My wife and I transplanted our okra from small pots. They are good plants. I usually grow tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. This is my first year growing okra.
Hold it firm with ur fingers and press the tip with ur thumb,if it's breaks easily, that means it's good to be eaten
That you said you transplanted them helped me understand why they were so small. Okra will usually turn out 12-20 okra per plant, 2-3 at one time -- so you need at least 10-15 of them if you're planning to make gumbo or meals from them. I eat them raw in salads. Okra planted from seed is very hardy and can handle irregular watering and hot weather(90F)+ very well.
This is an excellent video and I really appreciate your advice. I love how fluid and informative the video is. I’m trying to grow things for the first time and I am new to gardening but I absolutely love it, I’m finding it very therapeutic. Keep up with your videos they’re great.
The leaves are also eatable. You can harvest them from the bottom up as the plant gets taller.
Really?. How do you prepare them?
I grew a garden. ... And just picked some okra . I fried it up and it was yummy 😋 I wish I would of got into gardening sooner totally fun to watch things growing 💗💗
Completely agree!
I used the little peat pots , so just planted the pots and the plants are awesome.
Very awesome video!! I transplanted all 8 of my okra plants and they did amazing so maybe I got lucky or I just have a green thumb😂
Yeah I transplanted mine with no problem and they grew nicely!!
Thanks, man. Great vid. nicely conveyed info!
Thanks for this video
Nice Video very informative. I have a question can we identify that the Okara is ready to harvest through its color? Thanks in advance.
Thank you ive wondering when to harvest these
Great content
Very nice video Thank You
If you haven't tried it, try pickled okra! YUM!!
Bru..so helpful! Ty
My okra does great, except deer love eating the leaves off them which slows down the plants' production.
Pro tip: If you don't want your boiled okra to be slimy, put a teaspoon to a tablespoon of your culinary vinegar of choice (white, apple cider, balsamic, etc) in the boiler, & it will cancel the slime.
Young raw okra with guacamole dip is great.
I can't say that I will ever try that, but totally appreciate the alternative ideas! :-) Thanks for watching!
Thank U Kindly
Okra for the win!!
My first year growing them. Lokking forward to eating them. So far, easy to grow. Used (dusted) Diatomaceous Earth for the Japanese Beetles before they ate leaves. Working great.
hi. thanks for sharing this vid. what kind of soil do you use for your garden beds? thanks again.
The organic miracle grow bags.
thanks & stay awesome!
What can you do with your okra once they are too big? It was my first time growing them.
Me too! They shot up overnight
Soup ! Add a few to chicken and noodles!
I fried mine and it tasted fine
Ours are 9 inches after one week from start and still not ready to be picked... This whole don't eat em nonsense is just that. Soak em, fry em, boil em, smoke em, slice em and dice em doesn't matter!
The new hybrid okra grows longer, better yield, & taste delicious.
What variety??
My plants are huge! The stalks are about 4 1/2" in diameter and are about 4 ft tall with some of the pods at 7" long.
@@KatiTheButcher golly are you in Texas?
Can we harvest okra when it is hard because my okra does not become soft and at last they turn yellow
Mine was pretty hard too when I harvested them. I must’ve missed when it was softer but it still tastes good. Maybe I have a different kind of okra than him 🤷♀️
Is there a plastic under your raised bed or does it go down to your soil under it
It just goes down to the ground.
Thank you sir
Also for salsas ans soups
Raw okra is good!
Can we pick a 3" okra and dry it for seed?
I don't know about picking and THEN drying. I've only let them get dry and woody on the stem, then picked them.
It's good raw just slice in half with a little salt
What if i plant a turd of mine that has okra seeds it? Will some magic happen?
Don’t know…might be worth a try. I just don’t want to watch the video if you do…
@@ExpertOfThings lol. I would never
Have you tried red okra if any different?
No, never heard of it!
Raw okra is great in salads
Um…I can’t knock something that I haven’t tried, but….to each their own???🤪 I think I just wouldn’t be able to get past the slimey-ness of raw okra in…anything! Lol
I like raw okra
Well...to each their own! Lol
Boiled okra samitches
Did you toast bread
Mine had sugar cane texture
Yeah, we had a few of those as well. Wondering if it has to do with watering levels....
@@ExpertOfThings I'm suspecting late harvest as you put it. But il be vigilant this time around.
