    In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks... Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy. And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father...
    I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day…
    Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home.
    We all want more time to spend with the people we love or doing the things we love. That’s why I’m here to help!
    Once you read my New Rules of Marksmanship you will learn how you can stay at home, and save time and money while you improve your shooting! I promise this works… try it now: chrissajnog.com/newrules/ snip.ly/vqtwv4

    I learned long ago that visualization is a great training tool. Visualize your actions as vividly as possible and with as much detail as you can. Your mind will actually accept visualization as practice.

    Great video and very informative . I am an old guy and I really appreciate the way you break all this stuff down step by step. You can't retain anything unless you practice each step correctly over and over and in order. It always comes down to the basics to give us that solid foundation. I am new to shooting and I want to do it the right way. Glad I found your video. I will watch all that I can .

    yes "VISUALIZATION"!!! great book LESSONS FROM THE EDGE talks about habits of top athletes and olympians, one being visualizing themselves successfully performing whatever skill/sport they do, ie skiing a racecourse, climbing a rock route, etc for practice. this is a positive experience, a successful experience, and builds those neural pathways. i use this in the medical field, visualizing high-risk but low-volume lifesaving procedures, and when it comes time to throw down, i have been very successful and efficient. Thankyou for the great videos, i just ordered your book.

    Hi Chriss. For your "Why is it so Hard for Experienced Shooters to Improve?" sound problem, look for the audio channels in your video editor, you want only left and right audio channels before senting it to tube. ALSO MAKE SURE that audio/voice is included (with equal strength) in both left and right audio channels, since mobile devices are mono and possibly can play just the one channel thats blank. Cheers.
    p.s.
    Not sure if its intentional but comments are disabled on your last two videos.

    This really is good info. I find myself consistently watching these safety/dry fire videos because I've gotten so complacent with emptying my gun, checking it, and dry firing it for a few minutes before I go to bed each night. I've realized that, while I consider myself responsible enough to always check and treat my gun as if it's loaded before my finger goes near that trigger, it just seems that one day I'm going to have the regretful ND. Great video. I'm going to start using all these tips.

    Best advice (IMHO) is Chris' video idea @ 4:30+. That works with everything... public speaking, golf swing, etc. If you are practicing a skill on your own and it feels like you're doing it right, but you're not, you won't get any better. Run through some practice then watch the video and compare what you did to the fundamentals you've been taught. If you're new to the skill, it's likely you will say, "I had no idea I was doing THAT!"
    Make corrections. Repeat. In no time you'll be well on your way to perfecting that skill.
    Excellent advice!

So I started reading through these comments and the next one I saw, was the guy that says you talk too much. wants to see more stuff. I think that's the guy that will practice draw and shoot draw and shoot. till he thinks he's got a perfect. It's what you say that's important. I could totally visualize what you mean. I've been shooting a long time, handguns and rifles I own many. it's always the guys that know everything that doesn't really know too much huh, what do you think?... However, after watching video after video, I typically come away feeling the title subject matter of the video is not actually contained in the video and that I didn't learn anything. Almost as though he talked in a big circle rather than a progression and building to a point. Maybe I'm missing it.

    • @PDMCHEZITSmsta
      @PDMCHEZITSmsta Před 7 lety +1

      I think the concept he's getting at is to prepare yourself for practice. whether its music or breathing any form really but the point is to clear your mind so that when practicing you build stronger and more efficient neural pathways. clear your head focus on the task at hand not by over thinking it but instead by bringing all your attention onto the actions and muscular procedures your performing, this should produce superior muscle memory, thats what you need for consistent predictable action. as opposed to throwing yourself into training without preparation.

      Look again at the 4:00 mark. He's talking about what he's "meditating" about: Visualize going through the process of dry firing: Relaxing, How you're going to SMOOTHLY clear the garment, grip the gun, draw it, point it, line up the sights, squeeze the trigger, etc.. So, in other words, visualization.

    I got a replica Airsoft C02 metal pistol, Weight and feel, is just like the matched pistol with a loaded mag. Trigger Break/reset is about the same (At least for S&W semi's). The trigger pull on the replica is really heavy about 10 to 12 lbs.. Builds up the small finger muscles and you really have to focus on control. You don't have charge it or use C02, so you can practice rapid trigger pull. Once you master the heavy trigger, the real thing is easy.
    I've tried a full laserlyte setup at my local range. It is really good, but expensive and I find Airsoft to be more realistic and funner. It's cheap, I paid $54 for the pistol. Licensed S&W MP40 C02, non-blow pistol. $60 for C02/BB's about 15,000 shots. About another $50 to setup a indoor Airsoft range. At normal pistol range, Airsoft is really accurate, though C02 can be a little loud.
    After a few weeks I seen some serious results. Especially with my mechanics, grip and trigger control. Replica fits my holster perfectly, so It's great for draw and fire experiences. I think its good to work everything out with plastic BB's then real builets. You don't want to be that youtube guy that's shoots themselves in the leg.

    hey Chris i have a question in the manual for my pistol which is a Taurus pt111 g2 9mm it says not to dry fire the gun , I also heard people say not to dry fire guns because it would damage the firing pin is that true: will it damage your gun ? thanks for the book and videos!!!!!

      Taurus Pt111 G2 There are so called "snap caps", usually plastic bullets with spring-loaded or rubber primer pads that provide resistance to the firing pin.
      www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/general-gunsmith-tools/cartridge-dummies/deluxe-snap-cap-prod247.aspx
      There are also all-plastic monlithic dummy rounds, but i dont know if theyre good at cushioning the firing pin, i quess when the permanent hole forms in the back they no longer protect the firing pin. Note that most modern firearms are not negatively affected by dry firing.

      +Taurus Pt111 G2 I had the same question. I f you're talking about the pistol that bears you screen name, I
      I bought the same one and noticed the same thing. However, in looking at the Taurus website, on the FAQ screen, it says you can dry fire your pistol unless it's a .22, which I believe has rimfire ammo instead of center fire ammo. So I did an online chat with customer service and was told that they don't recommend dry firing. They didn't say not to, but they recommend using snap caps for dry practice.

      Steve Joyce thanks for the information I've seen they're starting to make some pretty decent holsters for in the waistband from alien gear. Now if we can just get someone to make some good fiber optics or night sights

      +Taurus Pt111 G2 Thanks for that info because I'm starting to look for holsters myself. Best of luck, and let me know if I can help with anything else!

    Do I need snap caps to dry fire striker guns?

    • @fin_jan
      @fin_jan Před 5 lety

      No. Striker will be fine.
      I use snap caps to make sure I get a full rack on the slide when doing Israeli draw. And to make sure I clear the gun at the end, like I would in IDPA. But not to protect the striker.

    Where's the "firing" part?

  • @azpapa9347
    @azpapa9347 Před 2 lety

    Whenever I'm dry fire practicing at home, I unload my weapon and place the rounds across the room, and practice shooting at those rounds.
    That way I CAN'T make that mistake.

    Yep safety first, so why is your plastic storage box pushed against your FAU vent? Yes its a double wall vent but still should be 1 inch clearance! And nothing that contains fumes or gunpowder sitting on the platform unless you have a fireproof gun safe when your house burns down!

    • @tommeeker9089
      @tommeeker9089 Před 7 lety +2

      No. Dry firing a centerfire pistol or long gun will not hurt anything. Dont dry fire a rimfire firearm though. That can do damage.

    IMo, if folks are SO absent mindedly loading their gun without being conscious of it ( or needs to check and recheck, to MAKE SURE it didn't "load itself"), needs to sell it and get a slingshot.

      Unfortunately, the facts show that we all lose focus at times. I've only been shooting 25+ years and check my gun every time.

    Is there benefit to dry fire..., yes! , but why waste time training with something that gives you NO feed back. Practice with airsoft or pellet guns, that is what give you ever thing you are talking about plus instant feed back.
