Can clear aligners be used to correct a deep bite?

  • Depending on the severity of the case, deep bite correction can be accomplished with aligners, particularly by leveling the curve of Spee and intruding the lower anterior teeth. The important thing is not to intrude the posterior teeth, as that would worsen the deep bite, but to intrude the lower anterior teeth, leveling the occlusal plane and improving the deep bite. This can be accomplished in mild to moderate cases with aligners.
    For more severe cases, I would probably use braces to distalize the upper posterior teeth and to extrude the posterior teeth and to open the bite a bit, as well as intrude the lower anterior teeth to level the curve of spee. However, in mild to moderate cases, this can be effectively accomplished with aligners. :)
