Why you still have your wind fairing on ? Wouldn't that just create more drag ? I thought air would flow properly without the fairing

Is it hard on the paint?

No doesn't seem like it. Just make sure both surfaces are clean. I've got probably 20k miles with the rack on and no big damage. Maybe some light scuff marks that could easily be buffed out. So people put PPF down in that spot first to so that's an option.
