    This specific ship originated in the Baltic and this specific ship was the largest cruise ferry in the world... a few months in 1989 just manage to be finished before the (then) gigantic Serenade that is way bigger than this ship and also sort of the original modern cruise ship. (despite not being a cruise ship.. )
    Its worth saying that most large cruise ships are built for the Baltic line then typically sold to other lines around the world. The reason for that is that Between Sweden and Finland/Estonia is the micro nation of Åland. Åland is a low tax zone. But both Finland as well as Sweden is high tax. This make the unique situation where people travle in both direction to get into the tax free zone. Hence this route is super profitable to have walk on passengers, and its the reason why they build so many cruise ferries there.
    To get this in perspective, Viking-line that this ship originally came from currently have 5 ships in service. But there is currently 12+1 ship in service that originated as viking-line ships. The same is also true for Silja-line and Talink that also operate pretty much the same routes.
    Talink also have the worlds largest speed ferry that despite being a high speed ferry are considerably larger than MS pearl Seaways.

    I was so certain I had seen this video before, but thought I was crazy when I couldn't find it on your channel. Good to see it back :)
    The Pearl is okay, but it's certainly not as great as the Kiel ferry with Color Line.

    This DFDS route has long been Oslo-Copenhagen. A long time ago they also made a stop in Helsingborg. Another company (Stena?) used to run Oslo-Frederikshavn (Jutland, Denmark)leaving from the same terminal you did. During COVID, or just before, the other company dropped the route to Frederikshavn and DFDS jumped on the opportunity to add that port to this route.

      "A long time ago"
      I'm probobly getting old, but to me it seams that was recent. Traveling there multiple times.

      Yes Stena used to have the route to northern Denmark. I honestly don't know if it's worth making an extra stop over there, it increases the travel time a lot, even though it's still a great overnight connection on a route where there's no sleeper train.

    If memory serves this is the line that used to operate the no-longer extant 72 hour visa free cruise to St. Petersburg. I had hoped to catch that from Helsinki so as to visit the Hermitage. Unfortunately a non-existent imaginary infectious disease put paid to that and for the foreseeable future

    The weird thing on the cabin door is a magnetic door holder to keep the door fully open.

      Aahhhh I haven't thought about that actually. Makes a lot of sense though.

      Norreport is just at Old Town. Central Station (Hovedbangaarden) is beyond.

    Have you gone from Amsterdam to Newcastle yet I'm interested in that crossing because I live in Antwerp and my family near Newcastle Genevieve Antwerp

      It is on my list and I'll take that connection definitely for a trip report soon but it's soon busy recently and I still have some other videos coming up. I would say, just stay tuned on this channel. Probably I'll make a video on that route soon as well.

    what time did you arrive back to Copenhagen?

    • @Trainviking
      @Trainviking  Před 6 měsíci

      I don't know the exact time anymore but I think it was around 10:00. With the extra stop in the North of Denmark, this connection is a bit less interesting compared to take the train (especially because there are way more trains now between Oslo and Goteborg).
