- čas přidán 12. 08. 2024
- TrainingPeaks began in 1999 with the goal of making it easier for cyclists to work with their coaches and help them understand their training. Since then, they've helped pros go on to win the Tour de France, and helped beginners become hours faster, but just how do they do it, and what are the benefits of working with TrainingPeaks? Manon is in the US at the TrainingPeaks HQ to find out!

Have you ever had a coach? Let us know your experiences down below!👇
I coach triathletes and use TrainingPeaks. I have specialised in athletes, who struggling with minor health problems or physical limitations and above 50 athletes. I have coached Ironman and half Ironman athletes as well as ordinary bike athletes. It is a really good way to communicate and follow athletes progress.
Balance Coaching with Caroline Mani. It’s not often you get to learn from a 5x Elite Women’s National Champion.
Tim Cusick has lots of amazing insights about coaching and if you are using WKO5, which is TrainingPeaks on steroids and integrates nicely with training peaks as they are or previously were the same company. Watch Tim’s videos on CZcams for lots of training goodness!

1:37 What I like most about Manon is how humble she is! 😂
Oliver Bridgewood 830w 20min haha
Only thing he's dropping now is watts!
Such a show off. 😂
my geni can do that all day, not impressive.
😂😂😂🤯
😂😂😂 I had a laugh when I saw that too
I had a coach 20 yrs ago, heart rate based training. Best thing I ever did, performance increased significantly. Now self-training w power, “canned” training programs & TrainingPeaks (TP). It’s amazing but I now have more questions than answers. Next step is to hire a coach who’s very familiar with using TP to analyze training results and use it to develop my personalized training.
Manon video means its gonna be a good day
Glad you enjoyed the video, Alexander!
Use TrainingPeaks daily and love it. Hope they will add strength training into it as well so I can track progression and schedule both on and off the bike on single calendar.
Thanks TrainingPeaks and Manon. Excellently presented as usual.
Thanks, Ethan! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
No never had a coach, love to be fortunate one day to have one of the best to train me. 🙂🙏🏾
this video couldn't have been any better timed for me! 10 weeks out from my first sprint Tri!
This helped starting to wrap my head around TP, thanks!
Glad we could help you, Bob! Hopefully you'll see more gains now!
As an avid cyclist using Training Peaks, and a professional music educator frequently using both Make Music and Alfred products, Peaksware gets lots of $$$ from me. Much more than I ever realized!!
Biggest revelation of this video: the two sister companies to TrainingPeaks that focus on music-AlfredMusic and MakeMusic. As both a cyclist and a French hornist, I’ve gotta check them out.
You learn something new everyday! 🤷♂️
2:19 Is it just me questioning the Peak Performance?? 😕
No, those certainly are actual Ollie's numbers, he's a beast.
I was looking for a training app. I wasn't sure whether to go for Training Peaks without comparing it to the now many existing competitors but this video convinced me to go with TP. I do value the connection to a coach, which is missing from the other apps. I love Manon too, she's indeed the best GCN presenter (even though I do also like Si and Ollie :-))
Wow. Very interesting. Obviously Manon was well prepared and knew exactly what to ask.
Well, I’m sure she didn’t get the questions from training peaks… Nevertheless, clearly marked as an advert and still interesting but I wish the questions would have been less obviously scripted from TP.
@@nihanab I mean, it looked like he had to seriously think about some of the questions. I'm sure it was a pick and pull of various questions from topics but also some of her own. If GCN wants to survive long-term they have to get payments to go interview some people. Despite him paying for it, I found it pretty interesting. Plus I love when a GCN presenter comes to good ol' US of A. I'd like to see something with Garmin at some point, but I realize Wahoo throws GCN money hand over fist. Might be a non-compete clause, who knows. But I would love something similar with the fitness team at Garmin.
I too love getting that flood of notifications of records in early January 🙂
Thanks Manon..very interesting stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Seems like a seriously great guy! These videos that Manon has done in the US are some of the best GCN videos for some time. Well done to that crew.
Thanks Neil!
@@manon-lloyd u are the best presenter
Manon is the best GCN presenter!
This is awesome. And according to the site, prices are fair.
Thank you for this informative video. I plan to subscribe to their premium plan to help improve my general fitness and plan workouts.
I use and like it as well but it hast it‘s problems (especially working with no coach). The key challenge is that there no extrapolated musculare fatigue. For example a very short crispy Intervall ride comboned with a mid intense strengh training can end up in being musculary bustet though TP tells you „all fine - load was okey tomorrow you kight train as usual“. As experienced athlete no problem but as beginner the wrong prediction crashes some group rides maybe.
This might be a placed commercial but it’s a great one ! Makes me want to go get a coach 😂
It's a great idea if you want to make the most out of your performance :)
Do a video on GoldenCheetah!
I doubt they will make one I don't think GC are willing to pay
So as an individual user, will this app provide coaching or just a compilation of data? Thanks for the video GCN!
So as an individual user, both! You can get a compilation of data, and then hire a coach to help you understand it, and help you get fitter using that data :)
You can buy many different training plans through TrainingPeaks, which you can add and remove to the calendar at any date. So you do not need a coach, if you are very much on top of your training yourself. And you can make your own plans and workouts to save for reuse etc. For instance base training plan, build plan and speciality plan, which you can save and use year after year when you get to that time of the year. Since the workouts are based on % of your FTP, then the plans will scale when you improve your FTP. And you can make changes to your plans. Therefore they will never become obsolete.
How does TrainingPeaks handle illness (e.g. flu) - or injury-prone cyclists? Do they have special training programs for such people? How about guidance on food and recovery?
If someone from Training Peaks is reading the comments: Can you please make a subscribable calendar but only with the races/events on the schedule or better completely configureable.
#AskGCNtech# Hi guys! Do you know, why top tube, mainly, is not horisontal any more?
Problem for me is, that with inclained top tube, there is no room for bag inside frame, otherwise can not fit 0,7L bottles for long rides, where people actualy would need space for this bag. (My frames is 50-52 cm)
As saddle position is higher than steering bar, i see that there is no problem to have top tube horisontal, exept, it add weight for frame.
As found, it add aero gain.
As for me, horisontal tube add classic beauty as well.
Please, raise this topic, I believe, you can influence frame producers.
Hello sir good night i would like you to come to Jamaica
1:46 😂😂😂 fully agree 😁
Ollie is jealous that Manon got to do this interview. 😜
That's funny and probably true. Ollie is a madman for analytics.
My Garmin reports section declared a couple of months back that I was 'peaking'. VO2 Max 77.0. A race then? Nope. Major surgery instead.
Damage control ad. We all mire in the wake of Dr. Stephen Seiler.
There is one issue with TSS calculation in training peaks. This is a intensity metric and not a stress metric. For example, it doesn't have the same stress on the body to do a 10 min threshold interval at the beginning of a session than after 150km on a race. Training peaks calculate the same TSS for those 2 very different efforts and this is not correct. I think it is a great tool but be careful how you use it and always follow your feelings first.
But it measures the part that came before? There isint suddenly a higher physiological cost by doing efforts at the end of a session
@@rotation-y2n of course there is a physiological cost because you are already under very high fatigue. For instance running a marathon on an Ironman has much higher training stress than running a stand alone marathon (at the same pace) but trainingpeaks will calculate the same TSS
@@joselozano7475 well if you are under fatigue you slow down... So it's the same or lower
@@joselozano7475 you seriously think you can do the same powers fatigued as fresh?!
@@rotation-y2n it is not about how much you can do but the one you actually do. That same intensity has higher stress to the body under high fatigue conditions but Trainingpeaks will assign the same TSS. That is why I say is an intensity score and not stress score.
Don't have apower meter so can you help?
Hi Andree, yes, if you have a heart rate monitor instead, they can still help you :)
Those are some impressive numbers for Mr Bridgeworth @2:18! 830w!! 20min power = 788w FTP!? Lol. Might need to calibrate that power meter!
Are those numbers for real ?
@@beyond8981 No, looks like he is having some trouble with his power meter
I like and use TrainingPeaks, I've bought multiple training plans, and I generally liked this video. But all the data that can be seen throughout this video is ridiculous.
Let's have a look at 09:50. Top right plot - the critical power curve. Someone did 900 Watts for 20 minutes. Well, somebody probably just strapped a power meter to a horse. Whoever came up with that idea is a stable genius I guess.
Also, again, same timestamp. Let's have a look at the TSS: 9h ride, 1365 TSS. That means that the whole 9h were ridden at 125% FTP. That's impressive even for a WorldTour horse.
I guess you haven't met the god of cycling, Oliver Bridgewood yet?
Don't get worked up about it. I think is better to have an outrageous example just to make a point, something impossible, just for the sake of the explanation, than showing actual data.
Also, I cackled with the horse comment, it was genius.
Ollie Bridgewood is a unit, he'll have you believe...
@@gcn I actually missed the name of the rider :D Well played, and kudos to Stallion Bridgewood for his power numbers
Husky dog with 240 VO2max smiles mildly.
Tell them to ban VO2 max sessions 😂😂
Olli's trying to destroy his bick.
Cheapo Golden Cheetah anyone?
20min best 830w i want to know who this was
Also hi Ollie
That's not what TP stands for...
his "then" parents? so he got new parents
He's a former cycling pro. Not an English language pro. 😂
probably means his parents are dead

riding with tech and numbers made my rides so much worse, it hinders performance, progress, and takes away all the fun. just go out and ride with faster ppl thats the best way to train.
Trash advice. If you're not having fun, then don't do it but it's the best way to improve
@@veganpotterthevegan only pros should worry about exact numbers. Everyone else is just a bum trying to massage their ego. Speed, technique, athleticism, race IQ, and Results matter not a number some nerd gets sitting upright inside.
@timtaylor9590 you're ridiculous. Everyone can want to be their best and having wattage is the best way to do that
@@veganpotterthevegan yeap it's just more bs to keep the money flowing until the lactate shit takes over. Just like keytones more bs. Guys who are winning would still win without power meters. Now there's a whole new category of riders the nerds who race inside analyzing numbers sitting upright and can't ride for shit, and they dump thousands of dollars. And for what? It's laughable.
@@veganpotterthevegan you want to be faster use those blood doping worms that aren't detectable or harmful. And they're not thousands of dollars and give real gains.
Just ride slow 2 times a week zone 2, and you can ride like a zwift idiot for the rest. There training done. And lay off donuts
