Abulafia Gathering #4
-----------------------------------
This song was inspired by Afro-Brazilian religions Candomblé and Umbanda -- creeds that were persecuted by the Christian majority and, therefore, practiced underground for most of the 20th century (it is not uncommon for evangelical extremists to persecute these religions to this day.
A couple of years ago a girl was stoned for wearing one of the religion's garments on the street and temples where they are practiced are often vandalized).
Vinicius de Moraes, a white poet, diplomat, and composer from an affluent upbringing, converted to Candomblé late in life and helped spread the deeply philosophical and spiritual content of the songs created by former slaves." - Thank you Marcelo Zorzanelli for this knowledge.
This was our final gathering at Pluto Studios and though it's tough to say goodbye, we're great-full for every moment! 😇
Huge love and admiration for everyone who took part in the project, each gathering was a unique journey of people and sounds, thank you!
We'll see you soon at upcoming gatherings and shows around the 🌎! 🎉🎉🎉

Vinicius and Baden would be really, really happy today. Thank you so much for spreading this deeply spiritual song around the world. I think it's important to tell people that this song was inspired by Afro-Brazilian religions Candomblé and Umbanda -- creeds that were persecuted by the Christian majority and, therefore, practiced underground for most of the 20th century (it is not uncommon for evangelical extremists to persecute these religions to this day. A couple of years ago a girl was stoned for wearing one of the religion's garments on the street and temples where they are practiced are often vandalised). Vinicius de Moraes, a white poet, diplomat and composer from an affluent upbringing, converted to Candomblé late in life and helped spread the deeply philosophical and spiritual content of the songs created by former slaves. I can see how this resonates in the Jewish community.
What an amazing vocal solo by the backing vocal, I can't believe how well the sounds mingled; it brought me to the verge of tears. What is that melody? Is it religious? Is she saying something? I also would like to have a little background on why the singers can speak Brazilian Portuguese so well. Are they fluent or are they mimicking the sounds they heard on the record? Thank you so much and lots of love from Brazil. Let us build a better world by using the message of self-knowledge, respect of the other and connection to all kinds of soul love from the persecuted religion traditions of the world.
That's dope. Gonna add that to the video description.
thank you so much for the kind words! I'll ask the players all these questions and come with answers
Bravo!
Thank you so much Marcelo for your beautifully touching words and nice to meet you!
A friend gave me a cd of Baden Powell when I was a teenager and I haven’t stopped listening and exploring the music ever since. There is something in the musical language that makes me feel right at home and it fits perfectly when put together with our middle eastern roots and the cultural melting pot of our region. In Israel I have found that there is a deep passion for Brazilian culture and many of the children here grow up with Capoeira and songs about Orixas. All of the female vocalists in the video are a great example of this including the amazing Meytal Rahmin who sings the sensational solo. She grew up in Jerusalem on ancient jewish melodies and Brazilian music to a point where a new language is born. There are also cultural ties that run deeper, many Moroccan Jews live in Israel and the similarities between Gnawa ceremonial music and Afro Brazilian music is an incredible connection to explore, especially noticing the rhythm and taking note of the paths travelled by slaves to Brazil.
@@SaravaMusic Thanks for a great version of canto de Ossanha and some knowledge added #musicalconnections
Marcelo, thanks for that. What a wonderful information you share. Greetings from Mexico. I knew this song with the great Elis Regina
fino do fino
Me impressiona o português do homem.
Violonista nota 10. Vozes incríveis. Rítmica à altura. Parabéns! Gravem mais, por favor!
What a perfect portuguese! I am brazilian and this is one of the most beautiful version I have heard in my life! How did you guys can sing so perfectly in portuguese?
Yes! thank you Daniel :)
Feu is actually from Brazil
appreciate the love

Excelente cover el que han hecho!! Felicitaciones 👏
A song from my childhood. My mother listening always to her La Fusa mixtapes. It moves me in so many ways, this version is so beautiful
Vejo e revejo-o aqui no CZcams. Descobri o encanto de Vinicius neste ano de 2021.
So good! And so unexpected! One of the best versions of this song I've ever heard. Thank you from Brazil!

A melhor versão é a do Casuarina
@@maxpinna4369 Eu escrevo onde eu quiser, youtube é democratico, tendeu?
Os dois versões melhores . .
Just out of this world..
Obrigado pessoal
the people of Israel playing Baden ... how beautiful!
Too handsome!
Now ... ask any Brazilian in the average 18/30 years if you know Baden Powel, if you know his Afro-sambas ... if you have heard the masters of samba, choro and bossa nova ...
Unfortunately, Brazilian music (good Brazilian music) is not valued by Brazilians.
Thankfully, there are people in Israel who honor us with this.
I write this with deep sadness and with tears in my eyes.
Thank you guys
Êxtase!
Por mais ambientes como esse!!!!
Espetacular!!!!
Top 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Beautiful song ❤️
What's the connection between Brazil / Israel / Candomblé / Umbanda?
Just noticed those Israeli characters in the door behind the male singer and the Israeli names in the video description, just curious about how Israelis would speak and sing Portuguese so well.
Cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹
It’s an interesting connection :) Soul music is soul music and the stories and song travel between places with no limitations of borders or boundaries.. you can read more here in an interview with Dudi Shaul - arribacao.com.br/2020/06/29/uma-entrevista-com-dudi-shaul/

A pleasant and most surprising performance! Not just because the excelent procunciation in brazilian language but also the choice of music by the performers in Tel-Aviv - a 'classic' of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), composed by two of the most legendary musicians in Brazil. However, being brazilian myself, allow me to disagree with the information Marcelo Zorzanelli provided, regarding an "underground practice of alternative religions (This is how Candomblé and Umbanda have been always considered in my country) for most of the 20th century, due to "Christian majority persecution". In all my life in Brazil I've never heard a single word of distaste against alternative religions and less still outright persecution against followers of such. An interesting aspect of brazilian culture is exactly the tolerance towards religious practices as much as towards different nationalities (Brazil is a land of immigrants, except for its natural inhabitants for centuries: The indians.) It is natural for great part of christians (specially among catholics) to visit the church as much as spiritist centers of Candomblé and Umbanda. Brazilian culture is impregnated with great influence of indians and black people alike and aspects of both of them are admired and preserved specially in music.
