The argument that govt jobs get half the salary received by pvt jobs is totally flawed.Only the white collar in pvt gets high salary.Entry level salary in pvt jobs is very low as compared to govt jobs.

I don't understand why we want to generalize such a big job marked into two categories.
One must divide it as: (Descending order)
    1. Higher level government jobs(IAS, IPS, Defence officers, Railways, ITO and other central government jobs)-------> BEST
    2. Higher level private jobs(Higher management jobs, Finance, HR, decision makers, CEO, CFO, CXO's etc)
    3. Middle level private jobs(Engineers, Technical services)
    4. Middle level government jobs(Bankers, LIC, All government middle level jobs in Railways, Metro, PSU's)
    5. Lower level government jobs(Clerical jobs)
6 Lower level private jobs(Call centers, BPO, Customer service, Support employees)
When a government employee talks about private jobs he mentions only about the 6th category, yes the lower level private jobs are worst and it is better to work in lowest government job than these jobs but I have seen so many people who grow from lower to middle level private jobs in 2 to 3 years time.
In government jobs, lower to middle level takes decades and sometimes a complete career.
And yes, as far as respect is concerned, it is above money/finances, the two girls were really narrow minded in this discussion, just making career choices on the basis of money. Money would come as a byproduct if one is doing what one wants and if one is able to see a future in it.

Bhishma khanna , first of all mentioning more about government jobs is, you don't have to face banality since you're always given some or the other promotion.
Respect, prestige, these are equivalently more crucial terms which cloak a sole purpose of choosing a government job over corporate sector, that is, security......
Let me tell u the perks....
You'll be getting slack of getting your every bill payed by government, if you suffer some medical complication. You always get much more paid, govt. Pays almost all your child's school formalities, get your child admitted in a school, bonus awaits for you, get your child's bone fractured, again a bonus awaits you......
Although none of these factors determine your success, we have numerous opportunities....

First of all, there are pros and cons to both sectors. By the way remember, everyone cant gets govt job, that does not mean that everyone in the private sector chose it because they cant crack govt job exams. Everyone got their own preference.
    Govt Job: CONS
1)Huge competition and reservations make it even worst for general category guys.
    2) lesser salary compared to what the same amount of hard work can fetch you in private industry.
    3) Limited travel and exposure to other fields.
    4) Even though you get regular income some jobs might be so boring.
    5) Slow growth rate due to huge competition
    PROS:
    1)Job security
    2) Standard income
    3) Retirement benefits like pension, gratuity (this mostly won't happen in private sectors as people change allot)
    4) Long leaves
    Private Jobs: CONS
1)Not as much competition as govt jobs but still there is a lot of competition due to limited jobs.
    2) Job insecurity due to the global market dependency
    3) Long working hours
    4)Too much work pressure sometimes.
    5) No retirement benefits, unless you stay long enough which don't happen in many cases.
    PRO's
    1) Your growth depends on your talent
    2) Ample opportunities to travel if you are in the right place and position
    3) You can change the company, location whenever you want.
    4) You can negotiate on the salary part and get a high salary if you prove your worth.
    5) Exposure to different people and locations and fields.
    6) Faster growth rate.

It's painful to see people fighting over Govt vs Private.
Everything in world is interdependent. Entrepreneurs and Businessmen run companies, employees of these companies do research, develop technology and make lives of people easier. Government Employees, from IAS to Clerks serve Millions of people everyday.
I feel it really depends on an individual. A person who's concern is job security and wants an easier life will choose govt job. A person who's likes R&D, Finance, Project Execution, Management would prefer private job.
I think India needs innovators right now, there are enough applicants for SSC or UPSC exams but not enough people willing to take risks and innovate.
There is a fundamental difference between Americans and Indians, generally Indians prefer working for someone. This is what sets Americans apart and usually they come up with great ideas and establish companies which run the world. The platform on which you're reading this comment and watching this video was made possible by three entrepreneurs.

What I can conclude is it is all about inner satisfaction. Humans have the tendency of mood swings. And we never feel satisfied till the end.

'Don't have to work very hard' depends on the department you are working for if you are working in police or law enforcement agencies then it is not easy to control crimes like drug control, rape, terrorism etc. There is always the red target behind you shirt because you are wearing uniform and anyone can kill you but then again it has it's own benefits you have security of your own you have a gun that you can use anytime when you or your family is in danger so it's balanced. It is enjoyable if your city or area you're working in has low crime rates. But the transfer from one corner to another is a headache.

Ofcourse salary matters a lot because finally it's money by which we can buy all the comforts of life. Every 10 years salary increases by huge amount in India in government job because government implement a new pay commission. That's the fact that a private job sucks u as much as u have and throws you like an empty can but in a government job....work load is evenly distributed throughout the entire life so you can also make some quality time with your family and relatives. Even i am working in Big MNC and i have reputed profile and Salary but every year i am receiving 3 to 6 percent hike in salary what do you think market rate is also increasing like this.Answer me.
I am not greedy about salary i have choosen Private sector because i love to work in exciting environment but where is exciting Salary at all our family is depends on our income.
What is Job Security in Private Sector provided by Government of India.
Do you think only IIT/IIM/NIT having skill student or extraordinary manpower if yes than all of the above question is not important but if not than why we do not have any GOD FATHER in private sector.

At Last My question is why Divided all things in Private and Government sector if we are paying same tax/vat/bill,otherwise set separate rule for private and government sector.
Why many of the student from Private colleges are without job but IIT/IIM student having 3 to 4 job offer.
Note: I am not opposing IIT/IIM or Government sector I just need if Our government providing extra donation and care to this college than what is use of more than 500 private college(every state).
Yes we are working in private Company because of my own choice but we have caliber to bit any Government exam within year or two year but I hate Government Sector.
If i am wrong than analyse Growth Graph of indian economic than you can find who are more supportive for government.
My question is suppose we are working and supporting any client of USA than client provided salary is 10 time more than our indian salary. Why and who are taking care of this.
Suppose if i am working in xyz and my Client is USA based than they providing us more than 40 lakh as per ther policy than why we are receiving 5 Lakh per year.It means where is reaming 35 Lakh of my hard work.
In Private Sector why we do not have any government provided Rule set like do not disturb employee after job hours or week off.
I came after job and writing this letter because i am thinking about all of the person not only me but it will be waste if no one reply or thinking about this.
