We were waiting for her at Liam's Cuan an Cheoil and here she is finally one of the two wonderful ambassadors of Irish music. The other is Julie Fowlis, Muireann's great friend and we hope for a next session with her too.
Think you mean Celtic or Gaelic, rather than Irish, Julie is from North Uist.
I stumbled upon this and what a wonderful find!!! Wheat a treat over an hour of beautiful music by two incredibly talented Irish musicians. Muireann is on my radio often and to have this opportunity to see her in this is a great gift. Go raibh míle maith agat. 🙏

Very true. It's also true that in their meetings with various musicians Julie and Muireann sang in every language of the so-called Celtic area: Irish, Scottish, Galician, Breton. However, it is an honor to be corrected by the great Lillis 'O Laoire, whose recent session with Liam and Brian it is an important event to learn about the ancient Irish vocal tradition.

I wondered why, despite knowing that Fowlis comes from the Hebrides, I considered her an Irish singer. I think it depends on the fact that we foreigners tend to generally consider the whole world of Celtic music as if it dates back to the Irish tradition, which would be a sort of land of origin or primus inter pares from the point of view of tradition, without taking anything away from the other musical cultures.
Some Scottish singers and musicians very much like the connection to Ireland, but others feel somewhat overwhelmed by the automatic linkage, I think, and prefer to assert their own distinctive tradition.
Surely. This has to do with ethnic identity and also national pride, which in your area is very strong for historical and socio-cultural reasons. I think that the musical field itself manages to unite what divides elsewhere, while respecting different traditions and cultures. It is also true that the desire to find common roots and opportunities for exchanges, together with a certain curiosity and desire to get involved has driven several musicians, specifically from the Celtic area (I am thinking for example of the Chieftains, Planxty and therefore Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Paul Brady, Liam 'O Maonlai himself, Muireann Ni Amhlaoibh and Julie Fowlis and many others) to deal with Balkan, African and oriental music. This without taking anything away from original and particular styles such as Sean nos, Lilting and Puirt-a-beul from the Irish or Scottish area. I once happened to listen to some Azerbaijani musicians who played the clarinet surprisingly in the same way as the farmers of the mountains in southern Italy, so distant and yet similar, perhaps due to exchanges between different cultures through trade and ancient communication routes. .@@lillisolaoire6301
