- I got in a batch of used but genuine rotating ring inserts from Japan. Old watchmaker's junk drawer stuff. Many interesting shades and finds, and some new questions too.
PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, usually none. We have zero script, no planning, no real editing, nothing. Same for the sound - I forget my microphone pretty regularly, so if you can hear anything count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to blow part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

The wabi-sabi on some of those bezels is amazing. It would be awesome to hear the stories they could tell! Great video!
Many times if a watch had been previously polished, the pebbling in the bezel will be smoothed out in the process!
That ghosted bezel is beautiful
Just look at the 3 on the genuine bezel - it has like a fishtail on the middle bar, and the beginning and ends of the 3 are sloped - the slope intersects the 28 minute pip
I have found that the inserts come off easier if you boil the bezel in water for 15 minutes, then cool it on an ice cube. You will find that a razor blade corner will go in. You still need to work the blade around until you are able to remove the inset with a fingernail.
That ghosted blue-hued one, that is.
One main difference between 6309 and 605 bezel inserts are the 6309´s being slanted or dish shaped, while the 6015´s are entirely flat.
Hi Spencer, if you can bring down the shine on the touched-up bezel that might be a good match. 1 is beat up but the wear Is symmetrical so that appeals to me and 2 is seemingly not as beat up but the damage is more random. Honestly though, the blue is my favorite.
oh shoot I think I saw this lot if not another like this. kinda green low res photos if i remember correct. I ended up picking up a bunch of KS cases bc i need a back bezel. this life you know
it may have been a “seiko junk” search 😂
26:55 Option 2 definitely. To my eyes, the lume pip color matches the dial lume color perfectly. Looks like they belong together.
#2 for sure.
Hi spencer , quick question. I have a nice 6309 willard but it’s missing a lume pip. Do you know if the pip from a skx007/7002 7001 / 6309 7040 would fit in the space ? By the way , I’m the dude who got his Willard soaked in Hong Kong . Your suggestion about using the fridge as a dehumidifier seems to Have worked well so many thanks for that 👍👍
6309 or 7548 will drop in. SKX is too small.
I think all 3 options are worse than what you have...the fourth ie retouched half way will be superb, keep going bud.
Option 2
Damn you are all over the place. I love your vids, but I am from the school of the speedmaster books. Line them up by year and differences. You have years of experience.. now you are analyzing while filming going back and forth. Ps my only love is the 6105 diver, the others I do not care much about, maybe that’s why I am inpatient
26:40 option 1 pour moi 😉
