    I can handle the survival, I just use clear sky shout and rush using horse in a cold area, have a lot of pet and blessing to fix the inventory problem. But the no fast travel tho, at first it's awesome seeing skyrim fully, but now I need too get back to High hroghtar a few times it's a bit tiring.

    i absolutely LOVE the survival mode, especially the effect that cold areas have on your health, in can get crazy when you are out exploring the frozen areas and your HP slowly ticks down while you are searching for somewhere to find shelter for a while
    the one thing i hate though is the fact that it disables fast travel, that was absolutely making me die inside
    especially for doing the dawnguard DLC where everything is all over the map, Castle Volkihar and Fort Dawnguard are literally on opposite corners of the map
    what i've resorted to doing is either using the loading zone glitch, or just turning survival mode off and on every time i want to fast travel, since when you do this it "saves" your hunger and food levels when you re-enable it

  • @Jimmyinvictus
    @Jimmyinvictus Před 2 lety +59

    Lot of constructive criticism here, but I'm saying it because I see potential in your channel.
    Survival Mode is huge: it impacts a number of facets of gameplay and completely changes the way you approach the game, and you've devoted a whole four minutes to it. If I were writing a hypothetical script, I'd suggest something like the following:
    1. Overview: changes to carry weight, importance of food and shelter, leveling changes, changes to shrines. A lot of these (like the shrines) take up five seconds, so a mention in an overview is fine.
    2. Managing temperature. Skyrim is noted for being snowy and frigid and for the first time you've got a game mode that reinforces this notion in-game (which is both annoying and awesome). Explaining the stat effects of cold exposure and ways to mitigate cold (clothing and armor with different warmth ratings, torches, racial bonuses and penalties, "hot" versions of foods, flame cloak spell for frigid water) would have all been extremely useful bits of information, especially for players who haven't tried Survival yet.
    2. Food! For the first time, you've got a game mode where finding food as loot (especially salt piles...precious, precious salt piles) might very well be more exciting than finding septims. Tell us your favorite recipes (vegetable soup doesn't take salt, salmon steak is extremely light); this would be a great time to tie-in with two new pieces of AE content: fishing and Goldenhills Plantation, AKA The Farm.
    3. Rest/Sleeping. No fast travel means you've got to plan your journeys in legs; where are you going to sleep tonight? Are you using the Camping creation? Did you know that not resting for too long will impact your magicka as you become fatigued? (Wizards need their rest)
    4. Weight. Carry Weight is halved, which was mentioned in the overview, but here you could discuss ways to alleviate that: companions, Pets, Horses, alchemy and enchants. One of the most annoying things to get used to is the drastically reduced carryweight, but there are plenty of ways around that.
    In short, the video was far too short for such a drastic change to gameplay. If you wanted to break it into a shorter videos, you've got a whole series of five minute videos here. Leverage the content, and give your viewers more.
    I don't mean any of this in a negative way, as I said, I think you've got potential and I offer this as sincere constructive criticism. Cheers!

    There is a huge flaw with this mode, you get cold way too quickly! Literally 5 minutes outside Winterhold and you're freezing to death it's just not realistic at all and some areas are unplayable. If there's a dragon on top of a snowy mountain, good luck fighting it with 30% health and -80% attack speed

    There are a lot of good additions in this game mode, but there is one lore problem in this mod.
    Volkihar Clan are known to be immune to cold, but when your character becomes a Vampire he still suffers from cold effects. This can be fixed by buffing up the damage that you receive from fire up to 100% like it was the case in original vanilla game.
    Even the book "Immortal Blood" states that some of Volkihar vampires swim in lakes awaiting their prey, and some vampires are immune to frost spells damage in game.

    In my honest opinion, everything in Survival Mode is perfect. I'm fine with everything... Everything BUT COLD! The cold mechanics is absolutely ridiculous, broken beyond what could be considered sane. it's 99% too fast. You take literal 2 steps outside and you are already pretty much dead because it's so cold... And you literally stepped outside. It literally doesn't matter how warm armor you use or whatever you try to do. It's beyond absurd. Everything else is perfect, but this one thing absolutely destroys the whole game for me. I had to stop playing on survival mode JUST because of how stupid the freezing part is. Everything else, pure pleasure.

  • @Stratelier
    @Stratelier Před 9 měsíci

    I started a Survival playthough myself on the Switch version, so here are some of my quick thoughts on the matter:
    -- At least the Switch version seems to be glitched in that Cold/Hunger/Fatigue does *not actually reduce* your total Health/Stamina/Magicka -- contrary to their descriptions, when checking your Skills page these attributes always keep their full value. The other effects are in play however, and if your Cold level reaches 100% of your Health meter it will still kill you outright (I remember nearly freezing to death trying to clear Ironback Hideout up near Solitude -- fortunately that place has a fire for warmth).
    + Arrows and Lockpicks now having 0.1 weight means you can't just endlessly hoard them anymore, and the lack of Health regeneration by default is HUGE.
    + Innkeepers stock a wider variety of food items, making it actually pretty easy to stock up on snacks for longer trips away from towns (per no fast travel).
    = I almost wish the initial carry weight was a nice round "100" instead of 150, but then again a full set of Heavy Armor is easily >50 weight so I can understand not setting the limit TOO low.
    = You don't receive a Rested bonus sleeping outdoors (e.g. random bedrolls in bandit camps, etc) nor does it fully refresh your Fatigue level, but you CAN do so in any indoor/dungeon area (e.g. inside Embershard Mine near Riverwood).
    -- If Khajiit and Argonians can eat raw foods without harm, shouldn't they also get a bonus to Hunger for it too? The difference between cooked and raw food is about 10:1, regardless of race.

    Coming back and on switch no less (it’s difficult to some things like bows fluidly even on console but especially switch lite) I feel like survival is something it will take either a while in game or multiple restsarts to really find what I like fit that , and that’s kind of welcome bc it encourages me to use oats of the game I basically ignored in previous play throughs

Ineed, frostfall, wet/cold, hunterborn, wildcat combat, and TEST animal mod does way better than Bethsedas weak ideas

    @retoxification Před 2 lety +6

    "This gets very frustrating when you are walking from one side of the map to the other because there is no fast travel and you're constantly having to hunt or go out of your way to find food"
    What are you talking about? Stop at one farm and you can harvest enough food to make 10 batches of vegetable soup and each only weigh 0.5. Seriously, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, and cabbages are super prevalent in skyrim, and make a kick ass vegetable soup (without needing salt), and even with reduced carry weight you can carry days worth of food. At least enough to get you across the map and into any major city (which will have plentiful food available for you). Fishing and hunting is not even necessary unless you want to engage in those activities and eat some meat.

Creation Club is wrong, but Bethesda understands the game they made.

DO NOT activate your level up(skills) until you are at low health if you are for instance in a fight and need to use a potion because after you activate your level up it refills everything(magica, stamina, and health). It's pretty much a free healing. Whenever you're traveling and find "blue mountain flower", pick them up because you can use those along with wheat to make health potions in the alchemy skill. I would highly recommend using "healing" which you'll find in the restoration section in your magic and get the perk for it where you can use both hands to double the speed at which you restore your health. It's a type of game mode that needs to be implemented at the beginning of development and each NPC would have to scripted to be part of it. There are SOME mods that help with this a little, but it only does so much. Hopefully Elder Scrolls VI expands upon this.

    It’s almost good. The food mechanic is good, if a bit shallow, but the sleeping/fatigue mechanic is absolute dogshit. As far as I can tell, there is no way to get rid of the first level of fatigue besides sleeping in an owned bed, which is absolute garbage since there are nowhere near enough opportunities to sleep in and owned bed while exploring. Also, the first level of fatigue gives a goddamn 25% penalty to stamina and magic regen. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? All you have to do is make it so that any bed that is not marked as owned by an NPC can get rid of this first level of fatigue and there you go. This is way too steep of a penalty and it needs to be reworked
