Chicago was one of the first and probably the best jazz rock fusion groups of that era.

Terry Kath was not just an excellent rhythm player, but an amazing lead player who Hendrix was quoted as saying “is better than me.” Check out the live version of 25 or 6 to 4 from this same Tanglewood concert and you’ll see Terry absolutely shredding.

One of my favorite Chicago songs. Beginnings is such a great song

Terry Kath Did not commit suicide. Peter Cetera did not take his place. Peter Cetera was one of the original seven Chicago members. Terry Kath was both rhythm and lead guitar player and sang lead vocals on many songs. All accounts say that it was an accident, that he was fooling around with a gun in front of a friend. Peter Cetera was a lead singer from the beginning as well. He sang one of Chicago’s most famous songs, 25 or 6 to 4 on Chicago II And sang lead vocals on many songs even while Terry Kath was still part of the band. Terry Kath, Peter Cetera and Robert Lamm were all lead singers on various songs for Chicago through the first 11 albums. After Kath’s death, Lamb and Cetera were the lead singers with Donnie Dacus, Kath’s replacement, doing some lead singing on the next couple of albums. In the 80s, David Foster became their producer and he, along with Peter Cetera, took the reins of songwriting and producing, and Cetera sang most of the lead vocals. Different people stepped in after Cetera’s departure (Jason Scheff on bass guitar and high tenor vocals). There is a lot more to the story, but just wanted to clear up a few inaccuracies.

Nobody puts a gun to there mouth and accidentally pulls the trigger thinking it was unloaded always thought it was suicide

      @actorJSB Před 4 lety +1

@@allensaunders449 'don't worry, it's not loaded' would be a very odd thing to say before committing suicide (as would doing it in front of people)...

Tanglewood is in Massachusetts I think. Always love your discussions. Have already requested 25 or 6 to 4.

Terry Kath was the Lead Guitarist. Peter catera was the bass guitarist. Both sang and wrote songs. Terry died from an accidental, self inflicted gun shot. He insisted his 9mm was empty, put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. He had one in the chamber. Drug use was to blame Jimmy Hendrix loved him. Donnie Dacus was hired to replaced him. He was in the original HAIR production. check out 25 or 6 to 4 (sick Terry Solo), I'm a man from same concert. Hell the whole concert was great. Peace

Chicago with Terry Kath far outshines the post-Kath ballad years where their new manager pushed them away from horns and put Peter Cetera on a pedestal.
Give a listen to their debut studio album under their old name Chicago Transit Authority, which has monster songs Beginnings, Introduction, Poem 58, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, and their cover of Spencer Davis' "I'm A Man" that far surpasses the original. Definitely check out Poem 58 for more mind boggling Terry Kath guitar work.

Revisionist history. Cetara was in the group with Kath. Even sang some lead.
Kath’s death was accidental, not a suicide.

Fabulous song. Wish you would react to 25 or 6 to 4 live at Tanglewood (this show, I think). Terry Kath provides a guitar solo for the ages, as only he could do.

I like sappy 80s Chicago too, but, yeah, it was not the same band after Terry died. Still, that 80s comeback was one of the biggest (and most sustained) comebacks in music history, so you can't really blame them, but its definitely tarnished their legacy.

. Try 25 to 6 to 4 live Tanglewood same concert as this.

Great song. There were so many elements to their sound that I prefer studio versions of all their stuff to really appreciate it but this was great fun.
"25 or 6 to 4"..a favorite! Howz about it, guys?💙

i'm 67, and in high school we formed a band with the same make-up as CTA- it was back when only the music(not the money mattered).. but they came to my town 2 years ago and I was about 3 rows back, fully expecting the "Chicago" version, with all of the ballads that made them money. they walked out, and bam! the first 2 chords of "introduction"- they knew what their audience wanted; and at the end, Robert made eye contact with me and smiled as if to say now's when we make you cry, and started into "Beginnings" and they sure did

Your insert frame, upper left, blocks the faces of the performers. Suggest to move it to the lower right where there is little of interest.

Not best first song to listen to first time. "25 or6 to 4" might have been better for first time listen with Terry's incredible guitar solo.
