend. I still remember him playing the guitar, he was so into it that he had no idea whatsoever or whoever's standing at his doorstep. It was an honour to have learnt it from such an implacable legend. He might have passed on but his music will live on forever.
I see lot of love and regret in his eyes when he says “ I regret it now” . Regret because of the present condition and Love because he loved Park Street and JAZZ both so much that it got reflected in his moist eyes......but those who have the fortunes to listen to him and some lucky chap like me who even danced to his tune at The Chowringhee Bar knows what a magic he would create with his nimble fingers on the frets.....sheer magic ! He is a legend and a true music lover will always remember him.
Had the Indian Film industry incorporated elements like Jazz music, this Gentleman could have had a house in Bandra, Mumbai probably in Carter Road or Mount Mary Road
4:50 what a honest gentleman. 3:33 Exodus and the death of Calcutta. We all left the city well into the late 1990s. There was nothing for us to get excited in Calcutta. Our beloved city, let us down.
I am extremely sorry for the loss of a very good Ole friend from the Times of Mocambo & Blue Fox /Great Eastern & Grand hotel nights ! and times spend together on & off. Its difficult to forget musicians like Carlton, Arthru Gracias, my close friend Lew Hilt, Brass Gonzalez, my very close friend amazing Jazz drummer Clive Hughes who played with fantastic Tony Banks -composer, the incredible Pam Crain & Don Saigal!! and not to even forget an ex Berklee Music graduate ...Damien . I send my heartfelt condolences to his family members and close friends from way up north far away from the land of Snow! May God Bless All.
Ppl alike are an inspiration and show us the way to live life on our terms and to its fullest....hats of to u sir !! great channel..love it more so coz most of the content posted of late are on Kolkata ...my city ! :)
I think such videos should be published way before so that people actually recognise such great legends of India and support them to sustain the music. I know the video was very well made with all the emotional moments with background music but what is the use of all this if the person is already gone and we couldnt do much to serve him.
"Bollywood took over now". This line sums it all up. Wake up people. Stop listening to crap in the name of music. If contemporary bollywood music loses it's popularity only then the real music can take over.
Jazz will be the new future of music... Fashion and music are just reinvented. Just follow some Japanese and Korean existing pop culture you'll get a glimpse.
Park Street and its influence of bourgeois decadence on revolutionary youth of Calcutta attracted a 90% tax from the revolutionary Government of the time...R.I.P Carlton Kitto
it is a figurative comment over his excellence in jazz music nòt a literal one.pls try to understand.give others some allowance.unneßary harshness may pls be avoided. Please Thanks
Jazz is great music. But, suits and ball dances, 'Rights of Admission' reserved are classist and elitist. Calcutta has always favoured snootiness, owing to the erstwhile false sense of security that is was as important as London. The press, the media, the music scene, Kolkata's advertising community teems with such elitists
Carlton Kitto might be great....but Sumith Ramachandran is 2nd to none.....right now....Sumith has obliterated all guitarists of India. Carlton taught Sumith too
I get my guitar lessons for sir Carlton kittos student(my teacher),jazz is still alive in Kolkata❤
Mine too. I learnt guitar from one of Carlton's student
Me too
@@neelbis me too
Mine too... Chhoton Banerjee is my Beloved guruji... One of the greatest students of Sir Carl...🙏

And now i discover my love for jazz being a student,
Wish i was born earlier to experience this.

Boolywood came like a big wave and swept away every other form of music… it’s the rise of the film stars that killed the radio stars…

Nobel prize for being a guitarist? Why do we Indians love exaggerating so damn much.
Our dear foodie is a good deal tipsy, isn't it? Or is he on a high?
It is a joke
