The fact that you can self-host your game and play entire campaigns inside your local network is one of the top selling points for me! Your commitment to embracing third-party devs and publishing a robust API is also commendable!
And with Ngrok you can host games over the internet very easy.
I just tested and played with a player in another country and was so easy to install everything.
I bought a copy in the early days of FoundryVTT after spending an ungodly amount on the other big boy local hosted VTT. Been out of the gaming for a bit and coming back to V11 it looks like they lived up to my hopes. I recently joined as a player and the DM was thinking of using a less well-designed alternative, so I let the DM know this existed and we're now configuring the server after they snagged their own license.
So does this mean that only the dungeon master needs to buy this?
Been looking into good map maker stuff for DnD and this looks good but is also pretty pricey. Hoping only one person needs to own it.
@@sheogorath6639 yup, 1 server license covers however many players / back up DMs if you run a west march style game. You can even have multiple different game worlds. You can only run one at a time, but if you have d&d on Monday and pathfinder on Thursday that's totally fine.
Your product stands out. The ability to host my own game and have all my data saved on my machine is a selling feature for me. Thank you for building this platform.
Been using Foundry for 2ish years now, and it's by far the best VTT available. It takes some setting up, for sure, but the sheer amount of modules and extras the community has made blows any other VTT out of the water. The best part? It's a ONE TIME LICENSE PURCHASE. You OWN the software. No sub fees, not extra BS. That alone was enough to make me a Foundry fanboy.
This overview truly captures the essence of FoundryVTT, and I must say, it's absolutely fantastic! Foundry is undeniably the most complete and user-friendly system out there, providing an incredibly supportive platform for the community to unleash their imaginations in virtual tabletop RPGs. It's the heart of the community that makes all of this magic possible. Personally, I run at least three different game systems on Foundry, and let me tell you, we are all enamored by how seamlessly the game unfolds on this platform. Whether you want a straightforward gridded dungeon with automated rolling, or if you want to dive into the realm of customization, tweaking every aspect of your tabletop experience, Foundry has got you covered. You can even create immersive multi-level isometric dungeons or add the perfect sound effects to your blasters-the possibilities are boundless and limited only by your imagination. Hats off to the FoundryVTT team! Much love!
This looks absolutely amazing, and I love that is is only a one time purchase. I will absolutely get this for my table when I have the extra money!
Foundry has been massively gamechanging for me. The interface is great, it has features I use a like a lot, the module system is robust and amazing. The *only* things I miss are faster drag and drop options for importing assets (which can partially be solved with plugins), and the ability for players to connect and edit their sheets when I'm not running the server, but by its nature means that won't be possible unless I get a dedicated server.
Honestly, the biggest positive for me was when I had an issue in Foundry vs in a competitor software. With the competitor, I brought up a bug to the devs in their discord. The response I got was the bug, as annoying and asinine as it was, was a 'feature' and thus would not be fixed or adjusted (or couldn't be fixed), and there wasn't any advice on how to work around it, and I was basically just blown off. With Foundry, when I encountered a similar issue, the community pointed me to the right direction for reporting, and one of the devs literally looked at it right then and there. He not only marked it to be fixed the next patch, but actually showed me how to edit one of the lines in one json file to fix the problem locally.
It's been a joy to watch Foundry grow over the past few years. Love this software and community.
now we just need tutorials on how to use the effects. But this program is a life saver
I've been using Foundry for almost two years now, and it's great seeing how it just keeps getting better and better.
I adore this platform! As a DM with several players joining from afar, Foundry VTT has been phenomenal in maintaining a quality equal to in-person sessions.
This is a great showcase! I've been showing my friends the 2021 showcase to try and get them onboard to learning this vtt with me. I've begun to dm for them and my main drive is to immerse them as much as possible, and from what I've seen in countless video's now Foundry is the way to go for achieving that. I look forward to showing them this shorter, more concise and well made video, and I look even more forward to getting to know this vtt, I've already bought it and I am actively looking up tutorials trying to learn ^^.
All the best wishes to you all, and I hope you're as excited for the future as I am. You've truly made a product that I'm excited to learn, and that's saying something for me. Thank you! ^^
There's SO MUCH you can do for immersion with Foundry. My current favorite module is Monk's Active Tile Triggers. It lets you set up complex if/then logic to build traps, interactive puzzles, informational bits, etc. It's SUPER powerful.
@@jakeconnelly2441 I've seen videos showcasing that exact module, and I'm really looking forward to trying it out and learning how use it! ^^
What a great show case. Much love
This is a great overview for newcomers, well done.
Actually an ad that I can say that everything is true. In addition, the community is one of the most welcoming communities I've ever met!
Been using FoundryVTT for Starfinder, and it's been absolutely fantastic. I've only scratched the surface of what's possible.
The absolute best VTT there is, and an essential part of my games. Cannot compliment it, or the community and skilled folks around it enough. Just amazing!!!
Great video! Well done.
A great trailer for a great piece of software! Highly recommended.
Foundry is an amazing piece of software that we at TCR use, to run our games, so hyped to update to V11
I have gotten foundry and messed around with some of the modules and effects. I wish i could do half of what they were showing but i lack the know how still. Foundry has become my favorite way to DM pathfinder. I would love to play at some point but maybe someone that plays in my group will run a game one day.
one time purchase and the amazing support and development. This gotta be one of my best purchase ever. And we play IRL even, so we don't even scratch the surface of features.
I'm still super new to dungeon mastery, but foundry has been a godsend.
I'm still wrestling with the feature set and ever growing stack of modules but I'm learning more every time I delve into the software.
So far I've only been using the software on a local network with my players sharing a big tv whilst I do the majority of controlling stuff from my laptop, but it's trivialised some of the more time consuming difficult aspects of running encounters with pen and paper.
There's always room for improvement and some counter intuitive elements that could stand to be addressed, but the updates keep coming, and the software is enormously rewarding once you get past the initially steep learning curve.
i just bought foundry, and i have so much to learn. any tips? i’m already having trouble with sizing maps… i’m sure i’ll figure it out with time
Is this grid-based only? Looks really cool!
I got foundry VTT a few years ago. Let me tell you that this is a powerfull tool for any DM. You can quickly upload a theater of the mind picture if improvisation is needed!
Can you elaborate? Are you saying it has powerful improv tools?
@@emuemu8428 Not really.
I'm saying that if the party deviates from what you have prepared and you need a picture for them to stare (theater of the mind setup) it can easily be done in a couple minutes.
Just grab something from your stash or web and upload it for the players to see.
In extreme cases you can also ask for a 5 minute break and prepare a simple battle map on the spot.
I've been playing with Foundry for a month or two now (self hosted). I am loving it. I have it setup for remote players as well as a "table" player for local play with a TV on the table.
I do wish it had direct full integration with Beyond because as thats where I've sunk so much money into; but I understand thats not a Foundry problem as much as a Beyond/Business problem. I know there are modules but its still not 100% (characters in a campaign roll in Beyond, it rolls in Foundry (with Dice So Nice), Build encounters on Beyond and then run them on Foundry. Make a change on Beyond it reflects in Foundry and vise-versa.
I am building out Dragon of Icespire Peak (DoIP) now with the included adventure add-on content (Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, Devine Contention). I just need to figure out how I can add subfolders for when I upload media so I can sort them (maps, handouts, etc) right now the y'all upload to the world's root directory.
I wonder if Foundry will end up having an Illuminated World system (its the system Candela Obscura run on).
Anyway enough rambling, I just meant to say I am loving Foundry, keep up the great work!
Ive used a lot of VTT's. Foundry is still leagues ahead in all departments.
Ooo i think this is the excuse ive been waiting for to set up a home lab
THE BEST VTT on the market and the "competition" is not even close!
Foundry is awesome as a developer I loved it. The fact that i can run it in my server is great and I like the one time payment with great features. I feel that they care
Great overview! I wonder what is the sfx module or functionality that adds that "movement" sound effect whenever a token moves?
Did you figured it out?
I discovered a way! But it takes work to keep it tidy
If you use the "Monk's Active Tile Triggers" module and create one (or several) INVISIBLE tiles on the map, and specify that: 'every time an Actor steps AND leaves the tile a certain sound plays', you can make the effect on any surface.
I haven't been able to executively test this method yet (maybe if many Actors move at the same time it will cause inconvenience?)
But I specifically used 6 different sounds (and distributed them into 6 tiles, which I then copy and paste into the rest of the map) to make sure that the repeated audio has some level of randomization (also put a margin of 70% chance of make noise when walking) all to avoid hearing a single sound that is always the same and repetitive, which would CERTAINLY make me and my players tired after a while.
So yes, you will have to find and download different sounds for each type of terrain, give these sounds a good treatment (preferably super short audios of 1 or 1.5 seconds), separate them into 6 or more variables, learn how to use the module as I mentioned, then create 6 tiles and configure EACH ONE of the 6, and then...! save them in your default templates and simply copy them and cover the parts of the map that should make that kind of noise!!
: )
Amazing.
I purchased Foundry and the Abomination Vaults premium content, I can't wait to play!
1:02 watching that little dude move around and have his sight altered made me actually shout "are you kidding me?!" Gonna try the demo just to make sure it's right for me, but I'm so sold.
worth every penny
OK. I'm sold.
are all the features shown now built in features or are some of these locked behind modules to add? awesome platform. all the recent updates, I havent been able to keep up on what is now standard. would live to see a more in depth setting up for dms videos for each section.
Only when they mention modules are they using modules, I think, tho I didn't know v11 introduced mask cutout for overhead tiles.
Baileywiki has some pretty good videos on setting it up.
Just purchased it. After long searching i chose Foundry just for its one-shot payment and pretty good reviews. After seeing this trailer i think it was more than just good pick. Later ill come back here and write how happy i am with it.
so how is it?
@@convects9656 It has a lot of versatility and you can find mod for almost anything. From automated attacks, custom animations, levels of building (which I love) to automated leveling. And i only mentioned free stuff so far. I didnt play any game so far but i tested basic connesction with friends.
In short, it has a lot of things I had to leard (and am still learning how it all works) but what you get in return is in my opinion definitelly worth it. Price is pretty much but it is one time payment.
Oh and one downside: It does not support making maps. You can add furniture and stuff but for floor you will need another software.
I' ve heard the GM set up requirements are heavy, there's a learning cliff, and the requirement to run a LAN is a struggle for some PCs. Also for me a $50 front gate is a serious barrier, but i'm interested. Is there a free "try before you buy" option?
What are the 3 main pros for Foundry?
What are the 3 main cons?
Foundry is very good for immersion games, though when lag happens, it can take players out of the experience. Plus the amount of steps just to roll an attack is needlessly complicated. Midi QoL is a great mod to fix that but I wish I didn't need that mod to run combat more smoothly.
Best VTT ever
Does this have to use the game systems listed, or can it be used with a custom system?
What module do they use to make that clock at the start of the video?
Great showcase, however all the sound effects added in post are a little misleading for what newcomers should expect from core Foundry...
Does it work with other ttrpgs or is it just pathfinder and d&d?
ok I'm convinced.. I was between this and roll 20 but this convinced me! one time purchase so I'm down.
Subtitles were missing (corrected), like Brazilian Portuguese, for example.
Does Foundry support card based TTRPG systems (like Faith or Malifaux: Throug the Breach)? Is it possible to use Foundry with a homemade custom rpg system?
I really really like this. but connecting my players to foundry tho is soooooo difficult and should be simplified.
I really can't comprehend the mindset of people who want to use a tool like Foundry VTT as a videogame, letting players move around freely and experience the game that way. So much visual stuff that is just seen at a glance without a word ever spoken... and as a result, are people really going to remember that? I appreciate it for its character sheet utility and other utilities and its usefulness for positioning and movement in a combat environment where you need spatial awareness, but running a whole campaign in that way and trying to procure maps and tilesets that 100% match your vision for the story you're trying to tell is an insane task.
Question: Can you download assets like DnD Xanathars Guide to Everything and Dungeon Masters Guide and then drag/drop like Roll20?
Does all my D&D Beyond material work with this software? Can I connect this VTT with my campaigns on Beyond?
I hope what we can get in future is the ability to customize loading screens. Set a Legally Destinct Evil Campaign Taking Place Within a Residence and make a map transition look exactly as it does in it's legally destinct no resemblance whatsoever video game Resident Evil.
I don't even play these games but I always like drawing inspiration from well-designed software with pro-consumer practices.
I love FOUNDRYVTT
Spectacular, but how well does it work as a local gaming board, as in a tabletop system?
Thank you.
That depends on what experience you want. You could have all you players around the table, each with Laptops, or what I do. My laptop for GM Screen and a TV hooked up with another laptop for a player screen.
It also depends on what level of player interaction you want. If you want full interaction you could do what I suggested and have mousemx give each player a mouse / keyboard for interacting, or you could just have the TV function as a display with no interaction.
Foundry can do almost anything, some things will require more work than others, but it's a great tool for all sorts of GMs.
@@gmchris4113 Thank you for the solid response. My thought was to have the game/player TV as the table with minis on it while I would control from my laptop behind GM screen.
@@ShockIndustryLIVE I've been using Foundry exactly like that for the past year or so, and it's been a great experience. You can either run Foundry separately on a PC or laptop that you connect to the TV, or use something like a chromecast to cast the game from your PC to your TV.
You can create two user profiles: One for the DM which you'll be using with a personal laptop behind the screen, and a Playercam profile that you run on another computer linked to your TV
@@ShockIndustryLIVE that is no problem at all ... in the basic part you would have only your GM stuff electronic for tracking while the Player have their normal sheet but could move the physical mini.
You could also create a 2nd User and give them access to all Players and use a 2nd device with a bluetooth mouse on the players table.
Another variant would be to use a mod that allows for mobile use --- while not perfect for full remote Play ... it works very well for Token movement/Battlemaps
If you want to heavily invest you could use 3rd party stuff that allows for tracking the physical handling back to foundry (with Bluetooth linked Dice and IR Sensor + plates that link a physical mini to an electronic Token in Foundry).
Looks like it supports more than DnD. I wonder if there is support for an action points based system. Ala Divinity original sin 2. I run a custom game in real life that is a hybrid of the two.
We absolutely support AP-based systems like Pathfinder 2e or our own in-house game system under development named Crucible!
I easily have put up to a 1000 hours into foundry and I love it! I just wish more effort was put into making it accessible to those who aren't PC savy. Most people barely understand how to open folders, let alone download the MANY mods required to make foundry truly worth it. Not hating, more of a 'wish more people could use it'.
i have found that all these engines have a high learning curve. I have foundry and havent taken the time to study it to be able to use it
So before I buy I have a question, Can you mimic the players screen on a second monitor? my party all comes over to my house to play and we like having everything on the big tv for the players to see but I want to keep the gm screen on my personal monitor, you can do it in arkenforge but i just bought dungeon alchemist and can't import those maps to arken. is this possible to do this?
You can easily create a player account to log into and access that via a different browser or even incognito tab. Then just cast that tab to the big tv or second monitor.
@@dmpunks thanks for the info! :)
@@JohnHenderson_R7P always welcome. Happy gaming!
@@dmpunks alternative option is have someone stream their screen to you if need be.
I bought foundry a few months back and never set it up and now i fear i never will.
This video fucking sold the shit out of me oh my lord
This seems awesome, but hard as hell to set up with all the options for a single "scene". Jeeze. I dont have a full time job to do this all week for an 8 hour session on the weekend.
How is support for AD&D 2nd Edition? It's what I play.
Hi, is there any showcase about mobile pov & interaction if is there is any ?
I am o my understanding mobile is not YET supported. The expected experience is best had on a PC / Laptop. Some tablets can get away with a decent experience, but it's not there yet.
There are a couple of modules for mobile. I remember one called simple mobile, but there are others. I've never used them though, so I can't tell if they're good or not
@@raf.raf. I believe the modules that you're referring to are TouchVTT and Mobile Improvements. Both modules are barely maintained and I would not suggest considering a purchase of the software depending on their function (or any module for the matter).
BUT you are technically correct, and under the right circumstances it can work... It's a giant pain though. If mobile is a make or break type of thing for whoever is interested, Foundry has expressed they will SLOWLY add support for it over the next few updates up till V14.
@@gmchris4113 To clarify, Foundry is adding support for TOUCH DEVICES not for Mobile - aka, there are no plans to make this work on phones but it will eventually work on non-mobile os touch devices (eg, a windows based tablet). Stuff like iPads are a big maybe (as of V11 FVTT does not load on iOS) and heavly depend on safari's support for webgl
Hey! That's not how Bless works in Pathfinder 2e! X)
How can I activate footstep sounds?
How can I play a game that I am not the DM on Foundry VTT?
A W E S O M E
What dice was used ad 04:20?
Probably the Dice so Nice module, in the video description
I think those are the Pathfinder dice in Dice so Nice
So i as a dm bought this. I create the scenario. What do my players need to do?
Do they each need their own purchased copy on a seperate PC or can they share?
Do they need to buy any rule sets?
Nope! Your players can all connect to your game for free using a modern web browser like Chrome or Firefox. No purchase or installation required!
@@FoundryVTT cool, thanks.👍
Maybe you can assist with a couple of problems.
I purchased and installed the T2000 core module. The store said it comes with something like 300 journal entries for the rules and such and over 470 item files, weapons, gear, etc. how do i access this information?
Also i tried to create a scene using the poland map. I adjust the grid to roughly fit the printed grid (can’t get it exact) click save and it jumps a half grid out. Whats going wrong and how do i fix it?
Scratch item one i worked out how to access the journal entries.
Does this support 3rd edition DnD?
The map overview was great but when it comes to tracking resources or automating game mechanics, there is a VAST difference between game systems. If you're playing D&D or Pathfinder, yes, you will have a very smooth experience. Otherwise your experience will vary wildly from system to system. While foundry makes things "possible" from the barest of perspectives (basically they provide a database and a system of updating clients) most features when it comes to game mechanics are implemented by open source projects with varying degrees of engagement. Be careful to check your preferred game system before choosing Foundry.
Isn't this true for basically every VTT, though? I'd still rather use foundry with its universal features for map building, lighting, organization and the like over something like roll20.
Can you make custom spells and abilties from our own world?
Yes, but if you want it automated or animated you need to either tweak an existing spell or write your own macro for it. You can also upload your own animations in for spells. It's really not that complicated until you do persisting effects.
Where are the best tutorials for this?
a good start is always "Encounter Library"
Baileywiki is pretty good
The GOAT
Who needs a table?
Step 1. Get a TV
Step 2. Get the Martial IR packet
Step 3. You have a Table running Foundry :) 😊
No gated features, except for premium content game systems that doesn’t often include core rule book PDFs not that I’m salty
Looks awesome, but 50 dollars?
I dont have that kind of money sadly :(
Why tf does everyone get bless during the combat demo :S?
Use the A.I. Luuukkee
Stopped working on my current Foundry game just long enough to watch the 2023 overview…
THE ABSOLUTE BEST.
A house divided looks sooo good. It is truely a shame it only available for dnd 5e and not for pathfinder 2e or it would be an instant buy.
😄 P r o m o S M
Why have i been using outdated laggy shit like roll20 when stuff like this exist...
"Please note that the Warhammer Fantasy one that they show up doesn't work unless you buy all the books through Foundry and then if you want to create anything custom that's too bad, f-k off and die." - from my friend when I show him this video
Quit using this after their last update broke everything I had made over the last year. No thanks.
lol
aboveVtt is free and better
lol
As far as I can tell, it also requires the use of DND Beyond. Not everyone wants to play D&D and would rather use pathfinder, savage worlds, etc.
Preferable for more systems and customization.
auto-rotate module still works in v11?
