Huge tip TELL YOUR GROUP YOU ARE NEW. If its your first time running something immediately let chat know its your first time. That really helps older players know to slow it down, let you watch cutscenes, and usually treat you a bit better if things go south. The community is usually very welcoming to everyone, even more so if they know you are just getting started.
I'm so tempted to get back into this on PS5 / PC. Have to play a few more games in the queue first but damn, this game always grips me back.

This is true, I remember when I first played this game when a realm reborn launched (haven't played since) and people were so helpful because they 1) saw I was new because of my gear and 2) when I said I was overwhelmed, new, and didn't know where to start

Big suggestion save the yellow side quests for leveling other jobs when your bored doing dailies and dungeon runs
The.biggest thing.for.controller.users.
Turn on Expanded Controls for hotbar 2. You can assign 32 skills instead of only 16 and not have to worry about switching hotbars.
The game has been refined to fit a 32 skill hotbar.

Great tips 🙂 I've been playing this game on and off on console since it launched and I love it. Stick with it, if you're new there seems like loads to get your head around when you first start, but once you get the hang of the hotbars and hotbar swapping it becomes muscle memory and the game gets much easier. Also join a free company - the players in this game really are very helpful and friendly.
I'm sure someone's already pointed it out, but on tip #12 - the Limit Break is not a solo thing, it's shared between the entire party (this is why it'll only be usable if you're in one)! As such, in most cases only the DPS should use it, as it does a decent chunk of damage. Melee DPS does a powerful single target attack, ranged physical DPS does a line attack, and the caster DPS does a circle aoe. There are very few moments where tanks use it (there are some late game fights that do require the tank LB to survive incoming damage), and the healer one is only for absolute emergencies. In a normal dungeon run, ONLY a DPS use the LB.
Nice to see this video tho, the tips are quite good ones. Especially the one about the Novice Hall! Such an important thing to do. I've got nearly 10k hours of gameplay after 5 years of playing it, and I really couldn't recommend it more. It's a wonderful game, with a pretty good community!

Addendum to #12: If you're a tank or healer, don't use the limit break unless it's absolutely necessary in the current situation. The majority of the time you want the dps to use the Limit Break to deal the big damage.

If you're a tank, just dont use it for the love of god. Healers only get to use it in raids if the bar is 3 and everyone is dead.
@@emonTwenty There are handful of raids, trials and ultimates fight that required tank LB3 such as Alexander (A12, normal and savage), The Seat of Sacrifice (normal & extreme), UCoB and UWU. Some situation like I’ve encounter in recent extreme trial is Diamond Weapon Extreme when something gone bad like 2 or more people missing the towers, I usually use tank LB3 in that situation. But yeah, this is for new player guide, but I need mention it there are situation that tank LB3 is required and essential, especially free trial is up to Heavensward that means player will encounter Alexander in the end.
biggest tip to share:
there are extra cross hotbar features you can enable, such as double tapping L2 or R2 to make one of your other hotbars appear, as well as an option to set holding both L2 and R2 (or the reverse) for even more buttons. This really comes in handy for max level when you have access to a jobs full toolkit
This teeters on a non-beginner tip, but it is so helpful when playing on a controller. Good call.

Expanded hold controls will let you set up which bar you'll access when you hold two triggers. WXHB settings will let you set up which bar you access when double tapping a trigger.

Some additional points from a veteran (been playing since 1.0):
Invest in a USB keyboard. It can be a cheap £10 one, any should work. Communication is key in this game.
Remember your ABCs:
Always be casting. While in combat, your GCD should always be on cooldown.
An addendum to the limit break tip:
The limit break gauge is party wide, not personal. If you use the limit break, your party members will not be able to. While there are exceptions to the following, they are mostly reserved for DPS use; melee take the priority if there is only one mob, ranged/caster if there are multiple. If the party is struggling, you may want to hold it for healers. Tank limit break is very rarely used, although various duties require the use of tank limit break, specifically Coil Turn 13, Alexander 12 Normal & Savage, Omega 11 Savage, Seat of Sacrifice and Coil/Ultima Ultimate.
Also an addendum to your point on the resting bonus: The resting bonus accumulates twice as fast if your rest in an inn room.
This was a great video for players coming back after awhile as much as it is good for new players!
Little correction on Tip 1, it kind of does matter if your friends are on another server. Depending on if they are on a different data centre entirely you won't be able to play with them. They are releasing cross data centre visits but this isn't available yet.
That and also you are shut off from a lot of the social features when visiting another server. You can't join your friend's FC or even attend their wedding if you don't have the same home world. World travel is really more for PVE/PVP content as well as shopping on other market boards.

@@EvtheNev The MSQ will give you enough gil for the essential stuff you need. But if you want to really want to farm gil for end-game stuff such as houses or really expensive raid gear, etc. there are various ways to make gil. Most of them will become accessible when you advance the MSQ, so getting through that first should be your number one priority one way or another. For example, treasure maps are a great way to make money. They become available from a blue plus-quest at level 36 in Eastern La Noscea. Do them with your FC in groups and from time to time dungeons will pop up which give expensive rewards and lotsof gil. But again: If you have access to lvl 80 treasure maps, you get the best rewards. Other than that, leveling up gatherer and crafter classes is a good way to make gil. While crafters (carpenter, leather-worker, weaver, alchemist, blacksmith, goldsmith, armorer) will cost you an Investment first before they actually make you gil, gatherers (botanist, miner, fisher) cost you almost nothing (except for their equipment) and make you money from the get-go. Gatherers are also what you get treasure-maps from. But like before, getting through the MSQ and getting access to the later areas from the expansions will again give you the more expensive materials and stuff.
To #7 it is not only logging off in a sanctuary, just beeing in one slowly builds it up.

Tip 13: To play as a Rogue/Ninja, you can start as any job/class and get a Quest for Rogue at Limsa Lominsa (level 10, if I remember correctly).

Some DPS classes (Monk / Dragoon) rely on attacking the boss from behind/side
Nahhhh, tank's job is to mob the entire map till the next boss check point. Go big or go home ;)

Rob, the stream you and Rosie did has changed my life right now. I used to be a bit bored with the games I had been playing and I was, unfortunately, losing a the joy of playing them, but seeing the kind of fun y’all had that day made me want to try FFXIV, even though I’ve never played an MMO before. It has been the most fun I’ve had since horizon zero Dawn. Thank you for doing the stream and for putting another video about this game that I’ve ultimately fallen in love with. Lastly, I just want y’all to know that your content brings smiles and laughter to my life where sometimes it’s not easy getting it internally. So, thanks for all you and the team do.

I’ve been playing since launch back on the ps4 and had no idea about half of these features lol.
Really helpful. Longtime fan of RPG'S and Final Fantasy but I've never played an MMO before. So these tips are a good starting point for me.
Its the best Final Fantasy in years. If you're curious, do a lot of homeowrk first on basics and stuff (like YT videos) to ease yourself in and don't worry about feeling overwhelmed, it will all click and gets spoon-fed to you in the game.
Also, as I keep having to tell people, don't worry about the subscription thing, you can buy 60 day time cards and don't even need to be tied to monthly payments (which seems to be a huge turn off to people and nobody ever mentions the time cards!).

@@Prestige_00 Yes, the time cards apply to whatever game version(s) you have registered on your Mogstation account.
(Mogstation is where you manage all the account stuff like time cards, bonus item codes, server transfers etc.)

I tried started edition on my ps5 but compared to wow the game just too slow and has no pvp
@@Heavnelydemon There is PVP and is feels slow at first until you get more abilities. The GCD is slower because you're meant to use multiple abilities in between. its 'faster' at higher levels.
@@Heavnelydemon at low levels sure, but once your toolkit fills out at higher levels and you get access to more recent content you really can't compare the two.
@@Heavnelydemon yeah come endgame the combat is actually way more in depth with your rotations than WoW is. It does not have WoW’s PvP though - FFXIV is very much a PvE game with PvP tacked on.

For people who never tried this game, give it a shot! Even i try it and i never thought i like this game so much. One of the best MMO games out there.
For the cross world chat and visit, you have to at least be on the same data centre. 😉
On controller you'll want to set up double tap and dual hold controls for your hotbars, so you can execute commands on other hotbars without cycling through them. You're going to have more abilities and spells than you can fit on one hotbar.
I'd go so far as to say that it's essential.
I never really played an MMO game before. And seeing how this is free and it is a familiar setting (the FF universe), it looks like a great time to jump in.
Most importantly for me is I can play this with a controller. A keyboard confuses me and always felt daunting when trying to play MMOs on PC.

Of all things, you didn't mention that limit breaks were shared with the group so only use tank ones when the content demands and healer when it's lvl 3 and many people are dead. Melee is the preferred in 90% of scenarios.
It just works - Todd Howard
1) If you are white mage, don't need to heal. Just spam holy.
2) If you want to be a real tank, be a dragoon. You will be tanking in no time.
3) If play as scholar, you don't need to heal too. Just let your fairy do the healing and u dps.
4) If you see another scholar use succor (aka - barrier), just use another barrier for double effect..
5) As a tank, it is your job to pull all possible mob till next boss checkpoint. Leaving your allies in the dust behind is key.

This video got me to jump in. Already Lv10 Lancer. Newb question: I keep seeing the terms "job" and "class," are they different things or are the terms used interchangeably?
I believe jobs are upgraded versions of classes. Their roles are more specific
just returend on ps5 since a year or 2 , didnt know it was for ps5 , my pc was too low in the end with all the special effects going on at the same time haha so this is the perfect opportunity for me to rlly get ot the ned game and enjoy what i i once liked so much for real this time :D

Tip 1 : turn off adaptive triggers if you want to craft and haptic feedback if you walk alot. Trust me.
How does the game play on the system? Is it 'worth a buy' if I've already got it on PC?
@@kylerobinson6102 it plays smoothly tbh like if you are playing it on a good pc , however i noticed that fps drops very very badly(like below 25 bad) in limsa and uldah in the busy areas(didn't see this anywhere else).

@@octaviusa7035 I think I am going to stick to getting this on PC when I 'get back into it' this year. I really love FFXIV a lot, it 's so much fun. PS5 games coming up for me will be Returnal, Ratchet and Clank, FF7 Intergrade, and more Demon Soul's.
I’m gonna watch the video despite having over 300 hours (maybe 400 now) on PS4 and 180 on Steam. I’ve still never got past Stormblood though because I used to make a new character every time I started. I don’t now.
If you join a free company as well don't forget to pay attention to the chat box as most fcs will welcome players when joining.
A lot of new players always forget the Chatbox is there.
The only thing making me frighthened is hotbar. I am coming from ESO where skills are very simple - limited - to use. But using triggers for all 16 sounds overkill! 😵💫
As far as the server choice is concerned, you can only visit other servers on the same data center. So if your friends are on different servers on different data centers, you cannot visit them. Though there is talk of cross data center visits in the future

Tip for people coming from a traditional pc mmo
You can use a mouse and keyboard on console.
Keyboards should be standard though.
But being able to play ona. Console like it was a pc game can help some people

Never played but currently the “bells and whistles” edition (forgot what it’s called - the one with everything and some exclusive in game mounts etc) is on sale on PSN for 29.99 thinking of picking it up for my PS5. Is it worth it this late after release? I had about 4 years WoW experience back during release all the way through to burning crusade so I’m not completely new to MMO’s

I just got it there few days ago, atm I'm really enjoying it , had some experience mmos like eso and bit of wow and it plays well on ps5 but also as a ff game too! For a console version it's a pretty decent mmo 🤙

Complete edition is on sale right now on the ps store. Gives you all the content and a 30 day online trial. After that it's 12.99 or 14.99 a month, depending on if you want multiple characters.

Rule #13 - Remember this is the most friendly Online multi-player game. So be nice and peeps will be nice to you. This should be our own world moto, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Been playing this for 3 weeks (on PC) and haven't found a single thing to dislike about it. Wish I'd played sooner. The game is cross play with us PC guys/gals so if anyone wants to be friends, my character's name is Clio Meowski (WHM) and I'm on the Twintania Data Centre. Happy adventuring, everyone.
10:45 as a tank don't use Limit Break. There are a handful of bosses the tank Limit Break is needed out of thousands of bosses in this game. So refrain from using it as a tank. Limit Break is mainly for dps to use or in 8 player content for Healer Limit Break 3 to aoe rez rest of dead players to save a fight.
Also as a tank don't move the boss around as shown there, unless to dodge aoes or for a mechanic. Spinning the boss around can risk hitting other player with frontal aoe attack might kill them too. Another reason is cuz melee dps have damage bonuses hitting enemies from the side or the back and rotating enemies like that weakens their damage output plus annoys them lol.

#13 Tip - Get a keyboard
This being an MMO you will eventually be spoken to by other players in chat windows etc and using the digital playstation keyboard is very slow. You can find a cheap wireless keyboards off amazon, I'd recommend Arteck wireless solar panel keyboard very affordable $20 usd.

Only after you beat the first expansion. You get 100+ hours completely free.
It is a subscription MMO, so after you’ve reached level 60(which is hundreds of hours of content since it includes the base game and first expansion), you need to pay $15 a month.

Best MMO on the market. Also a tip for new players; buy a USB keyboard or wireless. It helps immensely with this game to chat with other players. I would call it a necessity.
Also turn on the option that allows R2 and L2 to swap to a secondary hotbar - this will allow you to memorize your skill rotation on two hotbars allowing you to use all your skills effectively with a controller, and not have to swap your hotbar mid battle.

The free trial lets you play the entire base game + the first expansion!
Play the free trial. It's hundreds of hours of content for free. If you play for that long, then frankly you're bound to buy the new expansion and pay for a sub anyway.
You don't need to pay every month, you can buy 'time cards' that give you 60 days as and when you want to play. You don't need to set-up automatic payment things at all. And as Rob said, the free trial gives you everything including the first expansion. You just can't more social things, but you basically get the whole game up to MSQ60.

What the tips for actually being able to log on? 😂. It always comes up with the wrong ID from what my account says it is and no idea how to change. Tried for days 😅
I had the same issue, you need to email Square support and let them know to unlink the account from your PSN. Took me a couple days to get it fixed.
