  • VR short for Virtual Reality is already shaping & transforming almost every field in our lives. Major technological breakthroughs underwent in 2020 in virtual reality and by 2025 the industry is expected to reach about $88 billion in revenue.
VR headsets will possibly morph ever so closely to a lense. One major obstacle the virtual reality industry needs to overcome is locomotion. While common locomotion methods such as joystick walking and teleportation are the fundamental ways of moving around the virtual world, this sector leaves much to be desired.
Luckily there are many companies focused on this issue such as Kat walk with their latest omnidirectional treadmill called Kat Walk C. Full body haptic suits are also in development such as the teslasuit. Many other VR companies are also focused on bringing the sense of touch into virtual reality. In this video you will learn about the latest technology, games, software & hardware, driving the VR market forward.
We are living in interesting times. It will be fascinating to see if by 2025 VR will reach high tech as we've seen in the movie ready player one.

This isn't nessecarily technology, but the impacts on education is the thing I'm most excited about. VR, as you pointed out in the video, will likely be a major part of education in the future. And that's extremely exciting. The merging of potential U.S. education system changes (let's be honest, the system itself sucks right now) that incentivizes interactive learning and VR will help propel ecucation into a better world. I'm honestly jealous I'll have to watch my future kids experience that stuf, and not me. Then again, VR will be able to be used for personal use, and since I'll be learning all my life, the fun doesn't have to end after high school, college, or graduate school.
Documentaries and well-made educational videos are an exellent asset to education now, as non-universal as they are now (sadly). With the proper funding, VR can expand that interactivity to immense possiblies.
If VR does impact education positivly and in big ways, the future of it will be exciting.

I do not know if i want it or if I should fear it, but when we can hook it up to our neocortex. Then we will have true VR. What we have now is basically just a upgraded virtual boy. But it is frightening as well. Because while that can make your wildest dream come true, it could also make your wildest nightmare come true, and consider we have a evil feminist ideology dominating this world, and they are hardly the most liberal people in the world, but more like, be like us or get oppressed, and they are definitely giving people different value, so they do not want inclusion. They may say that they are liberal and all that, but they are as far away you can get from that, and when I say liberal i do not mean usas version of it, i mean the true version of it, liberal as in freedom.
But yes VR and AR will change the world. Smartphones that people are obsessed by now, i think will disapear in like 10-20 yrs and be replaced by AR glasses/lenses.

I think far enough into the future a lot of people will basically live and work in a VR universe. They will reject reality in favor of their VR existence because the VR universe will be so much more compelling and interesting than the real world. In this VR universe, all modes of transportation would be irrelevant, except for entertainment purposes. You can obviously "teleport" to any location you have access to instantly. People would make money in a wide variety of ways just as in the real world. There will likely also be services that integrate VR with reality, such as VR restaurants that will deliver food (via high-speed drone) to your real location so you can eat real food while enjoying the restaurant's atmosphere and enjoying the company of your real or AI friends. Society would likely divide between those that primarily live in VR and those that reject the technology in favor of a simpler way of life.

    • @MusicAutomation
      @MusicAutomation Před 2 lety +2

@@Lackifall Yeah, probably, the future is notoriously difficult to predict. There are historical examples of both over-estimations and under-estimations. It comes from fundamental misunderstandings of physics as well as the economic driving forces that shape markets toward the adoption or rejection of new products.
However, the world I described basically already exists. This “VR universe” is the internet, and more recently, the “metaverse.” We already see mass adoption of remote-work, ownership of virtual assets purchased with real money, instant teleportation (hyperlinks), delivery of food and pretty much anything else with a button click, etc. It stands to reason that all of this will be carried into VR and iterated on in interesting ways.
What I don’t see happening is any large scale haptic devices, like full-body VR suits, ever entering mainstream adoption. This is simply because you can never overcome the problem of inertia, nor can you build a system cheap enough to be affordable by the masses while still creating an immersive physical experience. But where we will continue to see compelling advances are in the areas of graphics, physics simulation, and AI. Because of this, we will have environments so interactive and realistic that they will be visually indistinguishable from reality. There are no laws of physics that prevent that. And there is plenty of economic demand, as evidenced by the $180 billion gaming industry, to continue pushing development in those directions.

She's been playing games for over 20 years, so I seriously doubt 2 weeks of VR would make any difference. You're underplaying how serious the condition is, or you've never met someone with a severe case of it. Some people just aren't wired for certain games, I guess.

I get motion sick, when I use the joystick to move, but never when I'm Physically moving myself around.
VR tricks your mind into thinking what your seeing is real. The motion sickness comes, because when you move by joystick, and your mind doesn't understand, and you start to lose your balance. So, you constantly have to remind yourself, that everything is fine, but your mind isn't convinced, and it starts to become to much for you to handle.
Getting your VR legs, is basically, repeatedly forcing your mind to experience this new kind of movement, with the hopes, it will learn, and it will adapt to it.
There are plenty of great games that don't cause motion sickness, that protect your brain from dealing with that experience, and that's the majority of the games for VR. So, there really isn't real reason not to get VR. I think your GF will enjoy the VR experience.

There is a growing realization of the inefficiency of schools where the vast majority of knowledge can be accessed online at lower cost in both time and money.
What needs to be done is to structure the information in a compelling way, making the process enjoyable and efficient. This would require an in-depth knowledge of the Human psychology and, given we vary more or less from one to another, a personal AI, a personal "Aristotle" adapting the stored knowledge for every individual using collected data.
There is more: while theoretical knowledge is necessary, it represent one half of how we acquire knowledge, the other half being practical; put-the-theory-into-practice knowledge, a savoir-faire gained trough, mostly, trial and error. This is where the VR will be the most useful. Imagine a realistically simulated chem lab where a learner could experience in a 0 consequence environment, or a simulated garage where learners could practice mechanics on all kind of machines without the material cost of needed for it to be done IRL.

Developers need to understand that in VR the sound alongside optics are fundamental, you might get away with repetitive sounds in a desktop environment but it is not the same way in a real-world environment, when it comes to sounds the golden rule needs to be a long as possible repetitive loop, a different tone, and a difference in decibels for every sound in part, this way atmosphere can feet in and become truly immersive since we are not used to same repetitive sounds in reality

The movie *The Congress (2013)* perfectly describes an upcoming era of digital actors and augmented reality with Robin Wright starring as herself in a fictional story about an unsuccessful career of an actress. She is offered her "one last job" to get 3D scanned, the directors are buying "the rights to her person as a celebrity" to cast her in any movie of their choice and she is required to step back from fame and not associate herself with anything these movie makers will produce so she can fully focus on her family.
20 years later a chemical AR experience is widespread. People can fully dive into an augmented reality by inhaling chemically engineered pheromones to change their perception of their environment into a cartoon world, they can make their surroundings and their own body look whatever they like and share it with others by releasing these pheromones although everyone's experience is totally unique. Robin enters the "first fully animated city", Abrahama, where pheromones are released into the air for a continuous animated reality for everyone.
It's such a beautiful movie with great visuals, loving story deserving more recognition. It was an out of this world experience watching it for the first time under the influence of visual substances (not that I would recommend drugs, that would be morally wrong, but I guarantee it'd double the impression)

I’d love to see vr come in the form of neural link. Would be cool to not need a headset, gloves, body suit, treadmill, etc. just close your eyes and activate brain integration. Body goes into a sleep paralysis, and image projection happens inside the head. Like you do in rem sleep. You’d be able to feel complex textures, smell, and audio would be just like being in a real world. I think that would be the best most affordable and immersive way to go.

As a VR dev, I am noticing that there are design philosophies that are materialising as a result of gradual advancement of it's tech. The word "Arcade-y" is thrown around a lot with newer popular VR titles, and this is because the philosophy is to mix elements of immersive realism with various training wheels that dampen the technical concessions made i.e stick movement, the choice between head or hand locomotion, stick turning, no collision between hands and walls, an aiming reticule projected onto the environment, and so on.
I think these training wheels that allow VR titles such as Solaris and PopOne to be so gameplay focused will evolve and change with the hardware moving forwards.
A decent sized step seems to be coming to VR next year with deca gear VR arriving. Eye and mouth tracking, hip tracking, and cheap Valve Index clone controllers for about half the price of the index is a really compelling advancement in the medium, and maybe (haven't checked yet) will open the biometrics of the user to be used in games and apps for things like authentication.

When a virtual soldier die, his ID or some identification code or something will be changed to 'dead' or erased, in this way no one can put it back and reinforce the army (so no risk in an 'infinite army' or a war without an end).
In this way, no one die. Sound kind of a game but still it looks better than an actual war.
(Of course, I'm not saying this method would be accepted by everyone and real wars with death and blood would not happen or that countries would not real atack while in virtual war, but the virtual war looks like a real good and practical solution)

It really amazing the potential for VR, right now its in its infancy stage, the problem is demand, mainly the graphics, and processing power needed for bigger title games linked to a PC, otherwise they are always small indie games. Of course advancements in these types of games could create more demand and it will but, the biggest factor is the processing power these small units have for what everyone wants which is life-like realism in terms of graphics. That being coupled with the 6 degrees of motion where talking HUGE amounts of computing power, however with the release of 5G where enormous amounts of data can be streamed from servers far from you in, say, Googles VR Servers or something, then they can have the best most powerful computers and you pay a subscription on their cloud gaming platform and run games not even on your device, rather than you needing the hardware, the device just acts like the monitor that you view your actions and commands given to the servers via 5G. However, this will need to be marketed as such and bring awareness to this new feature when someone, like one of the VR companies figure out how to do this. 5G is already being rolled out in big cities, big games just arent focusing that much on it. I think people will go out and drop $1k to have an experience like that if it existed.

"Who would have thought that gameplay for once would help you fight obesity instead of intensifying it?" This is actually what I love about VR, as a fitness junkie and a gamer, who also likes martial arts and dance... I'm not interested in any VR game that you play sitting down. I was already in good shape, but now in addition to my normal daily workout, I get a bit of extra cardio in the evenings, and for hours on the weekends, with games like Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, Blood & Sorcery, Hellsplit: Arena, etc. I realize not everyone likes to move as much as me... But even just standing and waving your arms around is better than sitting hunched over in a chair, and since games can be so addictive and incentivizing, they're great for getting you to keep exerting yourself while forgetting that you're doing it, instead of feeling like it's something you have to force yourself to endure. So I genuinely think it might be able to help with the obesity epidemic.

I'm kinda tired of people giving false expectations to others for VR. Many other non-surface-level issues need to be addressed before we even begin with these things like FBT and total immersion. Total immersion? as fucking if. We're only now creating real standard protocols for the VR industry, what makes people think just a few years from now all these devices will be working in tandem and for less than the price of a luxury car? Sure, OpenXR has provided most standards so far, but that's a whole different discussion from what I was mentioning. I guess Khronos did join the Metaverse Standards Forum (stupid fuckin name) a month ago but that's a bit recent. Better question, how heavy would the whole setup be? Answer: fucking immensely heavy (compared to normal movement, not on a scale of how much the human muscle can withstand).
I could believe that something like camera hand tracking could be extremely refined within a couple years, but definitely not things like full-body tracking, immersive haptic feedback, and the smaller details that make VR interaction a bit uncanny (eye-tracking/facial tracking on a cheap headset. How would that happen when all the eye-tracking companies are just fucking silent. Literally 3 companies I looked into haven't said a word in over, like, 2 to 3 years).
Personally, I believe the future headsets in 2025 will try to be smaller. They'll probably try to be a little bit lighter, focus on being able to be a standalone device if needed, and focus on comfort. Of course there will always be the high price headsets that manage to squeeze in all the cool little bonus features and luxury features, but the majority of people don't need to worry about that.

This video forgot a huge part of future vr development, and that os BCI (Brain to computer interface) and vice versa, this can be used to allow us to FEEL sensations without there actually being anything in reality, or even allow us to MOVE even though we don't move in reality. It is probably important to mention that these developments won't be available by 2025, but a weaker form of them may be, so it should've been worth mentioning.

Never heard of XR before. Will that be a common thing in the last quarter of the 21st century?
