Wish your streams and vids didn't always come out mid school day for me lol.
Hello, love your videos and streams. Finally got a VR headset, moded beat saber is hella fun.
Hey ThrillSeeker! Have any tips for VR indie developer?
Love your content
I love how it takes half the video to get from the 1930s to 2010, then the next half is just to get to 2019. We are living in the middle of a rush of evolution in this fantastic technology, and I couldn't be happier to witness it.
Sometimes I want to say this but I'm never able to put it in words
This reminds me of the video game innovation and excitement of the graphical leaps in the 90's to early 2000's. Good time to be a gamer right now. I have not been this excited about games since I was a kid. I'm 30 now.
Yes and it's not confined to just gaming. Along with AR(I believe eventually ar and vr will merge as far as consumer devices), VR will revolutionize how we interact with and utilize the internet. Think of the impact the smartphone had on society, this is the impact this tech will have but bigger.. It's going to change the world, and it's really just getting started. Incredibly exciting.

This hit me with a wave of nostalgia as that single video of Sean playing the Portal repair minigame with a fully tracked headset and controllers blew my mind wide open and has embedded VR into my head to this very day.
Thank you Thrill, fantastic video.
Hi Airoah! Couldn't agree more! Also love your vids btw! :)
What got me hooked to vr was DanTDM playing job simulator. I rewatched them almost everyday.

i first heard about modern vr from jack 2 that age old vr horror game he played
I’ve wanted a vr headset ever since i saw sean playing it. I just ordered my own quest 2 :)

Still looking at Boneworks with envy. Haven't gotten the steam cash yet to get it. It's going to be a struggle even more so once Half Life: Alex comes out.

How long does it take for you to clean things up? I try to leave things on the edges of my room normally so that cleaning up for VR is easier.

Let’s hope Alex doesn’t disappoint, because that will be the crux of single-player, long-story games being seen as viable in the current state of VR.

Beachhead was one of my favorite arcade cabinets as a kid. I can't remember a chucky cheese I went into that I didn't try to find one.
Beach Head was almost always broken at any and every arcade I ever saw as a kid, and if it _was_ working it was *gross* lol. Damn smelly kids with their sticky hands...
If you want to see something bizarre, check out the beachhead website. It's a rabbit hole for sure.
The 90's were lit for being a kid. I always got nostalgia for the 90's. I wouldn't want to go back though. To much good gaming tech, 2 day Amazon shipping, etc.
Awesome history of VR video! It's really amazing how far "consumer" VR has come in the last few years. My first "taste" of VR was playing "Dactyl Nightmare" at a college student union campus and being utterly blown away (and thinking "wouldn't it be cool someday to have a setup like this of my own"). Fast forward to today and now I'm lucky enough to have my very own home VR setups (PSVR in the living room and Gaming PC and Rift in my bedroom). And if it keeps going and growing the way it has been doing, VR's future can only be brighter!
How is this video awesome? The dumbass COMPLETELY skipped over Virtuality entirely!
Just got a quest for my birthday and I've been following your channel to get caught up on everything. This was a great video! Keep it up dude

I remember watching lawnmower man as a kid and have been waiting so long for VR.

Lawnmower man was fucked tho
I remember thinking that movie was the shit when I was a kid now I just know that it actually is shit
@@chrislair6832 Lawnmower Man has a certain cheesy charm, but yeah, you might take it as a sign when its the only movie that Stephen King sued to have his name taken off.
@@cyborgsix oh wow! I didn't know he went that far I knew he had a little something to do with it but wow
@@chrislair6832 Yeah, the only similarity between the movie and the short story it was "based" off of was the title. The movie was about a mentally challenged guy with a lawnmower working as a landscaper who gets an "upgrade" via drugs and speed-learning with the help of VR. The King short story was about a guy who acted as his own lawnmower who ate the grass (and various small creatures within) as a kind of sacrifice.
One thing I do credit the movie for: Once introduced to it, I had always thought of VR as a gaming/"escapist experience" platform. The movie was the first to make me think that it could be used as a workspace.

Nice work Thrill, very informative. Here i was thinking that when I got my Rift S in May i was late to the VR party, turns out i wasn't. VR has basically changed my gaming experiences, and my life for the better.
Dope job and good video! I only wish you would have talked more on what you think the future holds for VR and any predictions you may have(CV3 2021?) . Other than that small gripe, your homework gets a solid A(96%) 🤣
It still blows my mind that I'm alive when this technology started blowing up and is at a state that you can walk into a store and buy vr for the standard price of a gaming console.
I'm looking forward to see where it goes in the next 10 years
For me it's people like Nathie, Eric for President, Matt BMF, and you that have made VR more mainstream, putting out great content on games and headsets. I bought an Oculus Quest and have been reviewing games for Rapid Reviews UK, though very part time and would love to make more content in the near future.
I remember in 1991 when I went to the MEPS center in St. Louis, we got to stay overnight at a hotel near a large mall, it was there where I first encountered VR, gigantic, heavy headsets, a belt attached via cable to a ring and hand controllers, everything tracked and it was pretty awesome, nothing by today's standards, but I will never forget it, loved VR ever since.
I really appreciate it when you do videos like this! 10/10
Please continue to make videos like this! The word that comes to my mind after this video is “beautiful.” It genuinely made me feel a bit more dire for VR that had gone down in recent months due to me getting used to it as normal in my life.
Only constructive note I have is I personally felt topical whiplash at 13:45. I rewound the video because I thought I must have missed something but it just changes gears so fast.
This is so interesting ! Just discovered your channel, and I guess, about how fast VR improved. You actually teach things. Thanks
Good video, I feel like a brief mention of mobile vr like Google Cardboard, the Samsung GearVR, or Oculus GO were warranted though.
yeah, it's pretty important

Thank you so much thrill! I was in early 2016 Oculus cv-1 adopter and have followed VR with a passion since I was probably 8 with the dk1 and 2. Those were the dark days I remember being mocked by family and friends, ect the classic boomer lines you get on vr. Now I have an index and full body and couldn't be happier with where vr is going. Greetings thrill,
Awesome video as always, I just had a tiny bit of criticism that I have to toss your way.
I think not mentioning Jaron Lanier was a missed opportunity, you actually showed a clip of him at 4:30. Jaron won the terminology war and popularized the term "virtual reality"

I remember when I frist heard about VR way back in the early 80's and I still remember how my imagine ran wild with the possibility for gaming. I now own 4 different VR headsets and I still believe that VR still has a little bit of away to go before it's perfect. But I'm definitely excited about the future of VR and I still believe that one day the potential of VR will be fully realized. I just hope I'm still alive when that happens because I'm one of the biggest fans of VR and hopefully one these days I'll see my dreams come true. Thank you for the video, I appreciate it because I believe more people should give VR a try and you are helping to spread the word so please keep up the AWESOME work and I'll keep coming back for more and sharing your video's with as many people as I possibly can. 🤟😯👍

YOU MISSED: In 2021 the 2D Game industry collapsed since everyone now plays in VR :D
Never going to happen, let alone next year, and I'm a VR user and optimistic about it. Some people just can't do it, and some types of gameplay won't be adapted to Vr for a long time. You're telling me strategy games and 3rd person perspective is going to vanish in 1 year?
LOL. Escape from microtransations
@@CHURCHISAWESUM I was just joking around. I agree with you that 2D will still be here and the front runner for gaming for many years (decades?) to go. But for the record, people in our group have found some awesome 3rd person and strategy games in VR too! Many in VR say they VR more then they 2D. Some people it's even higher than 90% VR for them....
....in fact we have a "2D that should be in VR" list of the games the community wishes would be ported to VR, even if it stayed mouse/gamepad controlled!

I’m glad I have one now. Although tracking on it can be annoying at times, the Odyssey Plus had been amazing. What an experience VR is. I suggest people who had been side eyeing VR for a while now. These videos you see of gamers reacting to playing is legit. I had the same reactions. Still do after almost a month with it. I’m glad to be a part of this.
Awesome video and (I assume) very well researched! I was introduced to having my first experiences through mobile VR, which I thought you were going to pivot to a bit there. They were the cheapest way for some people to try.

This was a really nice encapsulation of the history of VR. The only things you are missing is the Google cardboard, which actually got me into VR in 2014, Gear VR and the development of wireless VR which I have on my Vive and is a big game changer for room scale VR. Otherwise, damned good job, ThrillSeeker!

Dude having a VR is like having a premium amusement park ride whenever I want with many different experiences, and THEN SOME. VR is just a different beast. one of my best decisions for gaming next to getting a PC.
Awesome breakdown man, really cool video! :D
What a great video. Back then, I was just too financially incapable to actually care about Oculus during its early days so anything VR-related during the mid 2010s is just a blur to me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to finally look back to it all.
Love it. You nailed my reasons for getting VR, Tried my cousins CV1 and Beatsaber. Was instantly sold. Got my Rift S on Boxing Day for $480 CAD, And discovered VRC. Been spending prohibitive amounts of time in VRC and LOVING it. And loved playing Cards Against Humanity with you a couple weeks ago too!
Showed my step dad my Rift S and he got himself a Quest within the week. VR is here, as long as people try it and experience how good it is, it sells itself.
tried my friends quest 1 and Beatsaber, so I bought a quest 2 with link, now have spent 700-something hours in beatsaber and Boneworks
Thanks for putting this video together, very interesting!
Well done! Just got into vr last year when I got my ps4 pro. Been loving it ever since. I meddled with the cheap phone related 360° headsets before that, and hot damn... Needless to say, I'm deeply invested in VR in 2021 lol.
I loved it! You have the best channel dedicated to vr
I remember back in the oculus DK1 days, on the oculus forums searching for demos/experiences made by the users, A full length game seemed like a dream then. I made two experiences back then, the bridges of the Enterprise OST and the TNG, good memories but the wealth and quality of VR now is amazing. A dream come true. BTW nicely put together video
2019 really was the perfect year to jump into PCVR between powerful yet affordable computer parts for me and the Vive Pro Starter Kit going on sale for the same price as the standalone headset.
All I'm waiting for is whenever the Index Knuckles get back in stock.
I'm so excited for the future of VR! It's amazing the progress we've made.
