Glad you are still here with us.. Godspeed to a quick recovery..
Glad you're OK. I may have slightly singed my beard and the hair on the back of my hands a few times, but not as bad as you got it.
Love your content bud, keep up the great work.
Wow Bigclive commenting on your vid 😎. I am also really sorry about the accident. You are a heck of a tech so kinda hits different to me. Glad you’re all good now!
InstaBlaster...
Glad to see your OK!!!
Im glad you are okay
Glad you're okay
wow glade your ok
Glad your ok. Always a good idea to shut the gas 100% off when working on appliances like that. I have actually seen that exact gas valve fail open as well!
Good you are ok......safety glasses always
Wow, glad to hear you’re OK. Take care of yourself
Damn! Glad you are ok!
Sorry you got hurt and hope you get better soon.
Wow,glad you're OK.
Glad your good bud
Lucky, glad you're ok. Been knocked back by a couple furnaces years apart. Definately wakes you up.
wow! i hope you get better
Glad to see you are ok be safe
Scary stuff. Glad your ok.
Oh damn. That's bad. Hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery and healing. I've heard the odorant in propane can fade...maybe it did?
Holy smokes...man...thank God u are okay...thats incredible telling of what happened
Time for a Better filter on that well. Glad to see your better, the hair will grow bad, Keep the surfaces moisturized, it will leave you with a lighter scar than the skin around it.
Damn Same thing happen to my wife years ago only not quite as bad as you. Glad your ok.
Damn... That is true with experience and complacency. Happens even more often and with more serious results with firearms. "I've been shooting 25 years and I've never had a hangfire/ND/ double charge" but then it happens. When I saw the title I kept looking at that gas valve and thought about all the times I worked on a unit and didnt shut the gas off cause I wasnt working on the gas. Or didnt kill the power because I was working a burst pipe on a hydronic boiler. I'm sorry it happened but you putting this out will probably save several other guys from a freak accident like this so some good will come from your misfortune. I would have taken at least 3 days off and the kids I work with would have milked that for a month.
I totally agree with you. We get so comfortable in our day to day that we get very complacent. Proof that we always need to be aware of the dangers we work around.
Glad you’re ok man.
Ouch glad your ok.
Yeah, it happens. I hate lighting w/h pilots. Those piezo spark igniters can be finicky, but at least they have a flashback cover. This is a good shop talk on what can go wrong and why safety glasses, gloves and long sleeves (cotton only) may send you home with a story and not an injury. Glad it was superficial, but I’m sure it doesn’t feel like it.
Too many houses, needed a long time ago.. Whole House Sediment Filter installed & sometime a water conditioner unit, if the service guys do a hardness Grains water test... to fix that your working on today
I have never had luck with Bradford White in AZ the calcium did the same, the clients need to soften water here or replace all sorts of plumbing on a regular basis.
I'm glad you are alright after that! At least you could get out of the way quickly as you were probably crouching to light the pilot since the water heater was off the ground a bit instead of laying on the floor like you would have been with a more typical water heater installation. I love your videos! I'm American but I watch you from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia where I now live. Plumbing and heating in Australia is quite different from American plumbing and heating and yes many places in Australia such as Melbourne are cold enough during winter to need heating but not as cold as the northern US. If you watch Oliver the Drain Addict's great You tube channel you will see plenty of Aussie plumbing.
LP and propane is no joke. Glad to see your still here. Wishing you a fast recovery. Did the house burn with it?
Very lucky, we just started doing water heaters at our company. I’ll be showing my guys this video.
Where have you been i have missed your vids man im glad you are ok
OMG so glad you are okay people don't realize what you do is very dangerous work
Holy shit... Glad you're ok... I always have a fear of blowouts like that and I've been doing this for 15 years... Remember month 2 of hvac I was doing a "noise" call.... Little did I know it was delayed ignition on an old standing pilot furnace that had the heat exchangers collapse onto the burners... Well I learned the hard way on that one... I was taking the door off as the furnace turned on and BOOM... mfr blew up in my face.. After a few moments and realizing I was alright Customers says "yeah... That's the noise".... I learned that day...
Amazing how fast stuff can happen. We get so complacent in our jobs doing the same thing day in and day out. Glad your alright brother.
I thought CZcams police had cut you off. Glad to see you back.
Looks like the check valve in the well is shot!!!
that's exactly why I light them with a propane/map gas torch and my face/body nowhere near the piles of junk. after seeing a few go "whoosh" because propane pooled up down low.
I fear more shituations like this is gonna happen, first of al quality sucks these days, second R290 in all reefer quip. Gonna be fun💣💥
I was on 2 hot water tank calls similar to this today, one was on LP with a pilot even. IPI but still a stern reminder mate, both units were over twice the age of that one. thanks for posting..
When I was a kid my parents divorced and my Dad showed me how to light the pilots on the furnace and water heater in case they went out, since I was living with my Mom. One day the water heater pilot went out, so I went down with my Mom and went to light the pilot. Despite being shown how to light the pilot, I was still a little leery of putting my hand in with the match, so I grabbed a pair of pliers and used those to hold the match. Turned the gas valve to pilot, held the button down and stuck the match in with the pliers. Same problem you had...bad gas valve feeding full pressure to the burner and BOOM. Thankfully, I had used those pliers, but I still got flash burns to my hand. My Mom called our neighbor, who was an HVAC tech and he came over to check it. He was convinced that I didn't know what I was doing, so he shut off the water heater and explained how to do it the right way. Before he went to light it, I pleaded with him to listen before he lit it, so he did and used a long stick to light the pilot and quickly found out I was right and that the gas valve was bad. Ever since then, I am overly cautious if I have to light any pilots... :)
The entire time you were working on the tank, the gas valve was on.
A good lesson for us all. Thank you for uploading & may your healing be rapid.
I have seen the fireball once in 24 years, and lost only facial hair and my pride.
Gas valve pilot stuck open!
You deserve a raise Joe... you took one for Dependable.
Be safe
Glad your back on CZcams, I know its spring break time here in Michigan, hope you got some quality time with your family.
I really missed your videos. I work for a property manager and your videos have helped me a metric butt ton. Be well sir.
So glad your ok, just hope people watching this that it can happen to ANYBODY. I did that with a Mobil home furnace 25 yrs ago.
In line filter? Probably not.
been there, done that. my eyebrows got it. I did not have clothes burned.
was wondering what happened
Get the milwaukee pump!
Yikes!... I really like your videos and am thankful you are OK!
Jesus I’m glad you’re OK I will definitely be more careful with lighting wire heaters or any kind of pilot glad you’re OK God bless you
Sorry man, I was so happy to see you back I was saving the video for later and didn't realize you got hurt.
that looks like an old gas valve but you said it was only 2 years old I put in bradford whites all the time and they have at least on the ones I put in have vapor lock system and a sparker sorry that happened to you
Can think of better ways for a trim. Nice to see you are good and willing to share this experience. As we rush through our day trying to get to the next call, this is a reminder to slow down. Enjoy your content. 20 years in Indianapolis dealing with the same issues as yourself. Take care
now you know to wear your safety glasses
I missed watching your videos & was hoping you didn’t quit making them, hope you heal up quickly!
Glad to see you're ok! A very good lesson for us all. Always treat gas with respect! Never had it with waterheaters, but had two furnaces turn into flamethrower. I was fortunate enough to be standing to the side. Again, glad you're ok.
GOOD things take TIME. BAD things, happen, FAST!
Take care. Missed your videos. Steve in NC
Good video, wishing you a quick recovery
holy shit
My cousin lost two mobile homes to bad water heaters.
Well water?
Maybe its due to it being a Bradford White.
I'd guess two things, 1) well water or near dead end of city water. 2) the temp is set too low and not enough water usage to keep it clean.
mmm burnt hair smell (gag, gag, gag) I nearly got mine into cordless blower intake and grilling nearly got me a few times. burn off arm and hand hairs often lol.
I am very glad your alright buddy
so scary glad you're alive and hopefully a speedy recover
Missed ya brother! Glad you’re okay and good to have you back!
Welcome back, and damn, so glad your eyes are OK.
I glad you are ok
They have a hole in their well pipe. It's sucking sediment post pump into the line. Yikes!
Wow! Glad you are back, Glad you are well as it could have been worse.....Be Blessed
Glad you’re ok
Wow! I was wondering where you were, glad you’re ok and glad to see you again. Stay safe out there.
Good to hear that your ok . Haven't seen your videos lately thought you stopped doing them I have had the same thing happen to me but took the vent cap off landed in the neighbors yard . Again good to see your ok
The calcium formations remind me of Mammoth Cave.
Had a service boiler guy who liked to use his map torch light water heater pilots same thing Houston we have ignition main valve leaking pissing into combustion chamber .
metalman, can you give me the username of the service tech from Canada you were mentioning about? (I'm not aware of who it is you meant). Thx!
the same thing happened to me on a rheem water heater!!!! im sorry .
You were very lucky. It could of been a lot worse
I'm glad you were aware enough to close your eyes. That could of been so much worse! Glad you're OK!
Whoa! Glad you are OK!
Crazy shit could have been way worse, glad you're back working ok. Be safe out there
OMG
Is that where you've been
Look I have been burned and should have disfigured skin
My wife took vitamin E pills poked a hole in it and put that all over the burn areas
It was almost the next day we saw change and continued this until healed and I can see where I was burned but no one else can
Try it
It will help you heal up quicker
I am so sorry to hear this
Feel better quick
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Be safe
WOW! Glad you are ok and it wasn't too serious
Glad your ok
Been missing you an Mikey... Glad to see your both doing well.
All the way from Trinidad and Tobago here man. Be careful glad you're ok and get back to 100% soon man
Ooopsie.
Man yeah propane is dangerous it is under high pressure and we had it on our truck's when I worked delivery and we had to take training for it the had 2 truck that caught on fire different states but one was here in columbus ohio and that truck was not much left after the second one they removed it
Glad you're OK.
Glad your ok brother I fell a few weeks ago on a heat call down basement stairs messed up my back and hip again glad your ok missed your videos brother stay safe.
Sorry, had to laugh, got almost caught one with Propane. Small of gas, ok, arrived, boiler off as instructed (it was on when they phoned, but boss didn't have presence of mind to tell them to shut it off) by me.
Went out and gas was off at tank, turned it on and nothing, pressed the valve for the pilot and this thin column of flame shot past me and bounced off the wall.
I looked at it for a second, released the valve but it kept going! What caused it to ignite, no idea as I didn't spark it.
Replaced valve and pilot pipe, it has a tiny hole in it, funny it didn't cause any problem except smell of gas before, unless owner (who was not there to ask) had been playing around and made the hole bigger by moving the pilot pipe.
That jet of flame could have hit me right in the face, but for the fact with propane I always make sure I stand and my escape route is clear and I am on the side of escape.
Propane travels at very high speed compared to natural gas!
Anyway, you survived and the hair will grow back. Skin looks a bit unhappy, but it could have been a lot worse.
Propane stinks and can travel quicker then you can get out of the way.
Nasty stuff and needs a lot of respect.
Edit: Almost missed the important part. Glad you were not seriously hurt, but it was bad enough. Who can afford a day off and the pain that goes with the burns?
Be careful my friend ...
Very lucky. Count your blessings Joe. I’ve had the sight glass on a water heater blow out at me. Scary shit
Glad your ok bud
I believe we frequently don't ever know how our actions can effect others. I also believe that someone who will view your video will not have the same accident, only because you posted it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi glad to see you 😀 back
In 80's when I was an apprentice the guy I worked with had the same thing happen on LPG, he had similar burns.
I was just coming back in through the outside door from the truck when it happened so it didn't get me but sure scared the crap out of me, I was just a kid with no drivers licence yet but had to drive him to the hospital to get checked out as he was shaking so bad and couldn't see properly to drive.
Hope you heal up quick.
Sorry that happened. Glad it wasn't worse. Heal well.
God damn dude glad your okay
