Terry Kath. Guitar GOAT. Absolutely on fire 🔥. Gone way too soon. RIP
Next to Stevie’s Ray Vaughn, right? Both played intuitively fanatic talents! RIP both!
Hi Ladies. He actually said "Terry Kath" not "take care" ... very common mistake ... he's the guitarist who killed it the whole song
Who killed himself later...
ahhh ... a comment like that just fills one with pride. bravo. so smart.@@marlenepettiford3731
by accident !
@@ridgemanron Don't play Russian Roulette!
Some will say this is the greatest piece of guitar work ever. This video never gets old
NEVER
Hey Ladies, I Have a Copy Of the double L.P. that this song came from. I purchased IT IN 1970 when it came out, I was 19 years Young. I can NOT believe I still have this record from 1970. You are making me feel 19 Again. Happy Days to You All, Thanks again, Old FC-2.😄
You know you're a great guitarist when the rest of the band is getting into watching you jam. Terry Kath was amazing. R.I.P.
Couldn't agree more!
Grandma knows her stuff.
Jimi Hendrix was asked once what it feels like to be the best guitarist in the world. Jimi replied, "Go ask Terry Kath."
True Story
@@quint6363I’ve heard this “true story” asked of half a dozens guitarists with a dozen responses…
@@rdspam LOL yeah, the version I heard was with Eric Clapton and he said, "Go ask Prince."...apparently...maybe it's just a rumor, or maybe it's an easy way to deflect and give props to other artists rather than looking self-indulgent describing how great it is to be the best...or having a sob story about how it's not all that it's cracked up to be...
And when Eddie Van Halen was asked this question, he said "Go ask Alex Lifeson."
Kath was a virtuoso in every sense of the word. So heartwarming to see Lulu understanding and appreciating this performance.
I am stunned at how much this song is reviewed here. I am lucky to say I was sitting 50 feet from the stage during this performance; I was 15 and had to talk my older sister into driving me to Tanglewood. I recall the delay in starting the song due to Danny Serafin fixing an issue with his drums. Terry Kath, who was the de facto band leader, lost his patience and started playing the intro. The other acts that night were The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and John Sebastian (Loving Spoonful fame). At about 10, Terry Kath announced the last song (due to noise) and as they played, my sister and I scurried to her lime-green1969 Ford Pinto to beat the crowd out. What a night!
Omg awesome
That's awesome that you had that experience. Thanks for sharing.
But you missed an epic performance of "I'm a Man!"
I had to laugh when lulu displayed the cassette like it was found in some ancient temple. Oh, to be young again.
Lol
Donna just has a permanent smile on her face. I love it.
The band will never admit it but the song is about a guy taking an acid trip. Heh. Saw them live in 1988 at the St. Paul ,Minnesota Riverfest at the Mississippi river, outdoors, along with Arlo Guthrie, John Prine, and Pete Seeger. Peace.
wondering how much i should take
The amazing Terry Kath on guitar, so talented that Jimi Hendrix once said he thought Kath played guitar better than he did!
Wildly underrated guitarist.
The great Terry Kath on guitar
I love that there fixing things on stage and the band just starts playing and coming together
I love it when improv moments come together & work. The other members of the band are totally aware but with a wink & smile start playing. Awesome
Great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Feelin' Stronger Everyday", "Questions 67 & 68", "I'm A Man", "If You Leave Me Now", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "Saturday In The Park", "Colour My World", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Old Days" etc.
That is how it was done. Can anyone blame us for not having an interest in what is called "music" today? There is so much great music from the past for many generations, especially younger ones, to explore. It's over today.
I was blessed to see Chicago back before this performance in May of ‘70 in Langhorne PA at Neshaminy High School in the GYM! No stage. I was right in front of Terry Kath. I was so blown away I went and formed my own 8pc horn jazz rock band. BTW, He says “Terry Kath” not take care at the end.
Chicago is my 2nd most favorite band of all time. I've been a fan since they were called The Chicago Transit Authority. I've seen them perform over the years probably a dozen times. Guitarist Terry Kath's sudden demise was a terrible shock! Thanks for bringing back great memories of this band from the early days. And a Walkman? Wow!
We have our guitar legends in the UK but Terry Kath is just something else, absolute and total respect.
😂Lulu surprised me with her cassette!💙👍
Ladies, please check :"Look at little sister" played live by Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughn!
It's sad that they are not more between us.....

You would think she would not know who Chicago is, much less a cassette tape. Jesus!
Original 7 members from 1969-1978 (Kath's death) is some of the best rock fusion ever created. That insipid 80s ballad band almost kept them out of the hall of fame. Lamm's Saturday in the Park and Kath's Make Me Smile show just how vocally gifted this band was.
Love your reaction to this live version of the song. Kath on 🔥 shredding the guitar. Horns sound amazing and a very Young Peter Cetera singing/bass.
Thanks
Real musicians! Loved Terry Kath and the originals!!!
Chicago Questions 67 & 68 ... Is from the 1st album and made me notice the great vocals of Peter and the brass.
Terry Kath does a shred scales run in the intro to that song that is almost a religious experience to hear!
He didn't say TAKE CARE. He said Terry Kath. Referring to the guitarist, the late, GREAT Terry Kath.
"Introduction" is a great way to go. Anything from their first or second record is terrific. Especially "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon"
Happy New Year! Love you guys.
Happy New Year
This was written by Robert Lamm, who explained on The Chris Isaak Hour: I wanted to try to describe the process of writing the song that I was writing. So, 'waiting for the break of day, searching for something to say, flashing lights against the sky' - there was a neon sign across the city. That song came from the fact that it was 25 or 6 to 4 a.m. in the morning when I looked at my watch - I was looking for a line to finish the chorus.
LuLu is rocking this one out. Love the cassette. That's tooooooo cool 😎
The fact that you even HAVE a cassette tape is reason enough to subscribe to this channel
Thanks for subbing
That was a great concert, BTW. "Make Me Smile" from that same concert is so good, and it really highlights the vocals of the guitarist (who died, and the band went to a somewhat different sound afterward).
DAMN I'M GETTING OLD. PETER CETERA ON LEAD IS ALMOST 80. WOW
THOSE WERE GREAT TIMES AND GREAT MUSIC. SO LUCKY TO HAVE LIVED THROUGH IT.
He said Terry Kath the name of the Guitarist RIP. He was Jimi Hendrix’s favourite Guitarist!
Wow, that's awesome.
He didn't say "take care" what he said was the guitarist's name "Terry Kath."
Way to go mom, i appreciate your, I'm 80 and did lots concerts sound set ups met so many groups of outdoors, Auditorium and smalls clubs
When terry died it changed the bands direction, and they became about love songs and ballads......they had raw edge early on.......
Nxt song Beginimgs and a song from my fav. Band CCR.. long as I can see the light........
Listen to the studio version. It’s tighter and so much better.
I saw them live in December of 1970 at the university of Toledo field house. I was home on leave from the coast guard At the time. Joe Walsh was the opening act.✌
Awesome
Chicago & Walsh?!!! Must have been GREAT !!!
At the end, Peter Cetera doesn’t say “Take Care”. Listen again. He says “Terry Kath”
Will never be another like Terry Kath
Donna's voice is butter
C'mon Grammy, throw down some air guitar and show Lulu what vintage rockers are all about! Lol!! Great reaction Ladies! 🤘❤️🎸
Thanks
His speed is astounding. He's doing stuff that sounds as fast as tapping or sweep picking, but he's using more conventional technique and still sounds that fast...Incredible...He doesn't sound like anybody else...
This is such a great performance. I saw them live with The Beach Boys in 1990. Sadly Terry Kath (the guitarist all in blue did the guitar solo) died when I was a little girl so I never got to see Terry.
It has been said that Terry Kath was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist.
After all these years Terry's solo sounds as fresh and stunning as the day this was recorded
Terry Kath is a very underrated guitarist. Chicago went on tour with Jimi Hendrix and Hendrix said that Terry is a much better guitarist than him.
Wow
One of the best guitar solo's ever. Jimmy Hendrix said top 5 solo's ever about Chicago. 1970
My high school's small pep band played this song in the gymnasium stands before rival basketball games. Needless to say, we the student body, would get pumped up pretty good. This was northern California, early 70's.
There's a Russian tribute band, called Leonid & Friends, who do unbelievable
great covers of Chicago and other great bands that played back in the day.
You need to hear them, for all the musicians and singers are of Juilliard level
quality.
With Chicago you get a thoroughly Jazzy Rock Band. And it's so good.
Jimmi Hendrix said in a interview that Terry Kath is one of his favorite guitarist
What he said as the end of the video is "Terry Kath" and not "take care". It was to let everyone know who the guitar solo player is/was. Terry passed away in 1978.
The whole song is written lyric by lyric about writing songs, he looked at the clock and couldn't tell the time or what he had gotten done. Musically without a doubt timeless, but it's like being in the mind of a musician while working....it does not get more real than that......
LEGENDARY performance...hope this gets into the Library of Congress
Amazing guitarist. He's a monster on this live cut. It's really cool to them building it up at the start.
So glad you did the Tanglewood version . Terry was on FIRE 🔥 in that concert. Hear Terry on lead vocals and a lot more Brass in.... Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon... Tanglewood 1970 and be sure it is 14 minutes because it has been cut up. Chicago never recorded songs called Make Me Smile or Colour My World . They are both cut outs from Ballet. The band was surprised that the record company did that. Back in the day AM radio was standard in cars and AM radio had a 3 minute time limit. We were confused because FM radio had a little longer version so we got the album and there was a lot more to it than we knew.
Terry Kath. RIP. My folks brought the debut album home when I was 13. Blown away!
The original Chicago lineup was some of the greatest musical talent ever assembled. Lead guitarist Terry Kath was the heart and soul of the band. He tragically ended his own life in 1978. He was foolishly playing around with a gun he thought was unloaded, and shot and killed himself.
Even though the band continued, they were never the same after his passing. The original Chicago music is their best (Feelin' Stronger Everyday, Make Me Smile, Saturday in the Park, are just a few of their many hits)
You picked a good one..This is live.!!
Terry kath was just great ❤. And he guided his band mates in the right direction as you can see now
Classic AM and FM Radio play memories with this one - thanks guys!
How about some *"Bob Dylan - Rainy Day Women #12 & 35"*
When I was in military school was in a band. I was on the saxophone. We played this song at dances. Great memories.
I had a feeling Donna knew it. Funny, I clicked on to see if Lulu liked it. Figured Kathy would like it. It was a key song back in the day.
Lulu is busting a move listening to this!
A cassette tape! I highly approve. Retroculture is the only culture for me. I have boxes of them. I'm old enough to remember 8-tracks and even records, even 78's (Lulu: 78 what?). This was at Tanglewood in Lenox MA, summer home of the Boston Symphony. I live nearby and I've seen many concerts there. The acoustics are superb and many bands played there post-Woodstock. Jimi Hendrix was a huge fan of Chicago: "Their guitar player..he's better than me." Terry Kath. His solo here was one for the ages
love your channel, and a very cool song
Thanks
RIP Terry Kath. (Peter says "Terry Kath" at the end, alluding to the performance he just perpetrated on that poor Strat.)
Excellent video!
Kathy! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Love you guys! 💕
Thank you so much!
A true classic
Also see the version by the Russian group "Leonid & Friends" a Tribute band who try to play as close as possible to the original album version.
Hello Ladies, Imagine Jimi Hendrix naming Terry Kath as his favorite guitarist, That's says a lot .
P.s. Hendrix invented the Wah Wah pedal . Which made those sounds on guitar. 1970
That's Peter cetera singing on this track. He's done a lot of stuff since then and is still going today at 79 years old! Yes, that's how long he's been alive rocking!. Peace!
Peter's brother Kenny has a Chicago tribute band in Southern California! Kenny sings the songs that Peter sang.
Reactors don’t understand is that they are seeing possibly the best recorded guitar solo ever…
Yes, as the other gentleman has already noted, Cetera is, as is very often done by band members, giving credit and at the same time informing the many people who want to know, who the fantastically talented artist is that just left all their jaws on the ground. The late Terry Kath, as has been noted by the most expert industry people was a "Triple threat", outstanding, indeed, extraordinary not just in his virtuosity on the guitar, but also was top shelf in his singing, and a craftsman songwriter. Jimi Hendrix told saxophonist Walter Parazaider, "...your guitar player is better than me".
He didn't say ""take care", he said "Terry Kath"!
hey darlin lulu, he didn't say take care, he said Terry Kath!!!!!
Tanglewood venue in Lenox, MA
Chicago - Feeling Stronger Everyday
Nobody mentioned that Peters jaw was broke while singing this.He had a altercation at Dodgers game with some marines got his jaw broken. So you are seeing him sing with a wired jaw!!
Actually. His jaw was broken prior to recording this song but he did have to record this song with a wired jaw. In this video, his jaw is Not wired shut. The incident happened in 1969. This concert is 1970
I love watching the horn section watch Terry Kath when he goes intio a guitar solo. I know they have to watch him, to know when the solo is about to end, but they really seem to enjoy watching him play. Especially James Pankow (trombonist).
Lulu - you are a very special girl (in an absolute positive meaning)!
Love early Chicago....Terry Kath!
I saw them live twice.
Thanks so much for doing this one. I love the HORNS! but the whole tanglewood concert is amazing . Check out the rest of it.. it's gotta be among the best live performances in that era not only the performance but the sound capture .. it sounds so good! I'd we're talking old school. 1970! The other one that blows my mind is Black Sabbath in Paris in 1970 for live in the same year and with amazing sound quality and kick ass rock n roll .. cheers
Thanks for watching
I should have added RIP for Terry. And mentioned his deep vocals that contributed to their sound (Color My World is a personal favorite). After Terry's untimely demise Peter Cetera, the lead singer here, took over the direction of the band. The music was still technically good - they were all world class musicians after all - but it lacked the fire that Terry brought. BTW he sometimes used the alias "Take Care". Sorry :) For years that's what I thought they said at the end of the tune. Years I tell you
Hi y'all, just sub'd! I grew up on this music! I had a great idea, Lulu is such an inspiration with her love of music that I thought she's young enough to take guitar lessons!!! Who knows , in ten years she could be touring with one of the best bands around!!!
Give her some singing lessons too while your at it❤
Thanks for subbing!
Hendrix said he whish he had a guitarist 🎸 as good as Terry Kath in his band !!The ultimate compliment 😊!!
Lulu......lol !!! Good one girl!!!! Doing a great job ladies !!!
Thanks
Recommending I Remember You (live at Wembley) by Skid Row. Amazing vocals!
There is something about this song that makes me want to go for a drive down a long road in the forest or just sit and relax both at the same time.
Have loved this song from when it first hit the AM radio (very short version). Plus: Three pretty girls in a row. Hi, Donna!
Hello, thanks for watching.
Jimi Hendrix was once asked what it’s like being the best guitar player in the world? He responded, I don’t know. Go ask Terry Kath. Gone way too soon RIP TK
Saw them in concert in NJ at about the same time of this performance, possibly the same tour. They were that good or better.
You Gal's are reacting to some great tunes. I like the studio ver more but to each their own. This is early Chicago for sure, 2nd album. 1st with the new shortened name as they had to drop the 'Transist Authority' bit. Check out 'Questions 67 and 68' for more fire from Chicago.
I'd like to also suggest a great old Canadian band with a similer sound in some ways like a great horn section, and that's 'Lighthouse'. Check out 'One Fine Morning', 'Pretty Lady', 'Sunny Days' or 'Hats Off To The Stranger'. Cheers.
Wishing You Were Here
It’s a Chicago/Beach Boys collaboration
What is a Walkman?😎😎Lulu you are so old school! I'm sure Lula was digging the guitarist Terry Kath's hairdo!
Yes, Lulu has an old soul.
RIP Terry Kath...!!
RIP Terry Kath. Chicago was never the same after his death. Terry unfortunately put what he thought was an unloaded handgun to his head and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately the gun was loaded.
Lulu, one song I would love for you to react to, is Hocus-pocus by a group called Focus
Classic
